POTUS 45.08: Suckers

Re: POTUS 45.08: Suckers

CA moving to get back in the game.

California’s state Assembly and Senate both passed legislation Thursday to move the state’s presidential primary from June to March.

The legislation comes after complaints that the primaries came too late for voters to have a say in the contest, The Associated Press reported.

Both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were their parties’ presumptive nominees by the time Californians voted in 2016.
“We are dead last when it comes to our presidential primary calendar,” said state Sen. Ricardo Lara, who authored the Senate bill. “It’s time that Californians have a better voice in who is leading our country.”

They had been scheduled for 6/2. 3/3 is shaping up as Super Tuesday. The CA bills would move them to 3/17, 3/10, or even 3/3 itself. My guess is 3/10, which sets up 3 consecutive Tuesdays each with a whale (TX, CA, FL) and some small fry.

If everyone is going early, have the conventions in May and the election in July.

The current cycle is too long and has too many dead periods.

Or try this.

Divide the primary season into 17 weeks.
Week 1 is Delaware and the home State of the incumbent President.

Then for the next 16 weeks, 3 primaries a week in the order the State was admitted to the Union.

If the election is in July candidates will just declare the day after the midterms. We're stuck with an 18-month run-up until some candidate discovers that if they parachute into the process a week before NH they'll be the only one people aren't sick to death of.

And even then they'll still have missed out on a year of fundraising so, no, it will never stop.

Re: POTUS 45.08: Suckers

Keepin' it classy.

The first female White House chief usher left that position sometime before Friday morning, a rare turnover in a post marked by long tenures.

A White House official confirmed to TPM that Angella Reid “is no longer employed by the White House. We are very grateful for her service and wish her the very best.” They did not answer questions on the reasons for Reid’s departure.

The Washington Post, which first reported the story, said that the White House fired Reid. The Post noted that Reid was just the ninth chief usher since 1885, appointed by then-President Barack Obama in 2011.

(disclosure: I hate Wicked)

It's very uneven. Some lyrics are beautiful ("I'm Not that Girl") or hysterical ("Dancing through Life") but most are lazy, like they were rushed or mailed in. The score sucks throughout -- it's really bad.

I've never seen it, though, and rather famously the Set Design is usually the star of the show, so I've missed most of what makes the show distinctive.

Full disclosure: the woman who created the original set design concept is a friend of mine. But it's still true.

I'd just like to see all of the primaries done withing 2-3 weeks.

Since every state SHOULD have every candidate on the ballot- it sucks when the real list is only part of that by the time it gets to your state.

And having two very small population states be the first two filters for the ballot is odd.

BTW, for some interesting "resistance" videos, Oberman seems to have a lot of them, backed by GQ.

Not sure if they are any better than the other side, but since it's "my tribe" they are interesting. :)

Or at the same time. Just have all the primaries one weekend in the Spring, the general election one weekend in Summer, and the inauguration one weekend in the Fall.

Too complicated.

Hold an election.
If the big media conglomerates' (e.g. MSNBC, CNN) talking faces like the outcome (no long faces, no tears) we're done.
If they don't, do-over.

See? Easy-peasy.

And what if the incumbent is from Delaware? ;)

Meanwhile, the Worst and the Dumbest have another bad week.

Addressing a Tea Party group last year, the Times noted, Green said that a poll of psychiatrists would reveal “transgender is a disease,” and “we are back to where the country was at its beginning, and it’s the armed citizen who will defend this nation.”

Saying someone's mouth is a cock holster on broadcast television probably isn't a smart choice despite it being both hilarious and true. Slap them on the wrist and move on.

After 10 at night the rules really relax. He should be fine.
