Politics in sports

Re: Politics in sports

Do you think a guy who wanted Lovie's job and was white wasn't hired because of his race?

Depends on if Lovie was hired because of his race, doesn't it?

Don't get out much, do you? Then again, there are very few non-white Minnesotans, so I forgive you.

Re: Politics in sports

I think you failed and acted intentionally obtuse and dishonest. If you think that there isn't at least one minority coach who wasn't hired because of his race...then you're downright crazy.

But not surprising, you started a thread to talk some ****. I mean, do you have any morals or do you just like being a troll? :D

I'll grant you "at least one". But the point was that there are overwhelmingly more politically conservative coaches than liberal. Almost all, in fact. I think there may be other factors at play besides these evil athletic departments around the country instituting racist hiring policies in tandem (with the assumption you're making, btw, that all white people must be conservatives). And yes, I am crazy.

Re: Politics in sports

This thread has degenerated nicely. Good job, geezer.

This thread disrespects Tom Brady by not including the amount of coaches who belong to the Tom Brady Party.

You should know by now that it's impossible to not disrespect Tom Brady.

That's surprising, since the political affiliations of sports coaches seemed like such an important and vital topic. (I mean really, was someone trying to combine the two topics - sports and politics - that cause the most arguments on here?)

Re: Politics in sports

I enjoy politics in sports like I enjoy politics in, well, politics.

Personally, I'm wondering the opinions of Canadian-born NHL coaches. That's the real important issue.

Re: Politics in sports

My view, after 10 minutes of consideration is that personality-wise conservatives make better coaches because they tend to feel more sure they are right, and are less likely to put up with dissent from their charges, and success in team sports relies on such dictatorship. In any color.

I see two pieces to this. One, conservatives tend to like physical activities...with hunting and fishing being just two examples. Liberals tend to like more mental or social activities. Football is a very physical activity. This thinking is both a broad brush and a hypothesis.

Second, to your point geeze, a football organization is very command and control. Its very similar to a military structure...as everyone needs to play a very specific part. This doesn't play as well with some liberals.

Edit: Race could play a role also...although my guess is that today its not as big as the numbers would lead you to believe.

All in all, I don't think the fact that the majority of football coaches are conservative is any major feather in the cap of conservatives...but thats me.

I see... so conservatives enjoy killing, and liberals are smart. :D
(mix politics and sports in an internet mosh pit, what could go wrong?)
I'm sure there's a religious factor in there too.

Re: Politics in sports

So, wait ... conservatives like fishin', football, UCF and wrasslin', and liberals like tai-chi, butterfly collecting, yoga and rythmic gymnastics? It must be just us moderates who like hockey and rugby ... ;)
