Newt has always been an idiot. The greatest insult one can come up with for conservatism in the last few decades is that they regard him as a sage. Somebody once described him perfectly as "a stupid person's idea of what a smart person is like."

I can't believe this but Beltwayers are now saying there is a non-zero chance that Trump will order Rosenstein to fire Mueller and, when he doesn't, then fire Rosenstein. Basically, Saturday Night Massacre II: Dictator Boogaloo. My God, if that happens, what do the Republicans do? Do they really go along with whatever BS Fox is spewing about it? Do they really go full derp?

They wont do anything...they cant. They have bent over backwards protecting and fellating the guy...if they go after him they not only will have to worry about being primaried but that they will be implicated somehow. Ryan for sure cant afford for anything to happen to Trump because he has been out in front defending him since almost Day 1.

The leadership should have divorced themselves from him on Day 1 to avoid all this. Instead they figured they could use him to get what they want. Well they might get some of it (Health Care for sure, Tax Reform most likely) but now all GOP House members are at risk in the midterms. When the head of your party is one of the least popular presidents in the Post-Vietnam era who has spent the majority of his time in office having his EOs shot down by the courts and being investigated for a bevy of offenses that will hurt you. Couldnt happen to a better group of frauds and sellouts.

You guys say that all the time, but other than a handful of legislation, I don't think they have.

The health care bills never resembled what don wanted- that's all R's, and 0 don. And it's funny that don then adopted it, but even with all of that, it barely got past house, and looks very different in the senate. Either way, nothing is what don said he wanted. So all he's looking for is to get credit for something getting done.

The fact that the continuing resolution was about 180deg from what don wants also should be very telling. Congress funded everything minus 1% in spite of the fact that few leaders have been nominated. And didn't put a penny to the wall.

And even if the senate gets their super secret health care bill out- it's going to conflict a lot with the house. Which re-starts that fight.

The next actual thing to work on will be the budget. We will see how that goes. People take don's proposal at its face value, not hearing congress saying- "yea, not so much".

And if all of that can be worked out- THEN we should see the tax reform. By then, so many of the R's will be pressured not to hand out tax breaks for the rich- it will be chaos.

After all that, then what?

There has to be a line they won't cross. The PM of NZ trolls Trump and he nukes Auckland. He f-cks Ivanka live during the SOTU. He says abortion should perhaps be legal if the life of the mother is at risk.

There has to be an offense the GOP won't forgive.

GOP establishment tried to fight Trump. But he kept winning the primaries. Then all the other Derps (Carson) signed into Trump instead of others.

Now they're stuck with him. And we need to hang him around everyone of their necks in every election there is until it no longer works.

Yes. Trump needs to be the face the voter automatically thinks of when he thinks of the GOP. The 2018 election is simple: "do you want this dingbat to have more power or less"?

Yep, no Democrat for the foreseeable future should even consider using the word "Republicans" without also mentioning Trump. The Republicans own what is happening right now. Hopefully even a decade from now, the Democrats have enough sense to still be talking about the party of Trump.

In a sane world that would make sense. It's also a summary of Hillary's whole losing campaign against Trump. He's not a different person/goblin now than he was last summer.
I listened to an interesting podcast yesterday about political rhetoric. When the gay marriage movement made ads in the language of liberals about "fairness" and "love" it didn't move the needle at all - the people who cared about fairness and love were already onboard. When they made different ads about how gay people are patriotic and loyal and in the armed forces and digging ditches they got a bunch of conservatives to switch sides.
The point is... wait, there are at least 3 points. 1. Find something positive to talk about ("give us back control of our health care and retirement future" could be a good one) 2. Talk to people in their own language (stress support for "down-to-earth" candidates) ... 4. Profit!
