Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2014/2015

Some roster changes for the Cardinals second semester. Cardinals lose players in goal and on defense but add another blueliner.

Erin Brand has transferred to Plattsburgh from Syracuse.

Correct me if im wrong, but didnt they have just two goalies on the roster to begin the year? Tough row to hoe ahead with just one.

Which goalie left? I would presume that it was the sophomore?

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2014/2015

I always thought it must be hard for the nos. 2 and 3 goalies. They rarely/never see the ice in game situations, and never play in any meaningful games. Every now and again, they MAY be "thrown a bone" and allowed to start on a "cannon fodder" weekend. How can they stay motivated, and develop? It must be very frustrating to all involved.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2014/2015

So where did the transfers go, Bill? Seems you're going out of your way not to name to transfers out!

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2014/2015

Left for family and personal reasons. Not really hockey driven.

Too bad and best wishes. I only asked because I still follow former players even when they transfer out.

See by last night's score that the ECAC West has a new "Cannon Fodder" team! Chatham should be happy!

Yeah - Plattsburgh had to drop Williams and someone else from the schedule to fit in William Smith. As if their schedule wasn't already filled enough with walkovers....

I'm a bit shocked at where William Smith is right now. I figured they were going to get it going pretty quickly there. William Smith has very strong female athletic teams as does Hobart on the guys side.

If they aren't showing improvement next year it might be time for a change. That's a very good school, in a good location with a strong athletics tradition.

Prez, you're giving the new coach only 2 years to create a winner from scratch? That's a bit hasty on your part isn't it? What about how long the Cortland and Potsdam coaches have been in place and haven't been able to create winning teams? Let's remember the fact that some schools are simply never going to win in women's hockey. You of all people should know that. Not saying that's going to be the case at WS, so let's give them the appropriate 4-5 years to build.

And with all due respect to the Hobart men's team, up until 10 years ago they were pretty much a laughing stock in DIII both as a team and facility. You're dealing with 20 freshman female athletes. They need time. On top of that, if Hobart WS put a smidge of their budget into their hockey program as they do their football and LAX, say I don't know an arena with something other than metal bleachers, some rinky dink heater, and don't even get me started on the locker rooms.... I've seen a lot of new nice athletic and academic facilities open at Hobart, yet the only upgrade the city rink has received is inclosing the wall.....What Mark Taylor has done at Hobart with the lack of respect in my eyes from their athletic program says a lot. I really thought we'd see something after their run in '09, but nothing. I know there have been some grumbles at the rink this year with the new women's program, but I think it starts and dies right there at rink. As a proud GGYH parent for the next 14 or so years, I'd really appreciate it. It's not located at 666 South Exchange St for nothing.....not even the devil himself could warm that place up most days....

Should be teams, plural. Neumann has become an awful team the past couple of seasons. Cortland isn't much better. William Smith is brand new and should expect some standard growing pains during their learning curve in their first year, and Chatham is slowly improving.

Include Potsdam and Oswego in this group too. ECAC West had quickly become a two horse league. Too bad. Quality of hockey seemed to be ramping up, but now for some reason it's gotten weaker. The only challenge for Plattsburgh and Elmira lies outside the conference and in the playoffs. What has happened???

I agree that Potsdam is also a lower end team but I'd say Oswego is like Utica in that they have found ways to stay ahead of those other teams even though they can't find a way to catch up to Plattsburgh and Elmira. I think it's a case of the rich get richer - the programs that are supported the most are the best year in and year out.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2014/2015

FYI: Danielle Blanchard had a 21-20-41 line her rookie season in 30 games played. Cardinal rookie Kayla Meneghin currently has a 16-15-31 line after 16 games. Will be interesting to see where she ends up in points at the end of the season.

Hopefully she can keep up this pace when the REAL competition comes calling (this coming weekend). And next month.
