Potsdam Bears 2013-14, Shiny new rink

Re: Potsdam Bears 2013-14, Shiny new rink

Birds,
The new rink isn't cold at all. The heating system in the rink is different, no more overhead contraptions. You should be comfortable, but after all it is an ice rink so dress accordingly. It will be Bears pride night and Military Appreciation night as well. Should be a good one!
Thanks for the reply. Sounds great!

I'll admit, I've never been to a Potsdam game before. Do they sell tickets in advance, or just at the door? If they sell in advance, is it already sold out? I obviously don't want to drive to Potsdam without a chance to get a ticket!

Should we tell him the good spots to eat or let him hit a gas station convenience store for nourishment?

Unfortunately, I won't be making the trek to the western half of the Diocese of Ogdensburg. I had misread the schedule at work, I will unfortunately be making somebody's $5 footlong while the game is being played... But Ducky will be on the radio, of course!

Just how big is the diocese? I never knew it went that far East to Pittsburgh.

Jefferson, Lewis, St Lawrence, Franklin,Clinton and Essex counties at least! May even take in part of Hamilton.

A map of the Diocese of Ogdensburg on wikipedia.

Random fact I learned a few weeks ago from a priest: When the diocese was being established, it was intended to be the northernmost part of NY as well as the part of VT north of Burlington, with the See being in Plattsburgh, not Ogdensburg. This intention was the reason St. John the Baptist Church in Plattsburgh, NY was constructed as a cathedral, but has never functioned as one. After the church was constructed, the decision was made to give all of Vermont to the Diocese of Burlington, and to place the See of this diocese in Ogendesburg (at the time, a major port city on the St. Lawrence).

Which explains why the See of this diocese is in a city that consists of a cathedral, 2 prisons, a mental health facility, and not a whole lot else... :D

Anyway, sorry for hijacking the thread.

Interesting note; a Potsdam Alum will be singing the National Anthem at this years Super Bowl. That's pretty neat!

Not to be outdone many Plattsburgh alum's will also be working this year's Super Bowl as well, as parking lot attendants, hot dog vendors, bathroom attendants, etc......:D (kidding)

Good find Bill! This will be one Super Bowl worth watching for the local connections.

Another tough night for my Bears as they were downed by a very talented Cardinal team by a final of 4-2. I thought from the outset Potsdam competed very hard and was unable to take advantage of some bad turnovers by the Cards. Cadieux was stellar for Plattsburgh tonight as he absolutely robbed Potsdam on some point blank shots.

It will be interesting down the stretch for Potsdam who is sitting in the 8th spot with 8 conference games to go. Especially with Brockport and 2 games with Moville on the schedule will see if the Bears can once again get hot at this time of season to once again squeak into the SUNYAC playoffs. If they can't turn it around quickly this could be Coach Bernard's 8th consecutive losing campaign and 8th time he couldn't get to double digits in the wins column. I for one would like to see him and them get to at least 10 wins this season.

I would not be surprised to see you achieve that. I was impressed with the team's effort and I don't really know why they haven't won more games. Good luck the rest of the way!

Re: Potsdam Bears 2013-14, Shiny new rink

Tough loss last night for the Bears. 4-1 to Bport and being that we are in the cellar, playoffs almost seem like a pipe dream. I have watched this team play all year and I am beside myself for answers. They work hard, they do the right things, and bad bounces just break our backs. I can only go by the shot totals from last night and it appears the Bears played well. For whatever reason this team is snake bitten when it comes to scoring. We need to find some quickly otherwise no playoffs at all. I wish I could say I was surprised by the Geneseo/ Plattsburgh game but I can't. Genny is a darn good team and Plattsburgh must have had an off night or Cadieux. Well let's see if the North Country teams can come back tonight with a pair......of wins.

Not having Nick Jensen in your lineup doesn't make things that much easier. The biggest way to decribe it was Geneseo played like it was a playoff game. Chewy had an "off" night where he looked human, but Houde wasn't much better. Taking 2 points from the Ice Knights tonight would be much appreciated.

Re: Potsdam Bears 2013-14, Shiny new rink

We will do what we can but Geneseo looks as strong as I have seen them in quite sometime. Don't forget about the other big matchup tonight! The Lady Bears travel to Plattsburgh to take on the Cards. The Lady Bears currently sit in 3rd place in the ECAC-W and are having one of their best seasons ever. Should be a good one!
