In many cases, yes.
Although I'm happy to let the R states sink even deeper into hell with their terrible education and healthcare. Blue states should build a wall to keep them out

When it comes to education, I trust Bismarck more than Washington. And that's not saying much lately on the topic of education.

It would make today's vote rather moot.

But should we not have some kind of national standards for education? Or should we just let the deep red states totally obliterate education on their own- their pattern is to not care about kids, not care about teachers (and their truly evil unions), but care about making money. Some even are ok with giving money to religions.

Especially for poor families.

It sounds good in theory but I'm just not sold they make much difference. People are what they are for the most part. The only thing that would concern me is that kids with special needs might not get as good of treatment, but there are other avenues that can be addressed.

No worries, I'm sure Hillary + a Dem senate would have done the same thing, right? That's why with one of my votes I went 3rd party and with my second registration in a different state I didn't bother to vote. ;)

Well to be fair, Bismarck was around 100 years later than Washington, so his views are bound to seem more modern. While Bismarck tried to limit the clerical influence on teaching, Washington would have likely opposed such a move, but then Washington was more limited to the sources of education present in his time, which in a pre-industrial nation would by definition lend itself to schools with a more religious character.

Last time I checked, Illinois, New York and California were all in the bottom half of the country in standardized test scores.

You also ignore the fact that standardized testing only measures proficiency instead of growth.

So you think the difference between kids coming from poor school systems and rich systems are just the kids??

Wow.

Devoss has done wonders taking the poor Detroit school district and making it worse. Doing that on a national level?

The more I think about it, I'm more relieved that we don't have kids.

Don't have to explain to them how education is going to take a dump. Don't have to explain why the environment is so horrible. Don't have to explain why there are so many beggars asking for stuff.

Or how we became best buds with Russia.

A whole lot of things.

But I will be rolling in our lower taxes.

It's a very cold-hearted thing to say, and I feel bad saying it, but that was my experience coming from a very poor district. I think some sort of alternate education would have helped the kids more than anything else.
