PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

I called the ticket office today and I talked to the girl in the donations office. Apparently Friends of Friars still has yet to get a private license, so it will be open to the public this season. I did not however renew my season tickets. Figured I'd spend the money on away games closer to home (BU/BC/NU).

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

I've resolved to try not to argue with Hokydad this year as my belief that he's wrong is implied at this point.

Let's see how long this lasts...

It's actually a very good concept that I know several other programs have nailed. The idea is to take a room inside the rink and deck it out in the program's history (awards, old photographs, etc.). Then fans who go to a lot of games (e.g., season ticket holders), or just want to support the program, can make a donation to the program and in return, they get access to the room before and during home games. Each home game, there's free (or at least cheap) beer and snacks, so if you made the donation, you can use it as a place to chill pre-game and between periods and talk hockey, meet other fans, bring guests, etc. I've seen some that have TVs, or play the radio broadcast of the game over the speakers, stuff like that. It can also be used for team events, parents events, alumni events. The space at PC is pretty ideal (not many college rinks in the east have a room as large and with as good a view as that one; out west where the rinks are huge and have luxury suites it's different). Anyway if executed properly it's a cool thing to have

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

Good explanation of Friends Of Friars "natural Ice." I'll expand a little. Before my day I guess you had to pay to get into friends of friars and you bought a lifetime pass. That apparently fell by the wayside and it became free again, ****ing off alot of people who payed. The Forever friars fund obviously didn't learn from there mistakes, because after a generous donation, they revamped the FOF and decided to charge $100 to get in for season ticket holders and something like $250 per pass for non-holders. Halfway through last season someone was not allowed to go in because they didn't pay for the pass, and actually went to city hall to complain that we were running a private club, which needed certain permits. So mid-season last year it became public again ****ing off a whole new generation of alumni like myself. This year its free again. If your a student and of age its a great little known pregame option. Friends that hated hockey would come for the cheap gansetts and end up having a great time. They also used to kick you out during game play but this season they got real lax.

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

Can anyone give me a compelling reason to go the game on friday night?

i'd like a televised cavbim/Hokydad debate, personally.

Sure Jon.

Only reason I can think of you renew at least a few old friends.

First thought is they are kicking of the season directly competing with the PBruins opener and since the PBruins out promote them that is just sheer genius.

Looks like they made good use of the money coming from Moore's salary. First Rask should be hungry as he hopefully climbs the ladder as a coach. Second it means two assistants who actually are here full time. Beyond that they were able to afford a Volunteer assistant this year (they got Clark Donatelli)

I'm hearing the lines are basically trying to pair classmates up for long term stablility, though through the recent past line stability doesn't last through the singing of the national athem. Bergland and a pair of sophs (Jamnick and Shaller). Mackinnon on a senior line (O'Connor and Farrer)--2 capt's and an A. Kremyr is going to line up with the frosh (Army and Cross). Sounds like 4th line is a crap shoot--though I suspect Germain is in as one of the "A"'s-- which shouldn't be surprising since the bulk of the forwards on this team a pretty interchangeable. Defense sounds like a reliance on the 4 veterans in the lineup at the end of last year who return (New, Baier, Vels, and Harvey) Brown sounds like the odd man out the frosh need to prove themselves to get time.

By and large this is a veteran team, they will dress but 4 freshman and 2 of them are 21 or at least soon to be. The biggest and really only loss is Fayne, but since most Hockey East schools are mostly returning that might be a bigger loss then you imagine. I would hope they would eke out a playoff spot, ceiling would likely be a place higher and reality says failing to make it again would not be a surprise. The only team who lost enough fire power to fall back even if the Friars improve is UMass. I guess PC's best hope is for 3 or 4 teams to dominate and drive the middle pack toward the bottom last year 3-9 were too close separated by 4 points for PC to stay in the race.

I think the key players are going to be the sophomores and how much more they can contribute with a year under their belt, in particular Velischek, Schaller and Jamnick, but Landman came with some notoriety.

Thank you the info!

I am sorry to read that you didn't renew your season tickets but I understand why most did not. I have extra tickets this season if you or any other poster wants to go to the games @ Schneider. No charge cause I'm a swell individual. :D Please feel free to email me. I always have at least a pair available.

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

Any Section E'ers going to the game tonight?

Are any of you who didn't renew planning on going tonight anyway?

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

nope, just dont want to engage in talk that adds zero value to discussion

time to move on from the foolishness abd focus on the on ice play

In other words, Hokydad is a coward like Warsofsky and refuses to accept the consequences for his actions.

LOL...

Yep, that is dead on target.

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

Raise a banner!

It's been over a year since we beat NU. You know things are going badly when I type that.

Couldn't go as the boy was playing between periods at the Dunk.

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

unfortunately couldn't make it tonight, but glad to see an opening night win over NU. Anyone who went want to give us a report on the game and how the team looked? Reading the box score there were a lot of penalties on PC early. Impressive to see Cross get 2 points in his first college game. I'm interested to hear how some of the young guys looked and if they show hopefully some promise to get this team moving in the right direction.
