Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

I missed Monday Night's edition of "Behind The Bench" and had to resort to listening to the replay the next night. I noticed Ducky mentioned my comment on the USCHO Forum that Plattsburgh won't make it to 20 wins after the conclusion of the REGULAR season. That statement was NOT a shot at the team at all, rather it was a fact. Plattsburgh can win out the rest of their games, but will finish with less than 20 W's. The best they can finish is 19-2-4, that by of course at the end of the regular season.

Go Cards!

2009-10 SUNYAC
Ice Hockey Players of the Week

January 25

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matty MacLeod, Plattsburgh Sophomore Defense (Woburn, Mass.)

MacLeod led the Cardinals with five points on two goals and three assists from his spot on the blueline, helping Plattsburgh go 2-0-1 on the week--all on the road. His week was highlighted by a career-high four points in a 7-1 win Saturday at Brockport.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Josh Leis, Plattsburgh Freshman (Kitchener, Ontario)
Leis played a large part in helping Plattsburgh go 2-0-1 overall for the week by going 1-0-1 himself. He had a 0.96 goals-against average, while stopping 39 of 41 shots for a .952 save percentage.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jon Whitelaw, Oswego Freshman Forward (Huntsville, Ontario)
Whitelaw recorded one goal and three assists for four points, as the top-ranked Lakers posted SUNYAC wins over Buffalo State and Fredonia. In Friday night's 10-1 win over Buffalo State, he tallied two assists, including an assist on the eventual game-winning power play goal. Whitelaw broke a scoreless tie against the Blue Devils with a power play goal, and later assisted the game-winning power play goal.

No just his glove and his rebound control...and there the lack of

I saw both Leis at the Primelink against Midd, and Williams against Norwich twice. I thought that Leis was the better goalie. I'm not sure why Leis gets so beat up by some Plattsburgh fans. In particular I wasn't all that impressed with Williams' glove and rebound control in the January game.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

And had Elmira converted on their chances from his rebounds it would have been more then 4-1...

The January 5th game was, without a doubt, a bad night for Williams. But what I've seen of him has left with the impression that, in terms of glove and rebound control, he is by far the better goalie. In terms of awareness of the game (where the skater for both team are, even if his back is to them, where the shooting lanes are open, etc.) and handling of the puck behind the net, I'm more comfortable with Leis.

They're both great goalies in their own regards, and the stats reflect this very well.

However, this is my opinion based on seeing the following games:

10/17 - Concordia (all 3)
11/27 - Middlebury (Leis)
11/28 - Norwich (Williams)
1/1 - Castleton (Williams)
1/2 - Trinity (Leis)
1/5 - Norwich (Williams)
1/9 - Elmira (Leis)
1/12 - Skidmore (Williams/Rossy)

So, I've seen Williams for a little over 4 games and Leis for 3 1/3 games. The remainder of my understanding of the situation comes from listening to WIRY for all the other games, except this past weekend. SO, now that I've made clear what my opinion is based upon, you can use it to determine whether you're going to take or leave my two cents.

So who is going to be between the pipes Sat. Night?

Rossy?:p

Actually..I hope we get to see both Leis and Williams...Leis starts and by the end of the 2nd period Emery has to go to Williams after Leis gives up his 5th goal! :D

IIRC 2 is the most given up by a Plattsburgh goalie in the CC so far.....:D :p

All I can think of, NUProf, is that the first weekend of games, Leis looked extremely nervous for 40 minutes (and then played a very good third period) while Williams looked more polished in his first game. I have stated that other than that first weekend, I've thought that both goalies have played extremely well and neither has played great enough to bench the other. If I had to make a choice, I trust Leis more than I trust Williams, but I think they are still very close.

Hince is coming back.

I've heard his status update shows he misses his days of the Oswego/Plattsburgh rivalry.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

That is the stuff nightmares are made of. Never speak of it again.

Well i hate to be the bearer of bad news...but if Josh Leis starts....he looks EXACTLY like Hince in the net. Same number, same build. Not exactly as flashy of a glove but i guarantee you if you slapped Hince's name on the back of the jersey there wouldn't be too many Laker fans that would be able to tell it wasn't him.

But there is one, massive difference. We've beaten Leis. We never beat Hince. Therefore, they can never be the same person, and therefore, Leis can never be the stuff my nightmares are made of. :p
