PC Police: A New Low

Re: PC Police: A New Low

"Say, what's in this drink" means "how much alcohol is in this drink?"

Key-ryste.

The other thing is the whole point of the song is she's looking for an excuse to stay.

That's why I said, "I really doubt that's the point..." but I could see how some might take it and run. Simma da na.

Re: PC Police: A New Low

I think all this talk these days about "racists" and "racism" is a bit over-blown; the issue really seems to be one of ethnicity, not race. For example, in my experiences through the years,

-- I really like Jamaicans a lot; by ethnic group they are tied for 2nd (with Jews) among my friendships. However, I don't like Haitians very much at all.
-- I like Cubans and most Mexicans; Puerto Ricans, not so much.
-- I like most Indians, but have not yet met a Pakistani I can like
-- I like Welsh and Scots, but English, not so much.
-- I like Dutch, but Belgians, meh
-- I like Norwegians considerably more than Swedes.
-- I like Poles, but Russians, not so much.
-- I like Hungarians, but Serbs, meh
-- I like Irish and Jews more than Italians and Greeks

and on and on and on.

If I could make an analogy from statistics, the deviation around the median for most races today is far wider than the medians are separated from each other. There is so much overlap, and such increased awareness of differentiation within each race, that "racism" itself is just too broad a term to have any useful meaning.

Full cave man mode.

no, it's just your sense of perspective that's inoperative....

seriously, if you cannot tell the difference between a Jamaican and a Haitian, then you have no right to call anyone else a "racist" because you are implicitly assuming that all black people are indistinguishable from each other.

Some folks just will never understand that "sandbagging" works in other venues besides poker. Your response reinforces the point I was making at the outset, you know.

I certainly don't know all you know about accurate racial and ethnic classifications, but a Jamaican friend of mine is a transplanted Guyanese who, like much of the Guyanese population is Indian, nearly all of whom descended from indentured servants brought over by the Brits, many of whom are muslim. This man, who was a professor at the U of West Indies, has commented on significant differences among Jamaicans. But that notion is, of course, impossible, or it would not be possible to so glibly classify them as one and compare them (it) to other diverse groups jammed into a single, one-dimensional box so simple minds like yours can more easily deal with them.

With all due respect, you are so full it . . .

It's pretty cruel of you to respond to him in a language he can't understand.

Are you having a stroke? Or did your keyboard eat a bad batch of sushi?

Eh, I don't know, he might be onto something when it comes to Jamaicans. They seemed pretty awesome in Cool Runnings.
