PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

I get the feeling they will have no choice when the Big 10 expands (could be soon, no?) and things really start splintering off in other conferences. It won't be something they take the lead in doing, probably more of a reaction to what happens elsewhere.

They didn't exactly take the lead when the Big East raided Conference USA either.

I'll believe the Big East football/basketball divorce when I see it. They've been threatening for years and it never happens.

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

PC basketball continues to go downhill with their top recruiter going to Pitt, the rats are leaving the sinking ship......maybe the Captain will go too (AD)

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

I didn't realize the Dominicans took a vow of incompetence...

Dear UCONN, please stop trying to outscandal us. Unoriginal jackanapes.

Yeah I agree, it's true it's been talked about for a while. Still I think it's an inevitability that it's going to happen. Take away Rutgers, Syracuse, Pitt, etc. and it's completely DOA as a football conference. Only half of the Big East currently plays Division 1 football, so it is hanging on by a thread as it is and once they lose one other team, it's going to be all over.

They all know it (it's why BC left), which is why you keep hearing about it, but changes in conferences take years to formulate. That said we're definitely on the verge of it happening if the Big 10 expansion turns out to be genuine. If the Big 10 or anyone else raids one of these teams the Big East, at least from a football standpoint, will start toppling over like a stack of dominoes, and you'll see a group of the football schools scrambling to go anywhere else with other conferences (like the ACC too) likewise expanding to absorb them. A lot of folks seem to think we'll be seeing 16-team "super conferences" in college football, which means there won't be any Big East football conference at all.

From a money point of view it makes sense to grab the best teams from the Big East and expand the Big 10.......which sport takes in the most money, football or basketball and that would be net not gross......

Football by a longshot...bigger attendance, bigger TV contracts, etc. etc. If basketball was the driving factor the Big East would be fine, but it's football that drives the bus. As I said, as much grief as BC took for leaving the Big East, they clearly saw this coming and made plans ahead of time to avoid the BE falling apart football-wise. It's just a matter of time -- once they lose any other school they won't have a BCS bid and the dominoes will start falling from there.

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

Friars have added defenseman Stephen Shamanski for next year. He played in the same Canadien junior league as Damian Cross and scored 19 goals with 52assists. He will join Mark Adams and Kevin Hart as incoming defensemen this fall.

You have your players mixed up. He was teammates at Dauphin with '11 recruit Shane Luke in the Mainitoba Junior Hockey League.. Cross is from the Central Ontario League having played at Pembroke.

Army took a shining to him at the RBC classic that was held just before we signed Luke. He replaces Brice O'Connor and actually should be a step up from him offensively. Another 21 year old freshman which O'Connor would have been also. He was the King's team captain and I believe player of the year.

The connection to Cross is that the 2 of them were in some sort of running for junior player of the year. in Canada though neither ended up winning.

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

More on Shamanski from USHR.
6'0", 185 lb. Dauphin Kings (MJHL) RD Steven Shamanski, who was named Player of the Year, Top Defenseman, and First Team All-Star in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League this season, will be joining Providence College this fall.

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

Sounds like a very young team ..... they will have to lean on the few leaders from last year but they do sound promising.....looking foward to a better year this year than the last 2.....but thats the only way we can go, up

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

21 year old freshmen? They're not that young, lol.

Finally!!!! The rest of college hockey has been doing it for years. Glad our guy finally got a clue.
PC is not going to crack the top 6 in an off season but anything less than eighth place is grounds for a termination in my books. You have solid players and a stud goalie.
According to one troll, PC has the scoring punch coming in that the regulars all agree has been lacking over the past few seasons.
In short, this team consists TOTALLY of Timmy's guys, supposedly they can score and they have a solid defense with a very good goalie. Eighth place or bust baby!!!! Happy days are here again. ;)

I just want to know if Army can win more than 1 game after January 16th, since they've been unable to do that one simple task two consecutive seasons running.

LOL you had me going there 91. Said individual seems overly enthused for a program that's changed...well...nothing whatsoever...after two of the worst seasons PC hockey has ever endured. I also seem to remember the exact same types of numbers being boasted about when all the players he recruited were coming in over the last few years.

BTW, it will be an utter, total embarrassment if PC finishes in 8th and the school, Army, or a Certain Follower of Hockey East Who Pretends to Be a PC fan starts boasting about "how we've made the playoffs again." Making the QF's in your your own conference ought to be a given. That PC hockey can't even get there, to that basic placement in the league standings, is obviously humiliating for a formerly proud program. And getting back to that not-necessarily-respectable level, if Army even reaches that point, is not grounds for another contract extension. :p

Looks like the Big 10 is raiding and adding Syracuse, Rutgers, Maryland and Notre Dame.......that keeps the Big East alive but on some life support for now....maybe we can now work on hockey
