There's some love for trump on the ND-specific board I belong to, but far more distrust or hatred of Clinton than love of trump. Obviously a lot of ND grads lean to the right but I don't fear chiming in on the political board there. Some threads you just know to avoid, but I find links to good, useful articles there almost as often as here.

This is going to be interesting. There are obviously some seriously big time criminals at the end of the Mueller trail -- people way, way above Trump's and even Putin's pay grade. Do they have enough power to reach into the justice system and engineer a preferred outcome? This could actually break into the level of people who are beyond state control -- the people who are literally above the law and who use their money to buy not objects but invisibility.

There's a great line in the Politico article about the transgender ban:

The president’s directive, of course, took the House issue a step beyond paying for gender reassignment surgery and other medical treatment. House Republicans were never debating expelling all transgender troops from the military.

"This is like someone told the White House to light a candle on the table and the WH set the whole table on fire,” said one senior House Republican aide. The source said that while GOP leaders asked the White House for help on the taxpayer matter specifically, they weren't expecting — and got no heads up on — Trump's far-reaching directive.

It's ironic Trump is banning transgender troops, since I'm pretty sure tucking it between his legs was his backup strategy if they didn't fall for bone spurs.

One of the many troubling aspects of Trump's idiocy is that many people will see his incompetence as just what they bargained for: a change in the way Washington does business.

What do you suggest Republicans do? I don't see a great solution with the current situation. I think it would be easier to remove Trump if there was something concrete he did to break the law/rig the election. As much smoke as there has been, hasn't been any fire. Another question is what does a post-Trump world look like with Pence in charge?

I suggest they start speaking truth to power with Trump. When he does his infantile tweet storm, call it that. When he lies, call him on it. And above all stop countenancing Trump's dictatorial ploys. Stop being scared of the Deplorables and when Trumps acts against the spirit of democratic government condemn him for it. In short, pretend Trump has a (D) after his name and hold him to that standard.

If they would hold him to that kind of standard he would have been impeached already. I would settle for the R's just calling him out on his lies at this point.

We suffer through 2.5-3 years of Kansas' already failed "small government" experiment done at the federal level. With any luck, a Dem who is qualified, feisty, and capable of speaking to the rubes in a way that doesn't sound like an angry wife or a stuffy college prof, rises up to crush Pence's 2020 re-election bid.
