The difference b/w Canada and here is the delays are across the board up there and based on need. You may need gall bladder surgery but if it isn't urgent you will wait. Here you may not get it because if it isn't urgent and you can't pay, you are denied, period.
Here it is income dependent and insurance dependent. Not just delays but outright denials for treatment that everyone agrees is necessary but the person can't afford. Meds, tests, procedures. It is all denied unless it would be immediately life threatening. If you need chemo too bad. Have a car accident, try to bleed out- OK for now but you are now bankrupt and your family will have to sell their souls to further treatment as soon as you can be discharged.
All of what you post is true. Also- why is it the same people who want to brag about how incredible a country we are are quick to say we are stupid when it comes to being able to solve the issues other countries have.No need to "contract" out the paperwork- just absorb the people doing the real work into the government system. But the problem with that is you "nationalize" a profitable industry. Even if they are just money launders, and that's all they do.
One thing that will stop are dumb denials of payment. Which just cycles workers who do nothing.
Just as important- instead of the goal of making as much money for shareholders, the people doing the healthcare system will be more motivated to keep people healthy- to minimize output. Priorities change. This may not be more specifically more efficient, but it probably would churn less.
It's funny when people talk about Canada- as if they are an example of how bad a single payer system can be. Our system has huge delays in service, too. And many people struggle to get timely service, too. Every complaint Canada have, we have too- many times far more of it. But there's another thread for this discussion.
