Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

I am not aware of exactly what happened with the whole Clukey situation, being away from the campus and stuff, I'm out of the loop. I am aware, though, that "discarding" him (if this is what happened) is a huge mistake. I happened to be fortunate enough to also have a very positive relationship with him but with the personal bias aside, his music and organ playing was a staple for years at the Staff. It was like second nature for Card fans alike. I agree, if it happened this way, its wrong; he should be celebrated. He was extremely passionate; the music he used to play were clips he worked on himself for the games. People who have an understanding of music and editing will appreciate the hard work he put in.

I have previously worked with Tim and Norm. (Ya, In the world of TANDY) I previously mentioned this, but maybe it wasn't clear. I saw Tim the night before the regular home season started at Arnies Restaurant. We were talking about the new and old Stafford and through conversation Tim simply put it: "I was told my services would no longer be needed" and that "We have a Pep Band"

Cardinals defeat Potsdam on ice - {Article from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 12/4/2010}

POTSDAM — The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team followed up its championship in the PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout with another strong performance Friday night.

Eric Satim scored the first two goals of the game and the Cardinals skated to a 4-1 win over Potsdam in State University of New York Athletic Conference play.

"It's a tough place to play and it was a big league win for us," said Plattsburgh State head coach Bob Emery.

"We can't do anything about the losses we've had so far. But, we now have a chance to end a decent semester with a win at Skidmore on Tuesday."

The Cardinals (6-4, 4-4), who won for the fourth time in a row, finished with a 47-19 advantage in shots on goal, including a 27-3 edge in the second period when the Plattsburgh State broke a 1-all tie and scored twice.

"We played really well in the second period and played a lot in the offensive zone," said Emery.

"Both goalies played great games. Josh Leis made the big save when called upon for us. And, their goalie (Trevor O'Neill) made some quality saves."

Leis finished with 18 saves and O'Neill turned back 43.

"Even with the shots on goal we had, we had some of our best chances miss the net," said Emery.

Satim gave the Cardinals the lead with 3:59 gone in the game.

"It was key for us to get the first goal — that was a feather in our hat," said Emery. "We haven't been getting the first goal in a lot of games this season."

The Bears (3-6, 2-6), however, tied it on Brandon Couto's goal at the 14:37 mark.

Satim then put the Cardinals in front to stay, at 2-1, with a power-play goal just 33 seconds into the second period.

Kyle Kudroch made it 3-1 with 3:32 remaining in the stanza.

Plattsburgh State finished off the scoring at 16:26 of the third when defenseman Barry Roytman tallied his first goal as a Cardinal.

"We had some guys who played hard, like Satim and (Vick) Schlueter, who won a lot of loose pucks," said Emery.

"We controlled play for the most part and we improved on not making mental mistakes, even though we're not there yet."

Looks like Emery went to the the thesaurus, but he didn't exactly say "We are still a work in progress." ;)

Also, would Emery ever be this candid? ---> Cards catch break in Norwich (Women's hockey head coach Kevin Houle)

A bit off topic, but Houle did describe the game exactly as it was...

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

"The new Stafford Ice Arena may be more aesthetically pleasing, but we at Cardinal Points are hearing more and more about negative fan experiences. The new pep band is not loud enough, the music selection is poor, the scoreboards are still not functional and the atmosphere is dead during game play — no more boisterous "Let's go Cards!" chants are heard during the game."

Well, it has certainly caught the attention of the student newspaper. I wonder what Brucey is going to say/think when word gets to him about the "negative fan experiences"?

Deny it just like always....because the "majority" of the fans have no issue and think the arena is the best thing since sliced bread and cream cheese.

Hockey Cardinals look to end semester on high note - {Excerpt from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 12/7/2010}

The end of the first semester will feel a lot better for the Plattsburgh State men's hockey team with a win tonight.
...
"We got ourselves behind the eight-ball and there's even more emphasis now on our non-league games," said Plattsburgh State head coach Bob Emery.

"It's a real big game for us. It's a big game because we want to keep it rolling and also to end the semester on a good note. You're only as good as your last game."

The Cardinals have won their last four games, including a 4-1 State University of New York Athletic Conference win at Potsdam last Friday.

But, Emery is expecting a tough game from the Thoroughbreds.

Skidmore is 2-0-1 in its last three games and recorded a 7-6 overtime win over Bowdoin last Friday and then skated to a 3-all overtime tie with Colby on Saturday — both coming at home.

"We can't afford any more hiccups," said Emery. "We went down there two years ago and they beat us. They have given everyone a tough game this year and can beat anyone.

"Skidmore is a little like Middlebury in their style of play. Their coach, Neil Sinclair, was at Middlebury and Skidmore is well coached. They're pretty disciplined and tough at home."
...
"The players are feeling really good, but they have to make sure they come to the rink ready to go," said Emery. "We won the game against Potsdam not because we scored four goals, but because we kept them to one. That was the key.
"I know it's a cliche, but we do have to take it one game at a time. We have to take care of business. We can't do anything about our past losses."

Plattsburgh State comes into the game in good shape physically.

The Cardinals finish the first semester at 7-4. They are currently sitting on a five game winning streak.

Your thoughts on the first semester?

Clearly they are a work in progress, as long as the work stoppage doesn't set them back, they could go-all-the-way  ;)

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

I attended the game @ Skidmore, and I was impressed with how the Plattsburgh players seemed to know where Skidmore was passing/ placing the puck, especially on the penalty kill. constantly one step ahead of the play. Skidmore was game, and their goaltender was solid, Platsburgh was simply the better team.

Cardinals finish semester strong - {Article from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 12/7/2010}

No that didn't come from the bus driver...

The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team is entering the break feeling a lot better than it did a couple of weeks ago.

The Cardinals (7-4 overall) ran their winning streak to five games with a 4-1 non-conference win at Skidmore College Tuesday night.

"It's good to end the semester with five wins in a row," said Plattsburgh State head coach Bob Emery. "The players can go on the break feeling good about themselves.

"They have been playing well lately and not feeling a lot of pressure. They're having more fun — and fun comes with winning. Still, they are busy with school work and we have some sickness going around. So, the break comes at the right time."

The Cardinals took a 2-1 lead into the third period before Kyle Taylor scored his first goal of the season, at 11:20, to give Plattsburgh State a 3-1 edge.

Matty MacLeod then added an empty-net goal with 17 seconds left to finish off the scoring.

The Cardinals played real well in the period, outshooting the Thoroughbreds (3-4-1) by a 15-2 count.

"We kept their shots to the outside and wide in the third," said Emery.

The Cardinals held a 1-0 lead after one on Dan Sliasis' goal.

Plattsburgh State then struggled some in the second period while getting outshot, 10-8, in the stanza.

But, the Cardinals still managed to take a 2-1 advantage out of it, with Kyle Kudroch scoring for Plattsburgh State at 8:11 and Vlad Gavrik a power-play goal for Skidmore.

Plattsburgh State goaltender Josh Leis made some key saves to keep his team in the lead.

"We played well in the first and third periods," said Emery. "But, for two five-minute intervals in the second period, we didn't play well at all and didn't play with composure.

"We panicked and got caught running around. But, that's when our goaltender rose to the occasion. He made some big saves when he had to."

The Cardinals finished with a 37-18 shot advantage, with Leis making 17 saves and Skidmore's Colin Bessey 33.

During Plattsburgh State's five-game winning streak, the Cardinals have allowed two or less goals in four of them.

"We know we're going to generate a lot of offense," said Emery. "We have to keep the puck out of our net and we have been doing that lately.

"We want to keep our goals-against to around two."

Plattsburgh State is now idle until hosting the Cardinal Classic on December 31-January 1 at the Stafford Ice Arena.

The Cardinals will play Curry College at 4 p.m. on Dec. 31. Neumann College and New England College are the other two teams entered.
