Bernie doesn't matter. Hillary doesn't matter. They're dead and buried.

The future matters. Eyes on the prize.

The future. Just don't pick anyone with high levels of estrogen.

The people who won't vote for a woman because she's a woman are voting Republican already. We can ignore them.

So, anyone taking bets we default on our debt?

Senator Paul and Cruz have come out against Debt Ceiling funding being tied to Hurricane Harvey. Kepler promised a clean bill. Now it's not even clean. AND, Trump just threw a MOAB into Congress by rescinding DACA so they're all distracted.

They have very little time to get the Debt Ceiling passed and without it Harvey gets NO relief cause there's no money in FEMA coffers (another grand strategy by Trump).

Bye Bye Credit. Saw Pawlenty do it to Minnesota. It's the Republican way. And no one loves defaulting on credit more than your current President.

Would anyone be shocked if he just disregards it and keeps operating normally?

However, Sanders would have gotten crushed by Trump.

While I can agree with most of the sentiment in your post, show me the evidence that this is true. As noted many times, the polls were numerous in 2016 that showed Sanders fairing better against trump (and most of the republican field for that matter) that Clinton. In the end, the raw numbers of those polls were pretty close too. The most common thought was Clinton would get 2 or 3 per cent more votes than trump, and that's about what she got. It is only your speculation that leads you to believe that Sanders would not have held up over the general election time frame.

Part of the appeal to the party regulars about Clinton was that she appeared to have black voters on her side, and many black voters said as much in polls and interviews. Well, black people who could not be bothered to vote in November for a white person was a large reason trump amassed enough votes in enough states to win. So the argument that black voters would not show up for Sanders got shot down in November. I think that goes to your argument about left leaning voters needing to feel 100% in line with someone and not settling for the 80%, but it is certainly true about Clinton and would have been no more true about Sanders.

trump obviously got the "throw a brick through the window" crowd riled up and they came out. Sanders staying power in the primaries showed that there was a strong element of that feeling among democrats as well, and may have been a reason that Sanders could have lived up to the polls that showed him fairing better too. Now that is just speculation on my part, but I am admitting as much.

I think you and Kep are both right. I want the democratic party to throw some true economic progressives out there, but I know that as the parties are currently constituted, right now there IS a real difference between the republicans and the democrats and anyone who isn't a raging bigot needs to vote for a democratic candidate. And I have been expressing that sentiment since 2015. We need to behave as the republicans behave. In fact our candidates need to do that as well. Right now it is ONLY about getting elected. Until that happens you can't fix anything.

That's not how it works. If you don't raise the ceiling the checks stop being worth anything. He can't just say "keep printing the checks." There is nothing to write the checks against. "Keptin, I kinna change the laws of finance."

Now, of course, yes, this is stupid, because the whole idea of the debt ceiling is stupid. The money has already been spent. The debt ceiling is Congress throwing a party on Saturday night and then on Monday morning saying "we've decided we can't afford that party so we're not paying for it."

YOU. ALREADY. SPENT. THE. MONEY. YOU. DUMB. F-CKS.

But the young people are clearly the problem you see, they definitely shouldn't listen to them seeing as old people get younger and all.

As a 54-year old I am entirely in favor of killing everyone over 39 and starting over.

"We tried to do our best but we could not." DFA us.

Kepler's Run??

Hold Carousel at all the NFL stadiums each New Year's Day and televise it. 3 million people a year / 32 venues = 94 thousand each. Perfect.

Could he try to issue an executive order? I would expect something unconventional.

So, in addition to pushing Health Care on the do nothing Congress. The Debt Ceiling. DACA. Trump is now going to hand them the Iran Nuclear Deal.

Also, there is a theme here. If Obama did it, Trump wants to undo it. Everything Obama did will be gone by the time this President leaves office. It will be like he was never there.

Obama will lose his legacy if Trump or the Republicans continue their control. Especially if they keep the House in 2018.

See I disagree. Congress isnt going to fight the Tehran deal and they certainly arent going to risk going to war with Iran. Just like with ObamaCare they dont have the sack to make the tough decisions.

The more Trump passes off to Congress the less he is going to get what he wants. The man hasnt gotten through one thing he has tried. Even his Executive Orders fail most of the time...

And yet most data indicates otherwise including the open primary states.

http://www.uspresidentialelectionnews.com/2016-presidential-primary-schedule-calendar/

Show me the open or mixed primary states that Bernie won. I see 2 - Vermont/NH (duh) and his Michigan shocker. That's it by my count.

ND, polls about Bernie vs Trump are meaningless. Nobody campaigned against Sanders including Hillary herself as she tried to keep his supporters in the fold (and like 1M of them still ended up voting for Trump ). What would Sanders poll numbers have been after Trump ripped him to shreds as a doddering old man out of central casting from the 1960's? Recall as well Sanders was terrible in interviews when asked to defend his proposals.

Kep, you're out of your mind. Since 1992, Dems have 1) raised taxes on the wealthy while cutting them on the lower end, 2) expanded healthcare and govt entitlement programs (ACA, SCHIP), 3) enacted background checks on guns, 4) raised clean energy levels and gas mileage standards, 5) re-regulated financial industry, and 6) expanded LGBT rights including gay marriage.

The problem, once again, is Dems have gotten lazy and stopped participating in elections if candidates didn't meet some iron clad purity test. Since no one candidate is likely to check every box out there for the entirety of their careers, yours is a self fulfilling prophesy of losing, caused and enacted by yourself.

Not true. Sarah Sanders accidentally said "President Obama" instead of Trump twice in her briefing today. Good thing these idiots probably don't believe in Freud's work.

Re: POTUS 45.18 - Who Run Derpertown? McMasterBlaster Run Derpertown.

It says something about the strength of your argument that every time we discuss this you have to bring out your smears about being starry-eyed for Bernie or being a pothead college student at Saturday market.

Maybe if you actually talked about the merits of policy you would convince somebody. But ad hom and snark is all you have. There is nothing behind your snarling except "''shut up,' he explained."

We tried your way for thirty years after getting routed by Reagan. We tried shelving liberal policy because we didn't want to anger the big money donors or scare away the suburbanites. After the blowouts of the 80s that seemed reasonable. In 1992 maybe it was indeed the best we could do.

But sticking with that strategy has gotten us where we are today: a government up and down the tiers dominated by conservatives, the rebirth of rightwing fanaticism and fascism, the steady erosion of women's rights, burgeoning racism, an inequality chasm that has destroyed the middle class, and the institutionalization of bribery to replace democratic government with plutocracy.

Your way failed. Our way may fail but (1) we deserve a chance, and (2) the one time we held sway we created the middle class and the American economic miracle while beating the Nazis, and that's a pretty good track record.

Rover's way didnt fail. The voters failed. If they would have done things the way Rover and I said (and you did by voting for Hillary despite not liking her just like me) Clinton is President and we arent the laughingstock of the world worried about Nuclear War with Iran and having Nazis walking around feeling all emboldened. Sometimes you need to sacrifice.

You know how in every Submarine movie there is that point where the Captain has to kill a couple his crew cause their compartment is flooding and if he doesnt the whole sub goes down? Well the Republicans would close the hatch and get on with the mission. The Democrats would spend 20 minutes weighing the pros and cons then let the sub sink because if they cant save every life then no life is worth living!

You gotta live in the real world man...you cant get what you want if you dont play the game and the Dems arent playing. We can sit here all day and talk about how right we are and how we are getting screwed but it changes nothing. Trump didnt win because of any sort of screwjob, he won because the Left doesnt know how to fight. Until they are willing to stand up to the GOP and punch back they will lose and lose badly.
