Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2014/2015

Include Potsdam and Oswego in this group too. ECAC West had quickly become a two horse league. Too bad. Quality of hockey seemed to be ramping up, but now for some reason it's gotten weaker. The only challenge for Plattsburgh and Elmira lies outside the conference and in the playoffs. What has happened???

I think Motz has done a good job at Buff State in only her 2nd year. This is really her first recruit year and the team is over half freshman.

Didn't Utica, Buff State, Neumann, and Oswego all get hit with sanctions in the last few years which caused them to lose a lot of Canadian recruits? I would say that Utica, Neumann, and Oswego are on the decline, but Buff State, Potsdam, and Chatham are all much stronger than they used to be. Aside from Plattsburgh and Elmira, any team can beat any team any night. I think that the league is actually getting better on average, but it will take a couple more recruiting classes for the new middle of the league to catch become competitive with Plattsburgh and Elmira.

With the addition of new D3 teams every year (aren't there like 4 new ones coming in next year?) D3 hockey will get watered down. It has happened to the mid-level teams, where potential recruits are going to start up programs instead. It just seems that the top teams are not losing any potential recruits.

Not impressed with the Cards goalie today. Poorly played shorthanded goal against. Short side top shelf was wide open and Hogan took advantage to make it 4-2 EC.

Another very weak goal against to make it 5-2 EC. She drops down way too soon every time. Other teams are going to take note of this and shoot high on her as well. You've got to think a lot of people are watching this game.

6-2 final score with an empty net goal to finish it out for EC. Wow!

Wow....team's got some work to do! Maybe playing some tougher competition outside the Conference might help. Too many cupcakes in the ECAC West right now.

Non Conference slate this season:

Elmira x1 (Their 11/30 game counts as a non-conference game)
Norwich x2
Gustavus Adolphus x1
Middlebury x1 (Yet to be played)
Manhattanville x1
Castleton x1

...how exactly would propose they change that to make for "tougher competition"? The 1st-placed teams in 4 different cobferences, llus 2 others. Manhattanville and Castleton are probably the closest to being duds on that list, and even they are really only 2nd-tier, not absolute bottom-feeders.

OK, she had an off day, but absolutely kept them in it Saturday afternoon. It's been my experience that most women college goalies go down too soon - my thought is that most of the women don't seem to be able to lift high shots effectively. Elmira got some shots up yesterday and you saw the results.

The girls were flat on Sunday. Hopefully they learn from this and bring forth a much better effort in Elmira in March.

Most players that know how to shoot prefer to go top shelf. Charron made a career of going top shelf and even when goalies knew that they still kept dropping into their butterflies because that's what they're being taught. If they stay up on those shooters they make pretty easy glove saves.
