Politics in sports

Re: Politics in sports

The only football coach I personally know is a black friend from Queens who went to MIT. He's also a conservative (albeit a religious conservative, not particularly a fiscal one).

I doubt it's race, "intelligence," (whatever that means) or region. What's left?

It doesn't take tremendous powers of observation to see the "jock mentality" has a home on the right and the "nerd mentality" has a home on the left. However you want to classify it, the Venn Diagram of neuroses shows a lot of overlap: results-oriented, "doing," tactile, grounded; theoretical, "vacillating," cerebral, experimenting.

But like everything else it's probability clouds and you can always find the exception that proves the rule (like my friend).

Re: Politics in sports

The areas of the country where Football is more popular tend to be more conservative, especially if you look further back than a couple of years. The SEC, Big 12, and ACC are all located in fairly "red" regions.

Doesn't explain why the football team in my high school (and everybody else's) was right wing and the chess team in my high school (and everybody else's) was anarcho-communist.

Get a time machine and arrange and Bear Bryant/Bobby Fischer steel cage match.

Re: Politics in sports

I think you failed and acted intentionally obtuse and dishonest. If you think that there isn't at least one minority coach who wasn't hired because of his race...then you're downright crazy.

But not surprising, you started a thread to talk some ****. I mean, do you have any morals or do you just like being a troll? :D

How about that NFL rule where you HAVE to interview at least one minority coach? That's pretty racist, IMO. Racism does not equal prejudice against a minority.

IIRC, it was the Lions, when they wanted Mariucci, who "hired" him, then had to go back and interview a minority coach, and then hired Mariucci anyway.

As I've said before, the only way to eliminate racism is to stop bringing up race in every *ing situation. If you're a good coach, or could be a good coach, race will not stop you from becoming a coach. It's pretty simple.
