Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Between watching the Primelink via Primelink and listening to Ducky, the arena music has taken a huge hit. I think arena music is definitely taken for granted when it comes to hyping up a crowd. When I was there, the "organist/music person" was terrific. He did a great job not only picking great spots to use the organ, but picking great spots to use certain types of music. This weekend, the arena, at one point, sounded like a church, with that crappy music that was being played over and over. I understand there is a band now, so there is no need for the organist (don't agree), but bringing the organist/music person back this weekend when there is no band is a necessity. I'm also disappointed I didn't hear Mad Dog on the sound system. He was great at capturing the crowd. I'm really glad I don't have season tickets there anymore.

As I reported in an earlier thread, the organist was told his services would no longer be needed before the season started. "We have a pep band"

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

1. Congrats to the Cards! A great weekend of hockey at the Stafford.:D

2. The music at the Prime link sucked!

3. :mad:When are they going to get the scoreboards fixed? I had a few visitors ask if it was a temporary glitch and if it would be fixed before the end of the tournament. This is the start of our second season with these pieces of #*+#. Why can,t they be fixed? Did they come with a warranty or did the by them off a guy selling scoreboards out of the trunk of his car? Is the old scoreboard still around and usable? We have a great arena; but I am wondering if the old board they are using now dies if they plan on just putting up a chalk board and changing the stats as they go. Does anyone know the answer to the scoreboard or is it "work in progress."

The scoreboards are indeed still under warranty. The control panel has been replaced 3 times, some other parts have been replaced many more times, and then this weekend they tried hard-wiring in these wireless scoreboards. Somebody from Fair Play has been at the Stafford for 2 week working on the issue. According to the company, they've never had reports of any problems after taking that step...

Fair Play has provided all of the scoreboards and some other sports technology on campus, and these scoreboards in the hockey arena are the only ones with any issues.

And yes, the old cube scoreboard is still in storage, and probably usable, at least on a temporary basis. The reason they replaced was not aesthetics, but rather simply because the company went out of business, and so compatible replacement lightbulbs are no longer available anywhere.

Thanks for the info. I would think after all you said the boards have had done that the best solution would be to replace the boards with new ones and send the old ones back to Fair Play. Let them fix them and send them back if they find out the problem. At least we would have a board while waiting. There are only three dates for games in December. Lady Cards on the 11th and 12th and the Cardinal Classic on the 31st. So lets hope they get them fixed before the tournament.

The new rankings are out.

I get it. Buffalo State killed Plattsburgh. But tell me how after last week when Buffalo State and Plattsburgh had the same number of votes last week, that Buffalo State then cracks the top 15 this week after beating Skidmore and Southern Maine when Plattsburgh beats the nation's No. 1?

In my line of work, I quite often deal with similar interactive displays, primarily by Spectrum and occasionally Mikohn, in over 6 years I never seen, nor heard of a problem as messed up as this. After the third service call, all of the electronics should have been replaced, with the defectives sent to their in-house QA (Quality Assurance). This is extremely poor service; I cannot imagine any private companies coming anywhere near the tolerance that has been shown to Fair Play (the most ironic of names). Someone needs to put their foot down and demand they by replaced, the companies that I work for would not have needed to be asked, it would have been done. I would love to hear a justification of the situation.

I'm stunned Plattsburgh is out. Didn't see that coming at all.

Yeah, I wouldn't think playing "nah, nah nah nah goodbye" with a minute left in a one goal game against a good team is the greatest idea.

I was sitting there on Saturday night praying to the hockey gods Norwich would level the score because of that blatant no-no in the karma rule book.

I don't believe the person in charge of the noise selections could actually hear what was being played - at least I hope not - or maybe, they wanted to make sure they wouldn't be asked to do it again - or maybe still and in retrospect, it is likely, that Bruce himself was playing them :o :o

The music selection is a prime example of whats been going on since Brucey arrived. Plattsburgh kills off a full 2 minute 3x5 shorthanded situation with the 3 Cardinals being out there for the majority of the full 2 minutes, the players skate to the bench, the crowd is going nuts, and what gets played.....Garth Brooks Long Neck Bottle.....for freakn real? I think that was the only hockey game Ive gone to and heard soft soothing country love songs being played during a freakn game!! Brucey obviously does not want the crowds that we use to have back in the early mid 90's. I can tell you this, if Brucey pulled this stuff back then, he would have been forced out, period. His time is coming, just like every wheres else he's been.

There is a very strong possibility Bruce did not select the music, nor is in charge of what music is being played. I can say one thing though...knowing what goes on, i'm surprised that the person or people who SHOULD be in charge of the music would let that happen. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that na na na na goodbye is not a good idea at that juncture of the game, as well as long neck bottle. In my day, that would get played once, and it wouldnt happen again or someone would lose their job.

You and me too!! Well, I guess that MadDog is ill and the students were not there so the pep band was out. The week before, it was rocking where I sit near the students. They have been turning out big time and making real noise! They gave out t shirts and red facecloths, painted faces, bodies and really got it going! The pep band is loud and good too! I really think things are picking up and I really think they are trying. Signs were also up on Rugar St. last week before the Freddy game. Keep it up next semester!!!

SUNYAC honors 2 Cardinals - {Article from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 11/30/2010)

The State University of New York Athletic Conference has named Plattsburgh's Eric Satim and Nick Jensen the SUNYAC player and rookie of the week, respectively.

This marks the first such honors for any member of the men's hockey team this season.

Satim, a senior forward from Montreal, was named Tournament MVP after leading the Cardinals to the PrimeLink Great Northern ShootOut Championship this past weekend. On Friday, Satim recorded a goal and an assist in a 7-4 win over St. John's. In Saturday's championship game against No. 1-ranked Norwich, Satim tallied the first goal for the Cardinals at 2:04 of the second period. The Cardinals went on to defeat Norwich, 3-2, handing the Cadets their first loss of the season.

A freshman forward from Helsingborg, Sweden, Jensen netted a power-play goal at 13:19 of the third period to tie the game at 2 and swing momentum Plattsburgh's way against Norwich in the championship game. Jensen also assisted on the first goal of the game.

The win was the third-straight for Plattsburgh, which claimed its first Shootout title since 2007.
