POTUS 45.19: Being Douced by Irma makes me sad!!

No you cant have different rules for different states, they need to parallel. You cant make it possible that say California or Texas will change the rules at different times to ensure the proportionality they want. The fact that we allow that now is stupid. The Constitution needs to be changed...

Stop with the narrative "Fed bad, States good" because there is ample evidence every hour on the hour that the State is just as evil and stupid.

Handy

We are the United States, not a Federal Republic. You amend the Constitution that way and you might as well abolish the States and we'll have Pangea.

Re: POTUS 45.19: Being Douced by Irma makes me sad!!

You can't have every state making its own rules for federally elected officials. Especially when some are clearly rigging the system and have shown they can't be trusted. If the derp states want to be poor forever that's on them but when their stupidity affects the entire nation it's a problem.

Re: POTUS 45.19: Being Douced by Irma makes me sad!!

On a similar note, California just passed a bill requiring Presidential candidates release 5 years worth of tax returns to appear on their ballot.

We can't nuke the south anymore. I'm in it.

Mookie ran into waterstone on Piccadilly this morning and had 8 books in his arms before he remembered he was still having to fly 20k miles in the coming week and wasn't inclined to carry them :(

One was a novel American War written by an Arab about the next civil war coming in 2070s. Have to figure how to buy it in the ME now.

Brit books stores are awesome. So much stuff available that ain't in a Barnes and nobles

Not sure what you're trying to say here but hopefully people get what I mean.

They are elected from/by states, not from any federal entity or any federal citizens

Lookit, when one goes and cherry picks there are a number of f Ed up things, but one the whole it works and Mookie is a fan.

He's saying the direct elections are held by each state, or district within each state, to send senators and reps to Congress, the same with the president.

Re: POTUS 45.19: Being Douced by Irma makes me sad!!

I mean I get what he's saying but who gets elected from each state (and especially IRT president) has an impact at the federal level and obviously impacts every single state collectively. If they're doing some gerrymandering BS to get a desired outcome that affects officials at the federal level then the states rights argument doesn't hold a lot of water.

I know you're young, but before the one man one vote SCOTUS opinion back in the 60s, states did all sorts of crazy things in setting up the election of HofR members. Some (CT comes to mind) had at large reps + districts.

SCOTUS will get involved if and only if a state has somehow violated the Constitution and existing laws on the books. Just because a system is unfair, does not make it automatically illegal/unconstitutional.

"How the Right Lost Their Mind," a new book by former Milwaukee Conservative radio host Charlie Sykes. It is reflective of his time behind the Mic as a voice for Conservatives, and questions just how far away from shore has the GOP swam with no hint of turning back towards shore.

While Sykes has come a long way toward making sense of what happened, he is still somewhat bewildered by Trump’s decisive capture of the movement. From Sykes’ perspective, it was a hostile takeover, constituting a “repudiation of the conservative mind.” As Sykes writes in the book, Trump had tapped into “something disturbing that we had ignored and perhaps nurtured — a shift from an emphasis on freedom to authoritarianism and from American ‘exceptionalism’ to nativism.”
Sykes does appreciate the “strange new respect” he is getting from corners of the media world that used to dismiss him. But he is still quick to criticize the “liberal media,” arguing that their shabby treatment of conservatives fueled the rise of the right-wing propaganda machine. Conservative news-seekers, he writes, “were drawn to safe places, but also pushed.”
At some point, conservative talk radio hosts discovered that traditional news sources make perfect foils. So the talkers pounced, and kept pouncing, until, Sykes writes, “We had succeeded in convincing our audiences to ignore and discount any information whatsoever from the mainstream media.” He regrets that this strategy of delegitimization served to “destroy much of the right’s immunity to false information.”

"liberal media's shabby treatment of conservatives"?

Tune into the Sunday morning news shows, who do you see there every week? Republicans. When Republicans are in power, it's because "they're the voice of government". When Democrats are in power it's because "we need to present the opposing side".

Has been that way since at least 2000, and probably goes back to the Clinton years and Whitewater.

Yeah, this whole joke that these white male conservative media guys are somehow oppressed is the biggest fallacy on the planet. And they get away with it. It's unreal.

Re: POTUS 45.19: Being Douced by Irma makes me sad!!

Just because a system is unfair, does not make it automatically illegal/unconstitutional.

I can make a good argument that it is unconstitutional based on violation of one man/one vote. If you set up a system that is designed to weight the scales for your party you are violating my rights.

We're just used to it, like we're used to bribery in campaign financing. But they are both unconstitutional. We've had a conservative / Republican-named Court for 30 years so they haven't caught up yet, but in good Founders form the truth will out, eventually. It likely would have this time around if not for Mitch's grand theft.

Well heck then, let's go straight up one man one vote ... for everything.

No need for a President or Congress.
Pure democracy.
We have the tech for it.

Everyone get out your smart phones (mookie, you get out your Obamaphone ;) ) and get ready to text what to do about Kim Jong-un.

Ready?
Text "1" to 876-5309 to nuke him.
Text "0" to 634-5789 to do nothing.

What?
You don't like that idea?
Well, sometimes Dan "The Common Man" Cole on KFAN in MSP is right.
He consistently claims "7 otta 10" people are complete morons.

Pure democracy is thus by definition 70% moronic. ;) :D

While I think a guy like Sykes will have an interesting perspective, I think his blind spot is that this started rolling in the 90s with Rush and later Fox. The development of the current right in power was 1) dumbing down of information - much of the forementioned sources have relied on opinion which is always assumed as 100% legitimate by those sources 2) treatment of the left in America as the enemy.

While there's probably some truth to the fact that this led the mainstream media to cast a disparaging eye on the right, it made many on the right skeptical of everyone including RINOs, the cities and wall street.

Please. Should we just go with zero percent democracy? How about a 100% dictatorship? I'll run it and you do what I say.

We need a government that represents the general will of the people. Having an American public that supports liberal policies (per general 2016 voter results) run by a conservative government that does not support those policies does not represent the broader will of the people. By your green light to the current election, representation would be just as valid having the socialist Elizabeth Warren side of the Democratic party running the whole government.

Nice to see the fat dateless boys in their Mom's basement have a radio host.

Kittens: this stuff hasn't been funny outside a frat after the fourth beer since 1977. Please grow up.
