WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump acknowledged Thursday he repaid his personal lawyer for hush money given to porn actress Stormy Daniels after claiming previously he didn't know about the payments. But the money, paid just before the 2016 election to stifle her claims of an affair, "had nothing to do with the campaign," the president tweeted.

Trump said his attorney Michael Cohen received a monthly retainer, which he used to pay the actress to sign an agreement not to talk about her allegations and thus "stop the false and extortionist accusations made by her about an affair."

Former U.S. attorney Joyce Vance caught Rachel Maddow by surprise with this insight last night about what it means that Robert Mueller suggested he might subpoena Donald Trump.

"Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general who is in charge and who oversees this investigation, would have had to authorize the use of a subpoena against the president of the United States. And that tells you that this evidence has been carefully reviewed.

This is not a step that they would have taken lightly. They would have considered whether the evidence was available from other sources, whether it was critical to the investigation. They would have considered privilege issues. And then they would have made a very serious decision that ultimately they were entitled to subpoena the president if he declined to voluntary testify."

Avenatti only has to rope a dope (so to speak) him. Dump does all the heavy lifting himself.

That dumbf-ck is going to perjure himself while addressing charges relating to treason. This is what happens when a C student tries to fake it with the A students for too long.

Like I mentioned below. I think they're worried about Cohen turning on Trump. Trump is sending signals through the Avenatti admissions that he's got his back on the Mueller stuff. Eventually the knots they are tying will be so tight they won't be able to unravel it and Trump will be doomed.

And yet, the stuff he's now admitting to re: Stormy leads right back to Mueller. The campaign finance violations, the bank fraud, the obstruction.

It's a very complicated game to play, even for Mueller's room full of Harvard Constitutional Lawyers.

Dump has the gang who couldn't shoot straight.

I think they're just tripping over their own d-cks. There's no Game Plan. There isn't even a coaching staff. There's only audibles on every play, the QB is drunk, and his blockers are cutting deals with the other team as play continues.

How much of it is an incompetent person, or a person who's become completely flummoxed by listening to Trump prattle on in his stream of conscious manner? From what I've read, if you're brought into an active conversation with the man, it's a total whirlwind of circular logic and dismissal of all facts. I'm no great Giuliani fan, but I have to think for him to have made it as far as he did as an attorney, he must have been at least somewhat competent. What he did there is on the level of Lionel Hutz ("Oh, they forgot the comma again. 'No, money down!'").
