And yet you shun ANYONE who wasn't purely behind Hillary. Won't even listen to their concerns, even if they didn't vote for Trump. I learn. If you can't learn then don't vote.

I remember when I was a kid how angry my grandfather was because he had voted for Reagan. He was one of those "Reagan Democrats" they always talked about. I finally figured out why he was angry. He had been duped. He never forgave himself for that vote. But, what he did do was he taught his grandson a very valuable lesson.

The inability to learn from history in this country is at an all time high. And the people who are too dumb to comprehend that are not worth my time or effort or anyone else's.

And just to clear something up, I’m not talking about the deplorables. They are generally irredeemable.

This describes about 99.5% of people who voted for trump, and nowadays just about any other republican.

Doesn’t that kind of miss the point of understanding them? We have Donald trump as president because of lack of understanding. We don’t want to repeat those mistakes. That mentality mistakes ‘understanding’ with ‘agreement’.

We don't have trump because of a lack of understanding, we have trump because there are 60+ million awful, horrible people in this country. Very few people who voted for trump are people who just voted because it was a middle finger to the political establishment. They voted for trump because they wanted a race baiting "tough guy" in the White House.

It is dangerous to ignore just how bad that problem is in this country. trump's election was not some sort of an accident. It revealed to me what the republican voter REALLY wants.

Now in the end, his win was also the result of too many people staying home because they believed that there was no way there are enough deplorable voters to elect someone like trump. But that isn't true. In fact my guess is among the vast majority of the republican party voters, you could have a true blue, dyed in the wool, sheet wearing member of the KKK running for president, and he'd get the same 60+ million votes all republican presidential candidates seem to get.

Enough thinking people getting off their as sses and voting in 2018 and 2020 won't be some sort of a panacea. The deplorables will still number in the 10s of millions. But at least they won't control quite so many levers of governmental power.

2 elections people. If we don't get them right trump won't just be our worst president. He'll be our last.

The moderate republican is barely a token. The republican party does not want compromise or cooperation and it does not care if we are united or divided. More so than at any point since the republican party became associated with "conservatism" trump is the republican party.

My dad is a Republican. He soured on Trump, but he's trapped in "but her emails." People like my dad would vote for Lucifer himself over any Democrat...

It's simple really. I was born with the gifts of sight and hearing, and born to parents who taught me to read and to think critically. It wasn't the votes of those 60 million, many which I had hoped were cast by people who wanted change, were tired of political gridlock, or were perhaps just to naive or ill educated or any of 100 other reasons for them to vote like that. What leads me to form my opinion is that over and over and over and over again, in poll after poll after poll, the vast majority of people who voted for trump are still supportive of him and would vote for him again tomorrow, given that opportunity. So you try to "understand the condition." It isn't worth my time. I'd rather spend my time trying to elect people who are worthy of holding office. If the polls start to reflect a change in their thinking, or if trump gets only 20,000,000 votes the next time, I'll be sure to come back here and say I was wrong about most of them.

Who is it then Brent? Just askin'. Don't say the Democrats, because there is faaaaaar more diversity in their party on a bad day than there is in trump's on its best day. It is a myth, perpetuated by decades of the near monopoly of conservatives on talk radio and over 20 years of FAUX News, that democrats don't seek compromise. One side here is overwhelmingly responsible for the political problems in America. I used to just naturally believe it was a matter of "both sides are bad..." too. But the evidence since Clinton was elected and the absolute totality of opposition for opposition's sake since Obama was elected that the republican party is to blame has been documented far and wide. Read the book by Ornstein and Mann "Its Even Worse Than It Looks." It came out 6 years ago. Read it and tell me they are not correct. And the obstruction and unwillingness to cooperate is even worse now than it was in 2012.

Yes, some Dems, and some Libertarians, and some (insert fringe party). Scooby is demonstrating it currently, in response to my post about the Anti-Hillary/not Pro-Trump people. He, and others of his thinking, are shutting out people who don't think like they do. No exceptions.

Again, make no mistake, Republicans are the majority of this extremism, but they are far from alone in thinking that way.

The "because it's not trump" may have some play in the 2020 presidential primary, but once we're on to the general election, the same 62,000,000 who voted for trump in 2016 will vote for him again (minus the ones who died and add in the ones who turned 18). We're already seeing candidates trying to prove they are most in step with trump in a number of red states to attract republican voters. In Indiana it is comical to see which of the three front runners for the senate nomination can sound most like they are the one with trump's johnson firmly shoved down their throat.

Exactly. So why bother with them? Brent wants people to waste their time just like Hillary did. Never again. Republicans are not worth talking to. Romney and Trump got the same number of votes and in 2020 they'll get the same again. They don't cross for Democrats. God, Gays, and Guns. You will never convince them otherwise so don't bother.
