POTUS 45.29: Eggs and Tweet Storms for Breakfast

Re: POTUS 45.29: Eggs and Tweet Storms for Breakfast

The Great Reversal came with Carter. Prior to that we governed as a traditional center-left party. The combination of the oil shock, Carter's political ineptitude, and the rise of the Reagan Cult weakened the Democratic party enough that the corporatists captured it. Since then we have never run a robust leftist economic message and in consequence we've turned off a third of the country. We now run by slicing and dicing the center and the paleolibertarians (social left / economic right) with the GOP, while a third of the country goes entirely unrepresented.

In a perfect world Rover would be a Republican. You would still be unhappy.

They've done it through incrementalism. We refuse to do the same. We want it all now or we don't want it. That's why, until that changes, if it does, we will always lose.

No we've been doing incrementalism for 16 years under Obama and Clinton and it got so bad that people eventually said F it and voted for fascism.

Re: POTUS 45.29: Eggs and Tweet Storms for Breakfast

Just saw on Twitter that someone referred to Trump as Tweety Amin. Ha!!

I have to chuckle a bit, since in the Gun Thread you stated that you would not concede any of your suggested changes to the gun laws, even if conceding one or two of those suggestions (at least for the time being) would help improve the chances of the other suggestions getting passed into law.

I've conceded plenty on the gun issue. My plan posted for you had no bans of any weapons. That's not anywhere near what I prefer. Also, everything I listed is allowed under the Heller decision which was authored by Scalia.

Pass half of what you want now, and after a year or three, get the other half done. Who knows? Maybe after that the rest of what you want can happen. No snark here, btw. Being sincere. :)

Yes, that's how Democrats would have to accomplish it. But, they won't. They'll go all or nothing and lose in the end.

Why would he run on how great things are at the moment? That doesn't make sense at all. It was a message of hope for the future of where he wanted to go. Obama did pretty much the same thing with hope and change, didn't he?

If things are pretty good, and you run a campaign saying, Elect me, and you get 8 more years of this", why wouldn't you?

Re: POTUS 45.29: Eggs and Tweet Storms for Breakfast

Oh he would have definitely charged into that school even without a gun:

"I was at Mar-a-Lago and we had this incredible ball, the Red Cross Ball, in Palm Beach, Florida.

And we had the Marines. And the Marines were there, and it was terrible because all these rich people, they're there to support the Marines, but they're really there to get their picture in the Palm Beach Post.

So, you have all these really rich people, and a man, about 80 years old - very wealthy man, a lot of people didn't like him - he fell off the stage.

So what happens is, this guy falls off right on his face, hits his head, and I thought he died.

And you know what I did? I said, 'Oh my God, that's disgusting,' and I turned away.

I couldn't, you know, he was right in front of me and I turned away. I didn't want to touch him. He's bleeding all over the place, I felt terrible.

You know, beautiful marble floor, didn't look like it. It changed colour. Became very red.

And you have this poor guy, 80 years old, laying on the floor unconscious, and all the rich people are turning away

What happens is, these 10 Marines from the back of the room.

They come running forward, they grab him, they put the blood all over the place—it's all over their uniforms—they're taking it, they're swiping [it], they ran him out, they created a stretcher.

They call it a human stretcher, where they put their arms out with, like, five guys on each side.

I was saying, 'Get that blood cleaned up! It's disgusting!' The next day, I forgot to call [the man] to say he's OK.

It's just not my thing."

Yeah, like how they went gung go for single payer.

New year, new paradigm. Things changed this past election cycle. Dems have completely rejected incrementalism as a tactic. Obama and Hillary tried to keep them on track. They said no.

Mike Dukakis and Walter Mondale weren't liberals? Oooookaayyyy. When did Kep switch from weed to opioids?

Re: POTUS 45.29: Eggs and Tweet Storms for Breakfast

But if you compare the two who ran, yes he was more positive. Not completely but more so out of the two. That was his whole slogan. What did Hillary push that was so glowing?

Jesus, it's like you've never listened to a Trump speech.

-FAILING
-DISASTER
-No Good
-Loser
-Illegal immigrants POURING IN
-World LAUGHING at us
-HORRIBLY negotiated deals
-MAGA (implying it hasn't been great)

Need I go on? He's the most negative campaigner since Nixon.

Exactly. But the 33% believes he's positive cause they want what he's selling.
