Re: POTUS 45.15 - Now With More Yacht Banging Stories!

But my choice is still saying something. Pols always ask "what does it take to get people to vote?" Well, I (and my ilk) are part of the answer. GET me to want to vote for you. And here's a hint: it ain't by sleaze politics, which has become the norm today.

No, what you're trying to do is absolve yourself of responsibility for not sacking up, and voting for the candidate who was clearly the lesser of two evils. Especially now that the greater evil has won, is lighting everything on fire, and his supporters are cheering him on as they watch the world burn.

But at least you "stuck to your principles" by chickening out. Way to go.

Democrats definitely have an image problem in many parts of the country, as evidenced by all the Bernie support. I think I've made it pretty clear that I didn't like the guy. I thought he was a cranky carnival barker with an agenda that would never pass in the current political climate. We need a candidate who has some of his energy, and a sensible plan for the middle class majority, without going off the rails about "FREE COLLEGE1!!11!", and all of that claptrap.

Right there is a start. I never thought Perot would be a good prez, but he'd have been an asset to the administration.

Perot's infomercials savaging trickle-down economics made a lot of sense, but from what I've read, he was a social conservative nut.

I think he would have run the gov't like a business, like Trump, but sensible-like. As if Buffett were in charge of finances. Not a good prez, but stick him financial somewhere.

He was Okie trash that made good. He hated gays and non-Christians and he wasn't very bright, but he wasn't a fuming fundy either. He knew how to sell and he knew how to get gubbmint graft. He was essentially Bill Gates with a country twang.

Why is free college a clap trap? I'm all for reforming education here. Let's do it like Germany- you get free college if you perform well and score high enough marks in high school. If you don't, you can go to a trade school.

Didn't Hilary get all of Minnesotas electoral votes? yet somehow Brent not voting for either candidate caused Trump to win.

There are a bunch of other Brents living in the rust belt. A few thousand of them decided the election.

He doesn't get a pass because of where he lives. He's part of the insanity that got us where we are now. I bet he can't cite a policy reason why he hates Hillary so much

Re: POTUS 45.15 - Now With More Yacht Banging Stories!

Going into the election, Wisconsin voters had the same reasons Brent had to note "not-Hil." Although we've supported cretinous arseholes for state office in recent years, we've historically supported dem presidential candidates, and most of us thought she would carry the state without serious problem. But it would have been irresponsible not to support Clinton, regardless of predictions or whether the end result got us off the hook (it didn't, obviouosly). As I believe unofan commented earlier when talking about the false equivalencies so many Rs engage in, there is a difference between ebola and the common cold. If you have to choose which one to expose your family to, it's no excuse to throw your hands up and say they are both diseases.

I'm sure you didn't vote for Hillary either, and Trump won your district and split off one electoral vote from Maine.

You're a Brent. Congrats, you get some of the blame.

The kind of person who would hem and haw over who to support wasn't very bright and was almost certainly swayed by the fact that Hillary never bothered to campaign here.

Just one visit would've possibly turned around enough of those people and made something happen.

Re: POTUS 45.15 - Now With More Yacht Banging Stories!

Trump has decided they are now going to investigate colleges for affirmative action.
Thank god- things have been real rough for the rich white males lately.

So when dump asked minorities "what do you have to lose?" - the answer- a lot.

dump is attacking minority voting, attacking minority education in all aspects, attacking the ability to stand up against police abuse (enhancing the possibility of abuse, actually), and is finding better ways to get the minorities out of the general public- by better prisons or deportations.

Awesome.

At least we know now that we are going back to at least the 50's- where minorities knew their place, and we can be constantly worried about the veil of being accused of some kind of anti-American crap. :(

this is the face of real evil. the recollections of steps that these guys are doing vs. the nazis in the early 30's is so very close, it's scary. Nobody wants to make the comparison- but there's no question that there's a lot of history repeating itself, in ways that we thought we could prevent.

Instead of a third party -- which our system has pretty much kept at bay -- why not just promote and elect grown-ups in your own party? I've voted for republicans before. And at every level of government from local all the way to the White House. It is possible for a political party to run sane candidates. The problem with republicans isn't the candidates they attract. It is the philosophy of the party itself. trump really does represent mainstream republican party ideals. Maybe not "conservative" ideals, but as football coaches everywhere like to point out, you are what you are. The republican party doesn't really stand for any of the things republican mouthpieces like to trumpet. Sadly, republicans like you have let your party become what it is today. Even sadder still, there are 60 million of you sitting around trying to convince me, yourself, God only knows who, that despite all of the smoke pouring from every exposure of the house, there really isn't a fire, it's all just media kerfluffle. Well let me tell you, I've ridden in the big truck with the lights and sirens and put the wet stuff on the red stuff. Where there is that much smoke, you can believe there's a fire, brother. trump, and a lot of the people he surrounds himself with, are as guilty as sin. And people like you should be ashamed of how you constantly find any little reason to defend him or your party, instead of demanding that the leaders of your party put actual, real, patriotism first.

So you think that one random person is going to change the whole party? Then later on you say the Republican Party has gone off the rails and is hopeless. I really don't understand why at this point, especially after Trump was elected, why people would be resistant to a third party. The two party system clearly hasn't worked this century. Why not try for something better?

I don't think people are resistant to a third party. The players who hold the chips and pull the strings are, and they have the wherewithal to control the people.

If we let them. Much better opportunity for a third party with social media. The problem is most go off the rails with some sort of wacko social issue thing. I'd like to see one that stuck to strictly economic issues.

It seems the White House isn't gilded enough for Donnie's "taste" in decor.

Oh come on, we all have called at least one building on the National Historic Landmark registry a dump at one time or another. I know I've called Wrigley Field a dump. Repeatedly. :D

For the record, I am NOT Theo Epstein or a member of the Rickett's family, so that isn't the same as Trump calling the White House a dump.

Seriously though, this is pretty **** ignorant, yet consistent with Trump's actions.
Exhibit A
Exhibit B
Exhibit C

Funny how when you let a businessman run the country, all he sees is dollar signs in the liquifiable assets.

(Yes, I am aware that Wrigley Field is only a recognized landmark by the City of Chicago and not a National Landmark. Used for effect.)

When you go out of your way to defend a group of people who you then claim you don't fully support, and in theory, you didn't vote for partially- this post completely falls flat.

How can you defend a party so much when they have "gone off the rail and is hopeless"??

Seems to me that you like to say that, but in actual practice, you are ok with it. So, yes, given your lack of any spine to stand up against you own party, a single person can do nothing.

At least you know before even trying.
