Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

*stands up and claps* okay you're getting it...

Taylor Law, they have you by the ****. Isn't much of anything the Union (which is the employees) can do. We know the perception, and that's because crap like overtime numbers are spewed without knowledge of WHY. This isn't Teamsters and other Unions, maybe that's where you are going wrong. There is a lot of mismanagement, waste, and inmate perks....NONE of which NYSCOPBA has control over. Once again, NYSCOPBA does not create the jobs, give extra jobs, or put people in jobs. That's Building 2 (Albany). THAT is what you and Joe Public needs to understand. I understand the perception, and (tho sad to say) the Escape is putting a pretty bright light on all the cuts, procedures, perks that ALBANY let's convicts get away with. That was the big topic at work, what "good" will come out of this. BELIEVE me the majority of the BLUE LINE would love nothing more then Albany to open their jails up to the public so you could see where and what your hard earned dollars are going for. Unfortunately, its not just NY, its Nationally. Just today NYS adopted changes to their disciplinary policy that maximizes first time drug offenses (inside the jail) with a maximum of 30 days KEEPLOCK...not even in solitary confinement. It's also now the same 30 day max for assault on staff. Inmates can now kick the crap out of you, and as long as it's their first time they get to hang out in their regular cell for a maximum of 30 days. Once again, ALBANY NOT NYSCOPBA. I read the contracts that we have on our system for medical, construction, travel ect......if we cut those in half NYS would have millions of dollars to help schools and other necessary groups. But we can't, we have to give the states worst more and more and more while the rest of us scrape.

I'll say it again, if NYSCOPBA (which is nothing but CO's, voted by CO's, and ran by CO's) could change Albany, we would. Unfortunately once again, we don't make the rules, we just have to follow them.

Once again, the UNION is CO's. You're right the public cheered when we had to give furlough days to NYS...guess what, you gave us more OT, thanks. They cheered when Cumo closed prisons and took away jobs, guess what, because you closed down some posts inmates were able to dig out right under the tower you closed down. How's that working for you now?

CO Overtime is the LEAST of the money wasting DOCS/Albany/Public should be worried about/change. If we had real jails with chain gangs, jumpsuits, 2 meals, community showers, 1 toilet, little heat, little air conditioning, paid medical, paid dental, paid prescriptions, non-contact visits, no free college education, ...you know the things Joe Public THINKS these mutts get. Instead they will be watching the latest Netflix releases Friday night, eating their Perry's Ice cream on their double stuffed mattress, but then it's decision time, Netflix or NBA Playoffs. But maybe they are too busy playing their own basketball on a full sized basketball court complete with regulation nets and wireless shot clock and complete scoreboard, but you're right...my extra 8 hour shift I got last week because an inmate swallowed a bag of K-2 that he got from his visit the day before and I had to make sure he didn't poop it out and swallow it again is much much worse. Or the shift I got the week before that I had to cover the officer who had his head smashed in by an inmate because he didn't like the officers tone. That's NOT NYSCOPBA's doing, that's ALBANY....once again.

NYSCOPBA has to work on changing the public perception - I don't like the way the public perception is going - and no matter how true - things like this are NOT going to help - to Joe Public it sounds like a call for more money (and not for better management/reduced inmate perks).

If a bunch of Assemblymen get convicted, where are they sent?

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

Potsdam will beat Plattsburgh this upcoming season.........tryin' to change the mood around here....

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

Sorry I get a little passionate when people start spouting off about stuff they're not educated in after you try to explain things....

Actually it's DOCCS - Can't forget the Community Supervision piece HERE.

Yea don't even get mr started on that 5.4 million dollars to change letterhead/signs for an extra freakn C. Just like all the millions of dollars that had to be paid to switch everything from "inmate" to "offender" because inmate was to degrading. But we ruffle feathers over filling a first reaponse post with an Overtime body. By the way Ramadan is starting soon. 8 extra officers needed every day for their religious meeting in which white jewish inmates switch to Muslim 2 months prior so they get the extra food during Ramadan and then back to being Jewish a week later, because because we have to let them....and yes 4 to 6 of those jobs will be covered with OT, some jails its more than 8.

I fully understand about "people start spouting off about stuff they're not educated" which is of course the largest problem facing the CO's union - it is important that the leadership of the union be made up of CO's, but they really need a professional Public Relations staff - as is it is now, it is like having your doctor's receptionist do your surgery because she has worked there for years and is really popular in the office.

The validity of what the union says isn't the problem, it is their timing and delivery method. And it isn't the OT itself that's an issue, it is the handful at every facility who have to become outliers creating fodder for those who care only about the money.

Once again, speaking on something you're wrong about. The Union has hired and currently HAS a PR/Marketing group. Hence why you see billboards up in Buffalo, Syracuse, NYC area. Hence why I've seen more NYSCOPBA ad's on TV over the past 6 months then I did in my first 6 years. Not ONCE do you see "we need more money". All you see is "we need more bodies". Bodies to fill holes that have been created due to Albany's budget cuts. NYSCOPBA was kicked out of the State Fair booth a few years back, so instead they built their own where CO's stand there the entire day and answer questions and fix the crap that people "assume" about Corrections. So in short no, maybe you just need to open your eyes.

The validity of what the union says isn't the problem, it is their timing and delivery method. And it isn't the OT itself that's an issue, it is the handful at every facility who have to become outliers creating fodder for those who care only about the money.

What timing? The fact NYS says inmate assaults are on the decline, yet FACTS show its not and have actually become more violent with more and more "drug" offenders not in the prison so you're left with harden criminals?? You want to talk about the inmates that died recently at Fishkill and Sullivan in the news that Joe Public cried "inmate abuse" yet it was 2 convicts (1 strictly OD'd on K-2 and the other was high on K-2 and beat an officer in the head with a baton which gives ANY officer the right to use deadly physical force to make the inmate comply as per the US Penal Law and our own Use of Force Directive) but the media wanted to spin it off as "inmate abuse". LAWS protect the mutts from the truth coming out (a-la HIPPA and all the crappy school laws). NYSCOPBA can not, but the state CAN make statements about the incident yet they refuse to. Once again you're acting like this is Teamsters or some other Union. The Taylor Law really limits what can be published in regards to what can be said, and with that you have to have media in agreement to put it out there. The CO's at Clinton do a bike drive every year, yet it gets pushed to the side. Our own jail here sponsored 12 families from 4 local school districts raising around $7,000 and delivered toys/clothes to needy children. When we approached local tv, radio, media "oh sorry we can't make it".

And once again, I have NO clue what you're even alluding too in your last sentence. Not about OT? Outliers who only care about money? I'm not sure you do either....you pointed out the first time a nurse, A. Different Union, B. told you exactly why they got the $$. You pointed out a secretary, A. Different Union, B. told you exactly why they got the $$. You want to point out the guy who killed his wife? I can name you dozens of other "high profile" murders. As I said then, show me 1 Union that hasn't had a "bad apple" in their group. You've yet to come up with a good argument for anything except incorrect and assumed "facts" of our department....

They always appear to be whining - "we need more money" - "the state is doing, blah - blah - blah". Again, I point out the validity is not the problem, the public perception is - they do NOT have an effective professional Public Relations team - they have a public relations team that preaches to the choir and makes those who pay them "happy" - while ignoring what their mission needs to be - PUBLIC PERCEPTION. My undergrad & grad degrees and 30+ years work experience are in business, 20+ years of which are in management, I do know what I am talking about. As for knowing what it is like to be a CO, I graduated from Saranac in 1981, both my locally born parents come from families of 10 siblings, I have many very CLOSE family members that are career CO's - people I really care about - and people that trust me and talk sincerely and frankly about being on the "inside" - and people that I see working very hard and doing their best everyday - while their union - perhaps with the best of intentions - is screwing them over (in the long run).

An "outlier" in this case is someone who through their manipulation of a well intended system, pushes themselves to become a poster child of those who oppose their cause. (aka a Bad Apple)

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

I remember when this use to be a hockey site:confused: So with that in mind the NCAA also announced the event hosts through 2018 as the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y., will host in 2016 and 2018 and the Utica Memorial Auditorium in Utica, N.Y., gets the event in 2017. So take a trip to Lake Placid this summer and scope out your seat and catch some great hockey at the same time.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

For what its worth, Morrisville is listing Friday Jan 22nd as IN Plattsburgh, while the Plattsburgh schedule lists the game IN Morrisville....and vis versa for Saturday...Zero back to back home weekends, only 11 home games total (14 away/neutral). Disappointing Cardinal Classic (no offense to Naz/Colby/Fitchburg).

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

Doesn't the number of home games simply fluctuate due to playing Norwich and Midd. both on the road this year since both teams made the trip to Platty last year?

Yes and no. With Canton coming "in" they've given up their two home game (this years cycle) with Castleton and Skidmore. On top of that, this is also the odd year that they play on the road for the Primelink AND away games with Norwich AND Middlebury. I know the last time this happened Emery (while not much you can do) wasn't excited of all the road games, but it is what it is.

Emery is known for not being excited when he doesn't get his way.
