POTUS 45.1 - You take the high road and I'll take the low road

Um, wasn't that rule that people who were SS pensioners because they were insane shouldn't have guns?

Cuz I'm pretty much OK with that.

Granted, Flag's right to worry.

Had zero to do with sanity. Was completely about how much money one had. Vets have to deal with issue. It's disgusting.

The seven countries now in question were singled out by a law Mr. Obama signed in 2015.

And here I thought Mr. Obama should be chastised for leaving his desk blotter on his desk where he'd been taking meeting notes. Never leave your desk blotter; the new guy will use it. (I didn't think Mr. Trump came up with those by himself. Turns out he didn't.)

Where am I most upset with this?
15 of the 9/11 terrorists came from Saudi Arabia. Why aren't they on this list for "extreme vetting."* If you're going to claim this is about "terror", why not that.

*That's rhetorical. We all know why they weren't on Obama's or Trump's list.

http://www.cnn.com/cnn/2017/01/29/p...ministration-chose-the-7-countries/index.html
In December 2015, President Obama signed into law a measure placing limited restrictions on certain travelers who had visited Iran, Iraq, Sudan, or Syria on or after March 1, 2011. Two months later, the Obama administration added Libya, Somalia, and Yemen to the list, in what it called an effort to address "the growing threat from foreign terrorist fighters."

The restrictions specifically limited what is known as visa-waiver travel by those who had visited one of the seven countries within the specified time period. People who previously could have entered the United States without a visa were instead required to apply for one if they had traveled to one of the seven countries.

Under the law, dual citizens of visa-waiver countries and Iran, Iraq, Sudan, or Syria could no longer travel to the U.S. without a visa. Dual citizens of Libya, Somalia, and Yemen could, however, still use the visa-waiver program if they hadn't traveled to any of the seven countries after March 2011.

Trump's order is much broader. It bans all citizens from those seven countries from entering the U.S. and leaves green card holders subject to being rescreened after visiting those countries.

The bill Obama signed put another layer on people traveling to/from those countries to ensure security. No where did he (or the bill's sponsor or 90 co-sponsors from the House) put a ban on travel from these nations.

But sure, let's blame the previous fella for this current sh** storm.

Yup. Wasn't the first to establish a National Park?

And now, like everything that's become politicized, when you have the power your are righteous with it; when the other side has the power they are demonic with it.

Obama's 2015 Terrorist Travel Prevention Act was righteous; Trump's EO is ________.

When I see stuff like this I'm more convinced that this is all the magician's front hand and that we, the public, are being played.

False equivalency for the win.

Agreed!!!!!

Re: POTUS 45.1 - You take the high road and I'll take the low road

Did your Magic 8-Ball replace its [Sigh] with "False equivalency" as your new catchphrase?

It's the correct term for this Presidency and the campaign to this Presidency. It's also why the media is failing us. Sigh just doesn't cut it.

Congress is expected to fix this very soon.

I have no problem keeping mentally ill people from purchasing firearms.

Re: POTUS 45.1 - You take the high road and I'll take the low road

OK, I'll ask the $64,000 question: What is the exact text of the executive order?

I believe my comments about Executive Orders and Obama came about in the context that his expansion of their use was one of only two real criticisms I had of his administration. I'm pretty sure every time Obama issued an Executive Order I wasn't in here whining in the political threads. Don't expect me to do so now that Trump is issuing them. I've stated my opinion on Executive Orders, and most of you disagreed with me, even though I warned that no party stays in power forever.

Do you not understand the evidence between executive orders generally and this specific executive order, that was clearly done without input from any affected party, agency, or person?

It's the substance that has people in the left up in arms, not the fact that is an executive order.

Re: POTUS 45.1 - You take the high road and I'll take the low road

You obviously didn't read it. It's about how much money you have not your mental state.

wrong. it's about being unable to manage your own affairs "due to "marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease". Sure, that might be too broad, but being poor in and of itself is not a reason. The intent is to block mentally ill people from purchasing firearms.

It will take a courageous president to tell Congress that the days of governing by executive order and the Federal Register are over. If they don't legislate it and write how they want it implemented, it ain't happening.

And you don't want that to happen, because you don't want Congress micromanaging every little detail of every little program every time a new situation occurs. Because God forbid a civil servant be allowed to use judgment and discretion.

You probably support the REIN act, even though it's practical effect would be to prevent the government from ever adjusting to new or unforseen situations.

You can dress it up however you like but the bottom line is if you don't have the dosh you lose your rights. It's part of liberals war on the lower classes.

You mean how that same person still has his or her gun and is still collecting social security? Oh the horror. When will the oppression of gun owners end?

So people should have to sell all their guns when they retire? Sounds wonderful.

On Federal matters I expect the Congress to do its job. My problem has been the Feds getting larger and larger and the influence of the States getting smaller and smaller.

Hire competent people
Tell them their job
Hold them accountable
Get the heck out of the way
