I don't think he is as dumb as you and others are led to believe. I get the impression it is more a combination of laziness and just not caring. With both DACA and the debt ceiling he is taking the path of least resistance. It seems he doesn't really care either way about both issues.

It would have been interesting to see what he would have been like as president 25 years ago. Not that he was ever an intellectual heavyweight but there must have been a day when he was more motivated and engaged.

You fall for too much of the narrative about trump. That's sad. trump was never even an intellectual welterweight. I'd say on the weigh-in he'd stack up with the featherweights, about the intellectual equivalent of around 125 pounds. He was also never really engaged or motivated, beyond listening to his own bluster, and then wasting as much of daddy's $$$ on lawyers as it took to wear his opponents down. "trump" is a myth, concocted by P.R. people and marketers. He's not a good businessman, he's not a master negotiator, he's never had any visionary thinking. You'd do well to understand this.

He's a man without email problems. That's enough to be President.

All of this, so much. "Trump" is just a brand, like "Jello." There's nothing behind it but marketing. The man himself is just a silver spoon dope; the only thing about him that is above average is his self-regard, which is clinical.

Trump is what you get if you vat-grow a brain with no accountability, awareness, or ambition beyond basic Maslow needs.

Being lazy and disinterested are classic signs of being dumb. Just saying.

As a lazy smart person I resent this.

Being incurious and disinterested are classic signs of being dumb.

Caveat, not being a workaholic does not make one lazy.

Or perhaps put another way, I read lazy as intellectually lazy, which is simply another way of saying "incurious"

DACA is a bit intriguing... seems like Trump's giving the GOP one last chance to do their job. The people already distrust the GOP Congress now that they've exposed their hand through the PPACA, and there's already talks about primary challenges in 2018.

As for the debt ceiling, until there's an actual audit of the Federal Reserve, I've given up any hope on that. Generations have been brainwashed by Keynes' idiotic theories of spending your way into prosperity, and unless we actually get someone to put their foot down and say "No", that's just going to keep going up and up. Until we see some actual spending cuts from the Federal government, we're not getting to a balance anytime soon. As much as I can appreciate the encouragement of growth, that's not going to be enough at this point.

Except they didn't.

Except they did. Every poll, every handicapper, everyone with a pulse had her winning and winning big. Even 538 had her winning (while playing conservative with the numbers due to different factors) Were you in a cave?

For clarity's sake, the polls never showed a trouncing. They showed Hillary winning many states by narrow margins, which most people interpreted as a trouncing.

Well I meant an Electoral trouncing...I should have been more clear about that. At one point she was well over 300 EVs IIRC.

I think you're talking about different things. All of the electoral forecasts had Clinton crushing Trump. Most of the final popular vote estimates were at a few percentage points in favor of Clinton (3-5% IIRC, but don't quote me).

FWIW, almost all of the polls (both nationally and at the state level) were within the margin of error. Unfortunately, the error went to the wrong way...depending on your viewpoint of course. ;)

I thought it was a done deal myself. This past election was amazing (in the true sense of the word, not the everyday lingo sense).

Late to the game on all the Hillary stuff, but good lord you can cure meats with the salt coming from those excerpts. Sorry not everyone stepped out of the way to hand you the nomination.

As I've said before: You could have handed the election to the (D) party had you nominated anyone but Hillary.

On the (R) side: offer up anyone. ANYONE! And they did. And they won.

Astounding.
