Re: POTUS 45.13 - CNN is still Fake News

Wow...I know 4th graders that get Supply and Demand better than that :p

His line is based directly upon certain supply side economic theories that hold there's a base demand for useful products and the supply needs to simply be created along with creating public awareness of the product as being useful.

Think of it like new industries that come into the mainstream, like home computer technology, smart phones, etc.. There was no demand for them prior to their existence, but now there's great demand after the product was created.

There are some glaring flaws in this line of thinking, but there are certain truths, as well. Most people who espouse the theory tend to overlook the flaws and misapply the truths.

Yeah creating a market is one thing, but flooding the market with supply doesnt mean people will buy the product. The computer market started small and built Apple and IBM didnt make a billion computers and watch as everyone bought them. It started out as a luxury item that as it became cheaper became a normal part of society which meant they need to up the supply. Demand was not correlated to a glut of supply, demand grew and supply did as well. (which of course you know because you took Microeconomics unlike these clowns)

I get what you are saying, but what you are saying is not what he and his Supply Side/Trickle Down/Laffer Curve Disciples are talking about. You are making economic sense...they are basically implying that quantity creates demand which is ridiculous and not even close to economically true. Leaving out that it doesnt take any advanced economic ideals into effect (like scarcity and elasticity just off the top of my head) it fundamentally is just laugably wrong. Look at the college degree...when going to college wasnt something everybody did having a diploma from college (even in basic Liberal Arts) was seen as a way to advance above entry level work and usually put you in line for better jobs with greater pay than just someone with a HS Diploma. Well as someone who helps hiring I can tell you that the glutton of people applying for every job who have a college degree (lots of supply) has made getting a job harder and devalued the worker. According to Reaganomics and the Numbnuts who believe in it because everyone is so highly educated we should have more jobs out there for them to get. How is that working out for them? (I went as simplistic as they do to prove a point, I know there is more than that involved)

My girlfriend's parents were international bankers for years who teach business and economics in college and spent much of the 80's as fiscally conservative types. Despite that they will go off on the stupidity of supply side economics on a macro level because it is destined to fail.

You are so right. This country would still have a thriving typewriter industry if only the so-called "Executives" in that industry had ramped up production in the face of so-called "better alternatives" like word processors and PCs rather than taking the girly liberal approach and shrinking from the fight. Thus taking the manly White Out industry with them - which if that's not reverse racism I don't know what is. Of course Obama wouldn't do anything to save THAT industry.

Makes sense that he got a D in Econ 203.

Jury is still out on his D in Meats class.

Yes, I know: phrasing.

Funny how Perry's economic theories about coal don't apply equally to solar.
