Potsdam Bears 2013-14, Shiny new rink

Re: Potsdam Bears 2013-14, Shiny new rink

Well lets see if the Bears can salvage this road trip with a win tonight at Cortland. From what I have been reading Cortland isn't all that bad this season. Let's see how they do tonight.

Hope they make it happen!

Re: Potsdam Bears 2013-14, Shiny new rink

Cortland has a really good power play hitting at almost 28%. If Potsdam can't stay out of the box, the Red Dragons will almost certainly make them pay.

Cortland was one of the most disciplined Red Dragon teams I've seen in a while for the first 50 minutes. The 5 minute major should have been a 2. Thwey worked hard, blocked shots, sacrificed, just ran out of gas.

Though the house security weren't that disciplined

Re: Potsdam Bears 2013-14, Shiny new rink

Well after the first semester's break the Bears showed no signs of the layoff. Talarico looked stellar between the pipes tonight for the Bears and congrads to Caligiuri for his first career hat trick! I was really proud of the boys tonight as they hustled and worked very hard for loose pucks. St. Anselm appears to be a fairly talented squad and it was nice to chat with Coach Seney prior to the game. And I am back as the Bears announcer....I knew I couldn't stay away. Round 2 tomorrow at 4pm.

Saints I have to agree with you on the hustle for that is why they won the game. The first 2 goals was the result of it. I would say the layoff has helped the Bears for this is the best they have played this year and they did play against a talented team. The best win for them so far only hope they can build on it. Also a good win for the SUNYAC conference as well.

Thanks for the comments. I couldn't agree more with you on this one. I saw some jump last night in the team that I hadn't seen in awhile. I have to keep my emotions in check sometimes because I tend to forget how much of an impact the loss of the International Grant had on the program. Essentially Coach Bernard was asked to rebuild a program from scratch due to that fact. Those recruiting areas that brought in good players are now gone unless the kid wants to pay a hefty price. It takes time to develop new recruiting strongholds. We aren't as fortunate as other successful programs who can rely on proven track record of success and identity. Hopefully we are starting to turn a corner here, having a new shiny rink helps with recruiting. It was great being back at the rink as well, I also forgot how much of a rink rat I am. LOL

Re: Potsdam Bears 2013-14, Shiny new rink

Thanks Norm! Great response tonight by my Bears. This is the first time in a long time since I have been able to say that the Bears dominated an opponent. The Bears were all over Skidmore for 59 minutes and then ran into some penalty trouble. A lack of discipline cost Shane Talarico the shut out. Hats off to the Coaching staff for the adjustments they made to the lineup tonight, I am really happy for Coach Bernard to finally see some of his hard work pay off.

Looking forward to the Potsdam game but was wondering, did they keep the overhead heaters ?? Is it cold in the new rink?

Re: Potsdam Bears 2013-14, Shiny new rink

Birds,
The new rink isn't cold at all. The heating system in the rink is different, no more overhead contraptions. You should be comfortable, but after all it is an ice rink so dress accordingly. It will be Bears pride night and Military Appreciation night as well. Should be a good one!

Re: Potsdam Bears 2013-14, Shiny new rink

Cards cannot take this game lightly. Semi-recent history shows us that they were 21-4 in 2007-08 and lost at Potsdam. The following year, they were 6-0 and Potsdam tied them, putting the first blemish on an otherwise fabulous season. They only have the one game next week. No reason not to play all out. Plus it's always worth the trip to grab a pregame meal at Sergi's !!

With the new seating configuration, what is the ticket availability like? I know the rink is usually pretty full for the plattsburgh game...
