What's hard about what is going on- dump thinks that 10k people are able to do something useful, when 3M people trying to survive are having a tough time doing it. The situation may be slowly improving (and it is, based on people we talk to), but not fast enough (as the same people are trying to leave).

It really sucks that one can have relatives there that you are 100% helpless to be able to do anything about. We *might* be able to fly there, but beyond getting to the airport, there's not much we can do. We can't find info about rental cars, and we can't find info about any open hotel even for one night. It's taken us over a week for one sister to call mom- which was via very, very spotty cell service for someone else. She still has no power, food is scarce, no communications, etc.

Basically, we can't do anything. It's not as if people are not trying, as if dump thinks it's that way. People are trying. This sucks.

dump needs to make sure that the large helicopter systems that are used to erect power structures are moved down ASAP to help rebuild the system. And there's quickly delivery of hardware to rebuild the roads just *enough* to be useful. Not fully rebuild but enough.

Here's what dump faces- right now, Puerto Ricans who live on the islands can't vote for President. If a large group of them move to Orlando, I'm sure they would vote in the next election. In 2018.

I've heard there are serious concerns about people just giving up and moving to the mainland with nothing because they've lost everything and Puerto Rico is an absolute hellhole right now.

Any competent employer in an at-will state can find SOME reason to let someone go, even IF the "real" reason is because the employee has the gayz.

You'd be surprised. Remember, think how dumb someone of average intelligence is, then remember that half the population is dumber than that. There are a lot of small business owners and middle managers that fall into that group.

And government investigators at the EEOC and state level commissions aren't idiots. Overworked and under-compensated, sure, but they've seen all the tricks employers try to pull.

Much like NDHockey you're missing the bigger point. The only way to offer much protection is to make all cases of letting people go more difficult. If that were to happen there could be unintended consequences. I absolutely think that it should be illegal to fire people based on their gender identification or sexual preference, but when you combine that with at will employment it doesn't offer them much protection.

I think you are missing the bigger point. If it is wrong, let alone unconstitutional, to fire someone because of their sexual preference, you prohibit it. I've been involved in enough wrongful termination litigation to know that if a company is prone to letting people go for impermissible reasons, it is very difficult to hide from halfway decent discovery. That's why unofan points out that if you are going to fire someone, you better have a reason. And once someone has access to your records through discovery, pretext firings are not that difficult to spot.

During an interview on CBS's "Face The Nation," the Wisconsin Republican was asked how he would rate Trump's ability to bring the country together after saying a year ago that he hoped Trump would be inclusive.

"He's learning. I know his heart's in the right place," Ryan said.

This is a joke, right? republicans will let this nation fry before they admit they were wrong to let a dangerously mentally ill emotional midget hijack their party. They will literally let this country fry. There aren't a dozen patriots left in the republican party who would put country first, and most of the ones who would are too stupid, trusting or naive to see what a ridiculous prospect it is to let trump continue. If he's mentally ill and those in positions of power around him did their patriotic duty, I too would hope it is just his scrambled brains. In Nixon's final weeks and months in office the adults in the room were able to keep tricky Dick from lighting up the world in a fit of pique, and the Secretary of Defense literally instructed field commanders to run any "unusual" orders through him before carrying them out. The problem is there are not enough adults in the room, and too many people around him have deplorable notions of what a president should do. Fortunately it seems Tillerson and Mattis are the two cabinet officials who occasionally seem to have most of their marbles. They MIGHT stand in trump's way should he do something monumentally stupid instead of just the incredibly stupid stuff he's been doing.
