Plattsburgh State Hockey 2011-12 - The work and progress continue..

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2011-12 - The work and progress continue..

I am looking forward to the Norwich/Plattsburgh game Friday and in taking a look at Plattsburgh I noticed there goalie transfer from Quinnipac Mathieu Cadieux is 3-1with a SV% of .938, GAA 1.78. Outstanding stats in my book. It interesting that this will be the second weekend in a row Norwich has played a team with a highly rated D1 transfer. NEC goalie Shawn Sirman transfered from U of Maine.

No doubt. Always good to see how the Redbirds do in the Primelink after the first few weeks of SUNYAC games. I'll be interested to see how Morrisville fares in their Vermont tournament. SUNY-ECAC/NESCAC matchups are always intriguing. Maybe Emma could line up St. Mike's for next year and provide the Card faithful with another easy road trip?

I wasn't impressed with sirman on Friday. Thought the St A goaltender was better Saturday.

Doesn't do platty much good to play st mikes. Game doesn't mean anything NCAA wise and they could easily find a team that could provide stiffer competition.

Not to put down Mat either...but really who has he played? He looked shaky against Morrisville for the first 20 minutes....beat a Brockport team who no matter what Saints says is not good....and a Geneseo team that is beyond lost right now. He also gave up one of the ugliest goals in Buff State that could have easily had Plattsburgh still undefeated in SUNY. Having said that, if he can keep those stats close over the next 5 games (Norwich x2, Midd/Elmira, Oswego,Cortland) then Ill be content to say Plattsburgh has something special on their hands.

Sirman looked pretty good but his D-men did a Horrible job of cleaning out the front on rebounds and Cadets cutting to the net....

Have to say, Mat made about 4or5 excellent, difficult saves in the game last night. He is beginning to show his ability and I hope it continues. As, you said, we'll find out soon enough.

The highlight replays are asking for a password?

Just hit cancel (it will automatically go to "read only mode"). Note also in true theater fashion, the "main event" is preceded by a promo - simply slide the viewing tab all the way to the right, let the buffer catch up, and it will (eventually) go to the game you want to watch.

The highlight video that is on the site is from the 2009 Tournament. hopefully they add the 2010 Tournament highlights soon!!!!

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2011-12 - The work and progress continue..

My younger brother, who has an internship at Plattsburgh State with Jason Pachter, just texted me saying that Patrick Jobb may have a "fractured foot or a bad bruise."

He noted that it has been bothering him for awhile, and he's on his way to get X-Rays right now.

Patrick mentioned something about it on Twitter three days ago. He must have done it in practice late last week?

Cards open PrimeLink vs. Cadets
{Article from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican - Nov. 25, 2011}

The first game of the 2011 PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout will be Plattsburgh State's first meeting with Norwich since the Cadets ended the Cardinals' season in the NCAA Division III quarterfinals last year.

That adds some extra motivation to a tournament that the Cardinals already look forward to each year.

"Oh yeah. I'm sure it goes for everybody: We definitely want to beat these guys real badly," Plattsburgh senior Kyle Kudroch said. "It definitely took something special from us, and to beat them would be awesome.

"Norwich is definitely in the back of our heads, but winning is first priority."

Plattsburgh won the whole thing last year at Stafford Arena. The 14th edition of the annual men's hockey tournament will be at Middlebury's Kenyon Arena. After the Cardinals face the Cadets this afternoon, Middlebury will play Elmira. The winners will clash in Saturday night's championship game, following the third-place contest.

The Soaring Eagles are making their first appearance as the invitational team. The tournament typically includes a western team, but Plattsburgh coach Bob Emery said no one would fly east this year because of the economy. Emery added that a team from the West has already been secured for the 2012 event.

Plattsburgh, ranked sixth in the USCHO.com Division III Men's Poll, is coming off a pair of SUNY Athletic Conference wins last week. The Cardinals (5-1) have yet to face a ranked team, but they'll see two this weekend — all four squads are in the current poll, including No. 1 Norwich.

"It's gonna be a battle," Kudroch said. "These teams are really good. And it's going to show what we're all made of by the end of this weekend."

The Cadets, who scored late in overtime in last year's playoff game after the Cardinals tied it with 24 seconds left in regulation, beat two ECAC East opponents last week to improve to 4-0 this season.

Their roster features two of the top scorers in Division III so far. Sophomore Travis Janke has a 4-9-13 scoring line in just four games, and junior Kyle Thomas has five goals and six assists. Pier-Olivier Cotnoir (eight points) is also in the top 10 in points per game.

The Cadets are averaging 5.75 goals per game.

"Norwich is a very opportunistic team," Emery said. "They've got some real good forwards that can finish and play good offensively. And we know that. We know them pretty well.

"Games like this come down to goaltending and defense, like most games today in hockey. But these games really come down to goaltending and defense."

Norwich boasts the most productive power play in the country. It has netted eight goals with the man advantage and has been scoring on 36.4 percent of its opportunities.

Plattsburgh answers with one of the better penalty kills, ranking fourth in Division III with a 91.3-pecent success rate. But the penalty killing units are little used — Plattsburgh is currently the second-least penalized team in the nation — and Emery would like to keep it that way.

"I like our team's depth this year. I think that's real important," he said. "So we gotta stay out of the box and keep four lines and six defensemen going."

No. 11 Middlebury began its season last weekend with wins over fellow NESCAC foes Colby and Bowdoin. Senior Charlie Strauss accumulated seven points in those games, giving him a Division III leading 3.5 points-per-game average.

No. 10 Elmira (4-2), which plays in the ECAC West, has won its last four after opening with a pair of losses to Oswego. Kevin Willer leads the team with nine points.

just watched Norwich /Plattsburgh , WHAT WAS THAT ? Plattsburgh was a no show !

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2011-12 - The work and progress continue..

I'm going to say this, and then go clean my mouth out with soap...

Plattsburgh was easily the worst team on the ice last night (based on actual performance... potential not taken into account). They need to play better than that in the defensive end. WAY too many giveaways. Norwich effectively disrupted their dump/chase/cycle style, and it looked like they had no plan B, or at least they hadn't effectively practiced plan B all that much.

Middlebury started out slow last night, whereas Plattsburgh was definitely flying for 60 minutes. If that happens again today, that might be the cards' only saving grace. But if they don't step it up, they WILL place 4th in this tournament.

It was more like Norwich's forwards played much better than P'burgh's defensemen. The other end of the ice was a stalemate.

Kyle Thomas is a stud ... All-American in my book from only having seen him in person once.

And this was an average game for Kyle. He makes the kind of chances that he had yesterday all the time - the difference is that he converts them on a regular and yesterday he only created scares because he lost control of the puck or his passes missed.
