The BEARS drop the puck on the 2010-11 season with Midnight Madness. Maroon vs White at Midnight (technically 12:01am). As part of tryouts, the team will play an intrasquad game during the earliest morning hours of October 15.

Wow! What a way to kick off the 2010-11 season! The Bears took the ice at 12:01am, in front of roughly 400 fans. From the opening faceoff the intensity was incredible. I couldn't believe how the boys came out and competed that hard. I saw some good things from some of freshman. The first game is next Weds., against SUNY Canton. If last years game is any indication it should be a packed house.

yea thats some funny stuff, I guess Canton will be watching in the stands.....How is Canton lately, I played with several players from there during my yrs at Oswego, my defensive partner played there for a few yrs, think they won the Championship 85 or 86........I digress..........good luck

Canton gave Potsdam a good game last year. Their tender was the biggest difference in the contest. I said it before and I shall say it again, its a "trap" game for the Bears. Win by alot and people will say,"well you should", and if its close....blah blah. I thought I heard SUNY Canton was progressing towards D 3 by 2012. I enjoyed my year with the Northmen in the early 90's. But its a different program now since JUCO is gone.

Division III level by 2016. This will require coordination and collaboration between athletics
and admissions to recruit more athletes to field an increased number of sports teams.
The College will also implement a series of programs aimed at increasing game attendance
and creating a culture where athletics serve as a focal point for campus spirit and pride.

Bears are back on the radio this year. 99.3 FM and also on the Potsdam Bearcast. We will have the SUNY Canton game on Wednesday on both the net and the radio. Last time I check the bear cast was working fine. And as always...pray the equipment works

As a new fan of Potsdam Hockey (since my wild encounters in Lake Placid with Saints17 et al), good luck from SNC Country! The Bears are now favorite team in the East.

Well the Bears won tonight 4-1 over SUNY Canton. The Bears outshot the Kangaroos 47-26. I liked what I saw at times from the Bears, as they carried most of the play for the game. I will definitely admit the goalie for the Kangaroos, Jimmy Merrow could play just about anywhere in D III. He committed robbery again at Maxcy Hall this year. Overall I will give the Bears a B- on this outing. Next weekend its off to Brockport and Geneseo.

They get a lot of students at games. I guess "fun" hasn't been outlawed at Potsdam.;)

Packed House...on a Wednesday night!? That place is slipping, or gaining interest in the hockey team! No way in hell we would have had a packed house to play Canton on a Weds when I was there.

The real question is how was Potsdam's goaltending? It has been their Achilles's Heel since Venturelli left in the early/mid 2000's. I figure with coach being a former goalie, and one who runs a goalie school he would be able to root out and recruit a top notch goalie. Just checked their roster, and they lost Crickard and did not replace him. They are running with the remaining 3 goalies from the previous year.

Would love to get to a game this year.....<checks scheduled> Nope not happening this year.

They had a few goalies on the radar but for whatever reason, things didn't work out. We still have Groulx, O'Neil, and a much improved McFarland. Coach Bernard has been working with the goalies before practice this year. He has alot of knowledge with the position. They will be better.
After witnessing some of the recruits that Coach Bernard and Coach Crowley brought in, I am extremely impressed. We just need one goalie to step up and be the man.
Our Defense looks solid in front any tender. If Patrick Choules doesn't win some post season awards I will be shocked. Game in and game out, this kid never gets beat to a loose puck nor does he ever pick a bad angle. IMHO, one of the top D in SUNYACs.
