His own supporters are quicker to believe his lies than when he slips up and occasionally says something true. They are quicker to post or re-tweet a false outrageous story than they are to do that with a true, actual feel-good story. A study of the spread of fake news proved this with a story about trump using his own plane and resources to help some sick kid get medical treatment. His rubes -- one would think -- would have thoroughly blanketed the internet with that story but did not, while all the while retweeting side-by-side pictures of his inaugural address compared to Obama's and saying trump's had twice as many people attending.

Doesn’t that kind of miss the point of understanding them? We have Donald trump as president because of lack of understanding. We don’t want to repeat those mistakes. That mentality mistakes ‘understanding’ with ‘agreement’.

Understanding them is a waste of time. If the Clinton campaign had understood them it would have changed nothing in 2016.

No it doesnt, we dont need to understand them to beat them. Any time wasted trying to understand them is time taken away from re-engaging the Dems/Liberals who didnt vote. The Trump voters dont hold the key to the election (no matter how much some lame *** talking heads on cable news pretend they do) Dem turnout does. Unless you think a statistically significant portion of the Dem voters who didnt go for Clinton went for Trump (and never go full Rover) it is a waste of time. It is no different thn Hillary skipping going to Wisconsin to try and win Arizona...there is no point and only serves to actually hurt you.

This isnt a sociological study this is an election. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to know why many voted for Trump and even if we learned new information why it wouldnt change anything. Trump voters arent going to flip just cause the Dems understand them.

It's not the Pro-Trump that made the difference in the last election. It was the Anti-Hillary. Small, but significant difference there. THOSE are the people that need to be listened to, and understood (even if there still ends up being disagreement).

To break it down, there were some people who weren't going to vote for Hillary, no matter what. They might not have liked voting for Trump (or 3rd party, etc etc), but they did anyway. IMO, that's the audience that needs to be heard.

Brent is right. It’s not the pro-Trump voters. It was the anti-Hilary voters. Well said.

Yeah, those who thought to themselves, "F it, let's see what Trump can do" are clearly a bunch of people who can be persuaded by rational thoughts :rolleyes:

Anti-Hillary was baked in. They knew it was baked in. It was the people who decided to stay home and the people that were swayed by the emails. Neither of them were Trump supporters, nor were they Anti-Hillary.

Those are also the same people that were never going to vote for a black man, or a "socialist".

It's not worth trying to chip away at a few hundred thousand out of the 62 million willing to change their mind as opposed to finding the 4 million 2008 Obama votes that disappeared between 2008 and 2016.

What if, by chance, they didn't like her policies, or didn't want the "same old political machine?" You realize that is a valid position to have had...

Folks like Scooby who just shun anyone who wasn't lock and step with Hillary are just as bad as the Trumpers. They don't listen to anyone who disagrees with them.

Edit: it's not always about color or gender, you know.
