did they get a new rink? What did you guys think? I thought Saturday nights line up had a lot more pop. I know some would say "well it was Brockport" but that's not the same Brockport we are use to seeing. They nearly doubled their Canadian players. And how about that new building!!! It almost looks like someone wants to take Brockport hockey seriously.
did they get a new rink?
Very impressed with the new facility. Very industrial, metal, glass, tiered and bright. The rink is wrapped around the side of it. Beautiful building! The rink has new paint and more color. That's it. Agree with you, PSUC Champs.did they get a new rink?
I don't seem to find any on-line or phone options for purchasing Cardinal Classic tickets. Can anyone shine some light on the prospects for visitors' chances to score a couple of tickets?
Thanks ... I haven't been to the 'burgh since the NCAA quarter final when Mike MacNamara was resuscitated on the ice. Look forward to meeting a few of the Cardinal faithful. Lodging suggestions?
The PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout annually serves as a chance for Plattsburgh State to test itself against some of the best teams in Division III men’s hockey, but this year the tournament is also a chance for a little bit of redemption.
The Cardinals were upset by Geneseo last weekend before salvaging a split with a win over Brockport. They face No. 12 Middlebury in the first game today at Norwich’s Kreitzberg Arena.
“I think we’re looking to redeem ourselves after the loss last week and make sure we’re working hard,” Plattsburgh defenseman Mike Grace said.
No. 2 Norwich hosts No. 11 St. Thomas in the second game tonight. The consolation game is Saturday afternoon, followed by the championship tilt.
Plattsburgh had developed a habit of getting off to slow starts in games, and Grace said that caught up to them against Geneseo, which jumped out to a 2-0 lead and eventually won 3-2.
“We were getting away with stuff in the first period, not having to work hard,” Grace said. “It finally showed that we gotta work hard, and talent isn’t going to take us all the way.”
No. 5 Plattsburgh (5-1) and Middlebury both feature young players. While four of the Cardinals’ top five scorers are freshmen or sophomores, the Panthers have four freshmen at the top of their scoring list. Forward Matt Silcoff paces Middlebury with a goal and two assists in two games.
Junior Nick BonDurant has handled the Panthers’ goaltending duties, and he sports a 2.88 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage.
“Middlebury’s a good hockey team,” Plattsburgh coach Bob Emery said. “We’ve heard they have a great freshman class. It will be a good test for us. We’re young, too.
“And I know some of the kids they brought in; they’re pretty good. They’re going to look to be a skating team, move the puck and be gritty around the net.”
The Panthers (1-0-1) just opened the season last weekend with a tough NESCAC road trip. They beat Colby 5-2 on Friday and then scored twice in the third period to tie Bowdoin 4-4.
“I’m hoping to take advantage of that. If we have anything on Middlebury it’s just the fact that we’ve played a few more games than they did,” Emery said. “Because they’re going to be one of the teams to contend at the end of the year.”
Norwich, which won the tournament last year, has started this season with five straight wins, including victories over St. Anselm and New England College last weekend. St. Thomas (5-2-1) is coming off of a weekend sweep of fellow MIAC member Gustavus Adolphus.
Emery said the Cadets probably get the nod as the favorites this weekend.
“Norwich has that big senior class; when they were freshmen they won the national championship. They have some guys with NHL potential in that class,” Emery said. “So we’ve got our work cut out for us with anyone you play in this tournament.
“It’s by far the best tournament in Division III. It is each and every year, and we’ll just go over there and hopefully we bring a little more toughness and a little bit more grit and play hard.”

Brand new Hampton Inn right up the road too.... Stay away from Uno (next door) however! Terrible service and even worse owner that we need to run out of Plattsburgh. This is my opinion of course!

Im curious to see how Bob juggles the lineup this weekend ,
Will Bob mix and match based on the team he plays or is the line-up settling in and now you just need to get
some chemistry and consistency between the lines .
If Im a player who is feeling a little bit left out (unless Im a senior) do I begin to think maybe this wasn't a
good choice and start thinking about transfer options.....
Good Luck running him out of town.....but I do agree! He owns the Hampton too!...as well as the Micro-Tel. They were supposed to build a Fairfield as well, but that has yet to happen. The family has owned that whole section of Routre 3 for ever!!! I could tell you about my experience at UNO and why have not returned since! But this is not the place...Brand new Hampton Inn right up the road too.... Stay away from Uno (next door) however! Terrible service and even worse owner that we need to run out of Plattsburgh. This is my opinion of course!
NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team paid the price for a slow second period as the Cardinals dropped the opening game of the 2012 PrimeLink Great Northern ShootOut, 3-2, to the Middlebury Panthers at Kreitzberg Arena on the campus of Norwich University.
The game opened with a face-paced first period, allowing Plattsburgh State (5-2-0, 5-1-0 SUNYAC) to use its quickness to generate a number of good looks, including a great shot from Nick Jensen that was denied by Panthers’ goaltender Nick BonDurant. The Cardinals were finally able to cash one in late in the period, when Andrew Smith dropped a pass for Jared Docking, who had just crossed into the Middlebury end. Docking fired a slapshot that beat BonDurant to give Plattsburgh a 1-0 lead with 3:59 remaining.
The second period proved to be the exact opposite of the first as Middlebury (2-0-1, 1-0-1 NESCAC) controlled much of the play. The Panthers tied it at 1-1 when Derek Pimentel knocked home a rebound at the 11:17 mark. Riley Dickie and Thomas Freyre picked up assists on the goal.
Middlebury rookie Evan Neugold gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead with 4:39 left in the middle period, making a move around a Cardinal defender and lifting a shot over Plattsburgh goalie Mathieu Cadieux’s shoulder.
The Panthers had another golden opportunity early in the third period with a 2-on-1 but Trevor Pollock’s shot went high over Cadieux. A minute later, back-to-back penalties opened the ice for a 4x4 opportunity and Middlebury quickly made it 3-1 with a goal by George Ordway with 5:51 gone in the third.
With 11:55 remaining in regulation, Plattsburgh State cut the deficit to 3-2 on Alex Brenton’s fourth of the year. Brenton took a cross-ice pass from Patrick Jobb and beat BonDurant on the back post.
The goal gave the Cardinals a boost of momentum for the remainder of the third but Plattsburgh was unable to find the back of the net. Later in the period, Ryan Farnan had a chance to net the equalizer but Farnan’s shot was stopped by the left pad of BonDurant. Docking was also battling to score the game-tying goal, but his shot from the middle of the far circle was blocked by a Middlebury defender.
The Cardinals finished with a 25-21 advantage in shots on goal. Both squads went 0-for-3 on the power-play.
BonDurant turned away 23 shots to improve to 2-0-1 on the year. Cadieux recorded 18 saves in the loss, dropping to 3-2-0 for the Cardinals.
With the win, Middlebury will advance to the championship game of the PrimeLink Great Northern ShootOut, which is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at Kreitzberg Arena. The Panthers will draw the winner of the Norwich and St. Thomas matchup later this evening. The loser of tonight’s game will face the Cardinals in the consolation game at 4 p.m. Saturday.
