Dr. Mrs. told me about some of the gallows humor that's being posted backchannel between the other agencies and the Bureau. I asked her to send me some so I could copy paste it here. There's one meme where agents are copying out the text of those mawkish Hallmark sympathy cards that get passed around when some anonymous co-worker's kid dies in a kiln explosion and rewriting them as Trump / Comey slash fiction.

It's actually really bad for Dump because the FBI was the only agency in the EOP where he had some support: LEO jar-heads who watch Fox and beat off to Sam the Eagle from the Muppets. But now that he's impugned one of their own he's become an enemy of the "band of Brothers" or whatever John Wayne delusion they're huffing.

There hasn't been a man as isolated and without a friend in this burg since Nixon.

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Thursday offered a new version of his decision to fire James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director, saying he would have dismissed him regardless of whether the attorney general and his deputy recommended it.

In his first extended comments on a move that has roiled Washington, Mr. Trump castigated Mr. Comey, calling him “a showboat” and “a grandstander” who had created turmoil at the bureau. But the president’s description of his decision-making process conflicted with the account provided previously by his aides.

The White House previously said that Mr. Trump acted only after Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod S. Rosenstein came to him and recommended that Mr. Comey be dismissed.

In the letter dismissing Mr. Comey that Mr. Trump signed, it said he was acting on their recommendation. But in an interview with NBC News on Thursday, Mr. Trump said, “I was going to fire regardless of recommendation.”

Hopefully he will be a one-off.

I mean think about it. He's nearly at the point where he's too big a piece crap for the GOP. Let that sink in. He's a combination of the political acumen of Tyler and the moral standing of Buchanan. It's not that he's the worst president in American history. He's homing in on the worst elected official in American history.

Firing Comey is going to have some serious consequences for Grabby Mc****face. All signs point to Comey being really well-liked in the FBI circles.

The other thing is Comey seems to be really hung up on his reputation, and Trump in his typical "turn on you for no reason and shred your face like a rabid hyena" mode is now smearing him. If Comey had damaging information on Trump that he was holding back on the grounds of decorum, he may come to believe he needs to be the Noble Whistleblower. It's all a question of which way he thinks he can cosplay Lucius Junius Brutus.

I'd say he should get a food taster between now and his testimony, but the FBI, CIA and DIA are all angry at Trump now so he might be the safest man in America today. Even you or I may be more likely to accidentally stumble over something we're not supposed to and "fall out a window."

The Rod Rosenstein is such an obvious lesson for anyone in this administration about how easily you are. Get drafted to write a memo and then get solely blamed for said memo. If you're not Ivanka, you're expendable.

I think that's why Trump is all bluster today. Word is Rod Rosenstein was a little ticked off he was being blamed for the firing. But, he did write the justification memo so I fail to understand his problem. His reputation is now complete **** so he's done as far as I or anyone else is concerned.

RUMINT: this is the firm.

I've never heard of them, but further rumor is the FBI operation is not local -- it is being run from DC, not B'more. Typically that's done if it's in conjunction with a different ongoing field operation.

WASHINGTON — President Trump plans to name Kris W. Kobach, the Kansas secretary of state who has pressed for aggressive measures to crack down on undocumented immigrants, to a long-promised commission to investigate voting fraud in the United States, a White House official said on Thursday.

The commission is the official follow-through on Mr. Trump’s unsubstantiated claim that several million “illegals” voted for his Democratic rival and robbed him of a victory in the national popular vote.

Mr. Kobach, who has championed the strictest voter identification laws in the country, will be the vice chairman of the commission, which is to be led by Vice President Mike Pence and is expected to include about a dozen others, including state officials from both political parties, the official said. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe an announcement expected later on Thursday.
