Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Financial Aid....that and I think the US Junior systems are getting better. Also with Oswegos Aid package, its hard to compete.

Thanks for the input, that makes sense. As I said, it doesn't seem to be affecting Plattsburgh's talent level. Emery (and his Assistants) has made a nice recruiting transition.

Thats why a lot of us long time Cardinal Fans think last year was one of, if not, the best coaching jobs Emery has ever had. With all the sickness, suspensions, and injuries....combined with a young, less talented teams Emery has ever had.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

i think he has rebounded tho with this class alot of talent coming in..... and i think we hve another forward to get but not too sure tho

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

 You don't think the players had a little bit to do with their success? I don't care how good the jockey is, you can't win without a good horse.:p

But even a good horse still needs a good stable and a good jockey. ;)

I don't think anybody meant to suggest that. It's not a case of a talentless bunch being coached to a national Final Four... it's more a case of an above-average talented team being coached to a national final four with, and in place of, a number of VERY talented teams. The teams that Emery has had success with in the past were all loaded with individual talent. This team, while significantly above the DIII average in talent, was miles behind some of those teams. That, among other things, led to their defeat in Lake Placid. This year's recruiting class looks to be making up that difference, and that (coupled with the roster vacancies of certain other teams) means that this could very well be the year plattsburgh gets <strike>#4</strike> #3. :D

Am I saying Plattsburgh will win the national championship? Of course not! I'm saying that this upcoming they have just as much, if not more, of a chance than in 92 or 01 had, simply because Emery is coming off a year of outstanding coaching shown this yea. You don't just lose that in a year.

I didn't say it doesn't take two to tango. Talent and poor coaching doesn't go anywhere either. Also recruiting is key to a good program and Platty always doesa good job of that.:)

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

It is 02/18/11, the last regular season game.

I really like the schedule. First semester home for six away for six (Skidmore and Potsdam games are almost like home games tho). Second semester home for 11 away for only 3. The only road games in the 2nd are Fredonia, Buffalo, and Morrisville.....

Season is coming:

Dear Season Ticket Holder:

With the 2010-11 men’s ice hockey season fast approaching, we are ready to begin the season ticket renewal process.

As a current season ticket holder, you will have the first opportunity to reserve your current seats at a cost of $120.00 per seat. Please inform us no later than July 13th if you plan to renew the same number of seats you had last season. Please take the time to complete the Season Ticket Renewal Form, included with this mailing, and return it no later than the July 13th deadline with your deposit. A minimum of a 50% deposit is required with your application. The balance will be due when you pick up your tickets at the Field House Box House. Pick up will be August 9th-13th from 12 p.m. – 7p.m. After that week, pick up times will be more limited; however, you can call the Field House at (518) 564-4062 to set up a time to pick up your tickets.

To make further communications more efficient and environmentally friendly, we are making every effort to secure an active email address from all of our season ticket holders. Therefore, it would be appreciated if you fill out the enclosed form clearly and completely.

Your season ticket package will include all regular season home games, the Primelink Great Northern Shootout (hosted by SUNY Plattsburgh), and the Cardinal Classic. You will also have the opportunity to purchase post season tickets prior to general sales. To view the men’s ice hockey schedule, please visit the new SUNY Plattsburgh Cardinals web site at http://www.gocardinalsports.com/index.aspx

We also ask for your support of the team by either joining the Friends of Plattsburgh Hockey, http://www.gocardinalsports.com/sports/2010/4/12/GEN_0412103126.aspx?id=16 , or by purchasing seat naming rights. All revenue generated by naming rights supports Cardinal Hockey directly.

The information contained in this letter is intended for season ticket holders only. Information on general ticket sales can be found on the above web site.

As always, we sincerely thank you for your continued support of SUNY Plattsburgh’s Men’s Ice Hockey team.

Go Cardinals!

Opps: (Via e-mail to season ticket holders - which has now exposed and made vulnerable the season ticket holder database to the world (a simple "Reply All" will send messages to all of them) - another Opps - hopefully not a BIG one).

Good morning everyone!

My name is Erin Conner and I work here in the athletic department at SUNY Plattsburgh. I am the contact person in charge of men's ice hockey season tickets now. Some of you I know and you may know me, but for those of you I don't know I look forward to meeting you this season at games!

I'm sure by now you all have received your men's ice hockey season ticket renewal forms and letters. In receiving some payments up to this point, I have realized that on the renewal forms it is unclear who to make checks payable to for the season tickets. By looking at the renewal forms, it says to make checks payable to the Plattsburgh College Foundation (PCF); however, that is ONLY if you are writing checks for seat naming rights. Please make checks payable to SUNY Plattsburgh for your season tickets. I apologize for this mistake and it is something I will be correcting for the future.

For those of you who have already written checks out to the Plattsburgh College Foundation (PCF) and sent your payment in, please do not worry because we are taking care of it and it is being dealt with in the proper manner.

I just wanted to reach out to everyone else before I started to receive many more renewals to hoepfully prevent this from occurring from this point forward.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please do not hesitate to e-mail me at conn2004@plattsburgh.edu or contact me by phone at (518)564-4301.

Once again, I am sorry for the mistake and confusion.

As always, thank you for your continued support of SUNY Plattsburgh Men's Ice Hockey!

Regards,
Erin

Is the Plattsburgh season ticket holder list a matter of national security? Besides, the list was sent to season ticket holders....hardly an international incident (unless there is a Canadian or two on the list)!:D

National security, hopefully not, exposing everyone on the email to e-mail extractors/harvestors, very likely. :(

I wish Elmira could play 17 home games in on year again with a 25 game schedule :o

I know you also host the Primelink this year which adds two more games...but still 15 is a nice healthy home schedule as well!

I hope Elmira looks into hosting a tournament again. They used to bring in some pretty good teams for the short lived East/West faceoff and the Star Gazette tournament usually was a decent draw.

I know Coach Ceglarski said that Elmira was set to host a tournament either this past season or this upcoming season back when he was still head coach but I'm sure with the coaching change last summer that probably threw a wrench into those plans.

I haven't heard a whisper of it since.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

We are getting closer to start of the season ---

Excerpt from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican June 24, 2010:

Plattsburgh will be the site of two in-season tournaments: the PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout (Nov. 26-27) and Cardinal Classic (Dec. 31-Jan. 1). The Shootout field also includes Middlebury, Saint John's-Minnesota and Norwich. The Classic will feature visiting teams Neumann, New England College and Curry.

The Classic is the start of a 10-game homestand — Plattsburgh State's longest since a 14-game stretch to end the 1991-92 NCAA championship season.

Cardinal Hockey and Karen Gaffney to Team Up in Lake Champlain Swim Crossing

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State men’s hockey student-athlete Eric Satim will be joining motivational speaker Karen Gaffney in her quest to swim across Lake Champlain on Sept. 18. This marks Gaffney’s second visit to the North Country since last October, when the North Country Down Syndrome Association and Cardinals Athletics welcomed her to speak to a captivated audience Hawkins Hall's Giltz Auditorium on the College campus.

Gaffney, a graduate of Portland Community College and an accomplished swimmer, is an exceptional young lady with Down syndrome who is president of the Karen Gaffney Foundation based in Portland, Ore. The non-profit organization is dedicated to championing the journey to full inclusion in families, schools, the workplace and the community for people with developmental disabilities. She is doing this by creating awareness and calling attention to the tremendous capabilities of people with disabilities. She accomplishes this through presentations and workshops delivered all over the country.

Click on the link, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwcfnQjwVR0, to hear an interview conducted by WIRY’s Bob Pooler between Plattsburgh men’s hockey coach Bob Emery and NCDSA's Cindy Rotz about Gaffney, prior to her first visit to Plattsburgh. The audio is available on the official YouTube page for Cardinal Athletics, http://www.youtube.com/CardinalsSportsInfo.

A senior-to-be from Montreal, Quebec, Satim was named both the team’s most valuable player and winner of the Chip Grabowski Award for the 2009-10 season. The center recorded a second-team-leading 27 points on 11 goals and 16 assists despite missing several games due to injury, earning All-State University of New York Athletic Conference honors for the second straight season. He has career totals of 31 goals and 56 assists for 87 points in 73 games played.

Card hockey greats to be honored (Excerpt from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican July 2, 2010)

The Plattsburgh State men's hockey program is planning for the big 2010 Alumni Weekend.

The bi-annual event will take place July 16-18 and will center on the three former players to be inducted into the Plattsburgh State Sports Hall of Fame — Danny Brown, Dave Piromalli and current assistant coach Steve Moffat.

"It's great for those guys to be recognized in front of their peers," said Plattsburgh State head coach Bob Emery. "A lot of former players will be there."

Moffat is the latest men's hockey player to be inducted.

"Steve's combination of talent and dedication was the best I've ever coached," Emery said. "Steve put up great numbers his four years here and we're fortunate that he has been here for a long time."

Brown and Piromalli were both inducted into the Plattsburgh State Hall of Fame last year.

"I never coached Danny Brown," Emery said, "But, he is an alumnus who has followed the program closely and has been very supportive, promotionally, financially and emotionally. He holds the Plattsburgh State record for points per game and it will never be broken.

"Dave Piromalli was going to graduate school here when I was in my first year as an assistant coach. I watched a lot of video of him and he was one of the outstanding scorers we've had here. He has also been very successful in his business life." ...
