Plattsburgh State 23-24

Do You Believe in Miracles? YES!!!
I think it’s time to start a thread for this team. They win the 2023 Layer Eight Shootout with a pair of hard-fought 2-1 victories. This team’s biggest weakness is their discipline. They took another 5 minute major tonight. Luckily, one of their strenghths is their penalty kill. Great weekend to get their record to 8-0 going into a stretch of SUYAC games before the break.

It's so great to see the program back on a high. I confess I had my doubts about elevating Moff over a fresh presence when Emery left but I'm so glad to so far be wrong.

I agree they need to be more disciplined before it comes back to bite them. It is also embarassing. Hogg breaking and throwing his stick into the crowd after being ejected was over the top.

I also had doubts after how the Castleton head job went, but Moff has completely resurrected the program. Kudos to him and kudos to Plattsburgh for giving him the shot.

It has been impressive, but the coach surrounded himself with fresh ideas (assistant coaches) and a great recruiter! This is the recipe for success!

The Hogg incident was stupid and dangerous and definitely goes to the team’s lack of discipline. On that play, I knew the five minute penalty was in play. It was pretty obvious the way the Cadet’s head snapped back where contact had been. It was a bad hit.

The bite this team has combined with the lack of discipline going into a weekend where Oswego will probably be coming in with more snarl then usual because of a poor showing this past weekend is a recipe for disaster. Not to mention Cortland is playing well also. If Plattsburgh can control the emotions while keeping that bite in thier game they could have another great weekend but if not it might turn a dream season to a nightmare.

Happy 25th birthday to Mr Hogg. The long-departed poster from Trinity (have forgotten his screen name) would certainly have had something to say.

Are you talking about kashmoonie (sp?)?

Kashmunnie73 I believe.

Will never forget the post he owned me in when I had some terrible spelling and grammar and after I said here’s a quarter buy a clue he responded with “keep the quarter and buy a few vowels”.

Honestly an all-time got him moment and even though it was me with egg on my face, you have to look back and laugh at the situation.

I believe that Kashmunnie was based on a line by Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke. He was asked what he would play pool for.

What was the Hogg incident? Was it a cheap shot from a Trinity player on a Norwich Cadet. I don't remember it. I do remember Kash though. Sadly, he took his own life in Lake Winnepauskee, I believe. He was a legendary Trinity player from the early days that was penalty prone himself. He played for Coach Dunham.

Plattsburgh didn't allow a single shot against Cortland (thought that last second one probably should have counted)...incredible work

Yes in the first period Plattsburgh did not allow a Cortland SOG

I have always felt that Plattsburgh doesn’t count shots even remotely accurately. The visiting team seems grossly shortchanged. Does it make the fans or the home team feel better? It makes our goaltenders’ stats look worse… I thought Cortland definitely had a few shots in that first period.

BTW, I see uscho.com still can’t get the standings right for SUNYAC on their website. Still giving three points for a win. Been a couple years since that was the case…

Final 5-3 Plattsburgh

interesting night. It was chippy (especially for two teams that have never faced each other), but after the final whistle they shook hands in an uneventful handshake line.

Then, according to someone on the ice, A-M players were constantly yelling obscenities in the direction of the Cardinals and they left the ice before the trophy and all-tournament team awards. It wasn’t a good look…

I was on the ice for that. It was so strange how quickly it went from the handshake line, just like any other and even had a few hugs shared along the way, to whatever the hell that was before the award ceremony.

Did the Coach pull them to avoid a problem or a protest of something?
