Re: POTUS 45.13 - CNN is still Fake News

Correct. Trump voters only care about getting their jollies from offending libs, which is why I now just troll them in response. "Yep, I'm all in favor of having the feds confiscate everyone's guns - even BB guns, and performing mandatory abortions on every other white embryo."

It's not even worth trying to have a conversation with these folks.

Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States of America:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="und" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/FraudNewsCNN?src=hash">#FraudNewsCNN</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/FNN?src=hash">#FNN</a> <a href="https://t.co/WYUnHjjUjg">pic.twitter.com/WYUnHjjUjg</a></p>— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) <a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/881503147168071680">July 2, 2017</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Is mocking wrestling a good strategy given his voter base?

Re: POTUS 45.13 - CNN is still Fake News

I'm sure obama did something similar right? Right?
I mean it's not illegal....just sayin.

No, it's not illegal. No, Obama never did anything similar.

This would be the equivalent if Justin Trudeau Tweeted the fire emoji, US Flag emoji, and #WeCanDoItAgain on June 18th.

(I will say Trump's and my hypothetical Trudeau Tweets are humourus, but our world leaders should be held slightly above the same meme bullsh** that you and I Tweet.)

Trump would get more respect among foreign leaders if he did arm farts at press conferences. This is not anti-establishment, outside-the-box anything, folks; it's just your sorryazz child president.

At this point there is nothing I can think of, even sarcastically, that will get him respect among foreign leaders. :( They see him far more clearly than is good for us

Re: POTUS 45.13 - CNN is still Fake News

Trump voters (and many others) dont care about what foreign leaders think. These are the clowns that ate "freedom fries" un-ironically.

Re: POTUS 45.13 - CNN is still Fake News

CNN took it seriously along with the rest of the media. I don't think there is anything good about an attack on the first amendment and the Fourth Estate. And with the connection being made now between Russia and the Trump campaign, I'm somewhat hopeful.

This.

The stereotypical "trump voters" -- and really because of circumstances a lot of poor people -- are probably among the least cosmopolitan people around. trump voters though are the kind of people who gleefully reject anything that originates from anywhere beyond the holler they live in. The narrative over the last couple of presidencies with the republicans is actually you show weakness in some ways by considering what the rest of the world thinks.

Re: POTUS 45.13 - CNN is still Fake News

At the moment the United States seems to be entirely united against the lazy, would-be tyrant and his brownshirts. The fact that there is a bizarre, far right outlier faction that no longer cares about our nation, our values, or our people and is obsessed with hurting the people they don't like even if they get hurt in the process doesn't reflect on America, any more than the fact that there are terrorists claiming the name of Christianity or Islam says anything about those religions.

The far right doesn't have a country. It just has an inbred clan. It's not a portion of the nation that wants to be reconciled with American values. It's a cancer. The good thing is it's a cancer on an already withered, aged, vestigial and obsolete organ. The strategy now is containment: let them stew in their own bile; ring the perimeter with antibiotics; wait for the problem to inexorably solve itself.

Everybody that elected this clown believes in what he says, or worse yet knows he is a fraud but believes in the hate he spouts. Over 60 million voted for him, and we all know others who don't vote also agree with those who do. If the far right don't have a country than neither do the millions of people who DO believe in laws and open mindedness and do unto others.

Last week on PBS David Brooks had this to say:

David Brooks said:
Do the norms that used to govern politics re-establish themselves after the trump administration or are we here forever? I hope from the level of outrage that we have a snap-back, but the politics is broken, up and down, and trump may emerge from a reality TV world that is much more powerful than we think and there is the prospect that this is where we are, which is a horrific thought.

Kep, you know I respect your intelligence, your thoughtful take on just about any issue, but here you are wrong. This problem will not inexorably solve itself. It isn't just old white men. There are tens of millions of people who voted for trump that will be alive and well for the next election, and the one after that, and the one after that. I don't know what it will take.

Certainly it starts with getting people with critical thinking skills to the polls. But if the best we can do is elect a handful of people to stop one bad president, we may as well pack it in. Obama was elected and he promised to do something about health care. Then he did. And the economy grew more in 2010 than in any year since. How were we rewarded? With a republican congress. Elections alone won't mean a d am n thing in the overall scheme and we can't sit around waiting for trump voters to die. Even with his policies potentially killing off plenty of them there are still plenty that we have to worry about.

What world are you living in? You act like he took power because he won the lottery...the clown won 60 million votes. The "Far Right Outlier" you always dismiss controls both houses of Congress, most of the State Legislatures and the governorship. The outliers are us because we are on the Left and we actually choose to fight and give a ****.

Re: POTUS 45.13 - CNN is still Fake News

A generation is typically thought of as about 21 years' time. I'd say we are about half a generation away from the demographics really working against the GOP. That, I think, is at the heart of Kep's optimism. But that depends on some traditional voter assumptions, and we've learned how mistaken those can be.

What many have said about the 52% women's vote is true, IMO--that many of those women voted to support their husbands' current struggles. That 55-75 white male demographic brought the women along with it. The demographics will undoubtedly be a LOT different in 12 years, but it's hard to predict whether traditional voting assumptions will hold up.

Assuming you're right about the 21 years and we're about halfway to the demographics working against the republicans, a whole hell of a lot can still happen in 10 or 11 years. The world changes more quickly now than it did 50 or 100 or 200 years ago. How different was the world in 1914 than it was in 1905? How different was it in 1929 than it was in 1932? We can't simply wait for the old white men to die off. While they are dying, real damage is being done, lasting damage. The worst elements of our electorate and among the powers that be need maybe 2018 and 2020 to effect lasting changes that are either for all extents and purposed permanent, or to lead us into the next great world war. We can't wait for it to go away. Right now there isn't a single republican with the power to do so behaving as an American first.

Not that it matters, but I always thought of a generation as close to 30. 28-32 was a decent range and I always averaged it out to 30.

Re: POTUS 45.13 - CNN is still Fake News

I don't really know, but there's a snarly old property law called the Rule Against Perpetuities that uses 21 years as a sort of generational measure. It reads as follows:

No [nonvested property] interest is good unless it must vest, if at all, not later than 21 years after some life in being at the creation of the interest.

If you want it explained in a way you can understand, you'd better call on unofan.
