Please pray for Miami's Will Weber

Re: Please pray for Miami's Will Weber

Sounds like the surgery went well. From the Miami athletics Facebook page

"Will Weber is resting comfortably and doing well after taking a skate to the neck last night. He is expected to make a full recovery."

Re: Please pray for Miami's Will Weber

Wow, I never like to hear about stuff like this....I am glad to hear he is doing ok and will be fine.

Re: Please pray for Miami's Will Weber

Prayers for both the injured player and the guy who's skate caught his neck (who I would guess is feeling badly). Glad to hear things are turning out OK.

Re: Please pray for Miami's Will Weber

Best wishes to Weber. It certainly was a horrific injury. Glad to hear he is doing well and wish him a quick and complete recovery.

Re: Please pray for Miami's Will Weber

Sounds like everything went well with the surgery, prayers from Wisconsin. Get well soon Will!

Re: Please pray for Miami's Will Weber

I am so happy to hear that this young man is going to be OK. My thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Re: Please pray for Miami's Will Weber

Happened right in front of me, thanks to everyone for their prayers it was/is very scary. Pretty much what 628 said, will made a hit in the corner and bounced off and fell to the ice. The NMU player, didn't catch his name or number, lost his balance after the hit and fell over weber's back. The skate came down across his neck as he hit the ice. Lots of blood immediately, game was stopped to clean up the ice.

Haven't heard anything today on his condition but I do know he was alert and talking to his parents last night before surgery which is always a good sign as well as the fact that it missed his corroded artery.

Was talking with someone last night and thinking it is amazing that this doesn't happen more often, but thankfully it doesnt.

Thanks for the recap, that's what I was thinking b.c. that senario is less likely to make a deeper cut, worse case is a player or goalie laying on the ice in a scrum and someone accidently steps down on their neck.

How effective are neck guards? I remember wearing them when I was really little (hated them). The US doesn't require them, lots of youth leagues do though. For the most part teens and up don't wear them, In Canada I believe they are required up through major jr. hockey.

Re: Please pray for Miami's Will Weber

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery - too bad there is no way to integrate a neck guard into the chest pad or something like they have on the goalie's chest pad.
Prayers for both players involved in this incident.

Re: Please pray for Miami's Will Weber

Yikes that is scary. Hope he gets back in the game soon. The Redhawks will most likely be #1 this week.

Re: Please pray for Miami's Will Weber

Best wishes to Will + the rest of his team...that couldn't have been too pleasant to watch.

I think USA hockey did a study regarding neck guards and they found that a high percentage of neck injuries like this came even though the person was wearing one, and decided not to mandate them. I could be wrong though. Neck guards are so annoying though, it's like playing with a wet washcloth tied to your neck.

Obviously the most important thing by a long, long shot is that he's ok, but am just curious if everything went well in surgery could he return to action by the end of the year? The mental scar may take longer to heal than the physical scar.

Word is that yes, he could be able to return before the calendar year, so around 2 months.

Well wishes are much much appreciated from everyone!

You are correct about neck guards, they were not mandatory. Spoke with the the doctor who was at the arena and saw him immediately after and was told it wouldn't of mattered with the angle the skate came down.

Surgery did go well. If there ever can be, there were a lot of positives that happened last night to help make this horrific situation a lot better. 1. was the tremendous response by the doctors, trainers, and EMT at the arena. 2. was where the skate caught him, it got him just below the jaw line and missed his artery. The main injury was a deep laceration to the neck and cut mostly muscle. Time table for a return has yet to be determined, but it is thought he will play again this year. When he comes back is based on how the wounds heal. But lots of great news came after the fact which is good to see, this certaintly could of been a lot worse.

Again thanks to everyone for their kind words, I know the Miami community is appreciative.
