Potsdam Bears 2010-11

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

[a whole bunch of unnecessary typing by cooperalls]

Are your fingers done typing?

What part do you not understand about the fact Potsdam will NOT schedule another exhibition game beyond the one. And that my friend was the only point I originally made.

BTW, I'll bet you a pretzel Potsdam doesn't even play Canton next year.

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

Stafford's a nice arena, but Wimbledon is louder than that barn.

I also wonder if Mr. Jaslow is secretly rooting for Potsdam to win. :D

the place is AWESOME, and I'm jealous, we had to play in a rink downtown my senior yr 87', due to renovations at Romney, but I think it brang the team together and we had a pretty good season.........

Fort Ontario, awesome rink. Many a 6am practice held there over intersession.

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

Well I don't know what to add to this thread as we are 5 pages deep and counting. I was able to attend a spirited practice this evening and the team appeared to be happy to be back at home. One game this weekend and as always a huge 2 points at stake. I still believe this team is going to create some problems in the League this season. Go Bears!

IMO, in my 25+ years of watching "North Country" hockey, the Bears at worst have always had the ability to prove the "any given Sunday" concept. Be it Norwich, Plattsburgh, Oswego, Adrian, Manhattanville, even once upon a time Air Force. Potsdam can NEVER be written off. Go Bears (except against Plattsburgh ;) )

Potsdam men’s hockey teams with North Country Savings Bank to fight cancer

...
The Bears hope to honor former teammate Antony Proteau, who died in 2009 after a battle with cancer in his brain stem. In one season of competition, Proteau tallied 10 goals and 10 assists in 23 games played.

"Community involvement is tremendously important to our program,” Potsdam coach Chris Bernard said. “After suffering such a tragic loss last season with the death of Antony, we thought that we should focus our energy on raising as much money as we could to help join the fight against cancer in our effort to honor a teammate and friend."

Beginning with the team’s home opener on Nov. 12 against Morrisville, the Bears, along with North Country Savings Bank, are asking for pledges for every goal Potsdam scores this season. Participants can also make a one-time donation online or via mail.

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

Great win tonight by the Bears tonight! A very emotional evening as the Bears honored #21 Antony Proteau in conjunction with the "Bears Stick It to Cancer" announcement this evening.
Morrisville was very impressive at times as well as Potsdam. Trevor O'Neil was stellar between the pipes tonight for the Bears. He was the difference. Well the Bears are off tomorrow and a hard working Morrisville squad heads to Plattsburgh. Not sure how much Morrisville will have left in the tanks if its a close game tomorrow night.

Very close SOG (Potsdam 32 - Morrisville 30), with both teams getting exactly the same in the second (9) and third (11) periods. Final Potsdam goal was an Empty Netter, Morrisville is quickly coming of age, while Potsdam is finding a way to get it done. Potsdam (and Canton) area native (Brasher Falls) and Clarkson grad Chris Bernard and Tim Crowley (also of Brasher Falls - population 2379) have much to be proud of, they are coaching a class act team, and producing nice results, IMO their future is looking bright, I am happy so far.

I'm thinking Cortland will provide some fuel for Morrisville's tank next Friday, maybe even enough that if Caylin Relkoff can hang 60, to force Oswego to see what they can do.

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

The Bears played with alot of jump last night and determination. But Morrisville plays hard and gritty, they didn't quit at all last night. Even though Morrisville came within one goal in the last 2 minutes of the contest, I felt confident that the Bears were going to win. I just wish there was a travel partner with Morrisville, one game a weekend of Bears hockey just isn't enough for me.

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

Tough loss to swallow tonight. The Bears were up 3-1 in the 2nd only to see Fredonia score 4 times in the period. The Bears were extremely physically this evening and it cost them with undisciplined penalties. I give Fredonia credit though, they worked hard, took care of their chances, and their tender is good. He makes the first save and the D either clears it or he keeps it. IMO, the Bears gotta stay out of the box. When the opposition goes 3 for 6 on PP, that demonstrates a problem. The worst part is Fredonia didn't do anything crazy on the PP, they ran an Umbrella and just fired the puck. Let's hope the Bears can get a win against Buffalo St., if not I think its going to be a long season for my Bears.

Re: Potsdam Bears 2010-11

Lets see Bears lose, Leafs lose, SU football is losing.....there truly is no joy in Mudville.
The Bears outshoot the Bengals 57-24 and still lose. From my perspective, the Bears didn't screen Carr enough and made him look better than he was. Not taking anything away from the kid, but when you stay as compact as him and every shot hits you, yeah you look good. We needed more traffic tonight in front of him.
The Bears have alot of talent. I am not sure why they can't put it together.
