Potntial Destinations for D1 Hockey Teams

Re: Potntial Destinations for D1 Hockey Teams

I agree with TheMick ... that would make a pretty good conference. I am less concerned with the survival of some of these programs in the AHA Eastern Bloc that have done nothing to try to improve over many years than I am seeing improvement in competitiveness (e.g., up scholie limits) of the AHA4. I would not be surprised to see them and BGSU-Ferris and maybe even LSSU continue to evaluate their conference options - though I think it much more likely that an outside impetus (read: UB) would make it happen.

we're sorry you're unhappy with the level of competition in the AHA.
BG is looking forward to a competitive and committed nWCHA, but we'll let you know if things don't work out.
don't hold your breath. ;)

Oh ... did not know that you speak for BG. Congrats to you ...

My Dad, back in the Day (LaGuardia admin) lived at 440 E 156th St. That sounds a bit south of you. However, Dad was Fordham '40
South of where I went to HS (BHSS), but I passed 156 St (the west part) on the way home as I lived in Queens. I was driven there in the AM.

What, the family chauffeur was busy in the afternoon?

Re: Potntial Destinations for D1 Hockey Teams

Liberty League + Colgate - Quinnipiac = Instant autobid. Add Niagara and Canisius and you get the ideal 8 team conference all in New York State.
For those not D-III inclined, that's RPI, UC, CCT, SLU, RIT, CLG

We'd need the Q for a couple years. You have to have six teams playing together for at least two years in order to get an autobid.

Re: Potntial Destinations for D1 Hockey Teams

Quinnipiac loves the ECAC and would never leave. The Ivies love the way Quinnipiac, Union, RPI, etc. have elevated the level of play in the league. It has become the best league in the nation. There would have been three ECAC teams in the Frozen Four if Union did not have to play QU in the East Regional. Ultimately, QU needs the Ivies to help raise its academic profile and the Ivies need Quinnipiac to become more powerful as a conference. It is a win-win! Go Bobcats!!! Beat Yale!!!

People always envision ideas of conferences but they forget about the hearts that are inenviably broken. We've seen so recently.

That being said, we are in a state of flux right now where people are unsure of loyalties... Just ride it out and try (institutionally) not to lose you wits or your heads.

It ended up being the best league in college hockey for this season, BUT that will be short-lived come this time next year.

Then how will the Big 10 and WCHA get auto bids next season? Five of the ten in the WCHA were CCHA members and three of the six on the Big 10. were as well?

Will the Big Ten have an autobid? I can't see how, nor have I heard that they will.

The WCHA is not gaining an autobid; they are maintaining their existing one. The rules are different.

I believe it's the grace period rule that the CHA had invoked, yes?

IIRC, no. Though I forget the exact rules and if the WCHA has enough Div1 members... So in some way it could be a legacy thing but its not quite like the CHA did with less than six members.

Now, NCHC does NOT have an autobid next season, yes?

Re: Potntial Destinations for D1 Hockey Teams

^So wait, there is question as to whether any Western league at all has an autobid? I hope none of them do. Imagine how awesome these boards will be next year if it's an all Eastern NCAA tournament :D

There is only one loyalty out there: to Mr. Franklin. Any other perceived loyalty can be dissolved at the drop of a hat.
