Pats' Offseason: At Least The Jets Lost . . . ?

Re: Pats' Offseason: At Least The Jets Lost . . . ?

From Peter King's MMQB:
There's a team in the draft that has a deal on the table -- I'm guessing New England (surprise!) -- with a team trying to come back into the first round. The deal will net the team dealing the first-rounder the following: a second-round pick in 2011 and a first-round pick in 2012. The deal, I hear, is contingent on the player the trade-up team wants still being there. Could it be Tennessee trading into the bottom of the first round, at 28, to get Jake Locker or Andy Dalton? Stay tuned.

Re: Pats' Offseason: At Least The Jets Lost . . . ?

First round takes place tonight, with NE sitting at 17 and 28. I had a dream last night that they traded up to Cleveland's spot at No. 6, so keep an eye out for that. ;)

1 (17)
1 (28)
2 (33)
2 (60)
3 (74)
3 (92)
4 (125)
5 (159)
6 (193)

Re: Pats' Offseason: At Least The Jets Lost . . . ?

A lot of buzz mid- to late this afternoon that NE was looking to trade with Dallas to move up to No. 9. Then Mortensen proclaimed that dead right around 5:00 p.m.

So we'll see what happens. Cameron Jordan is allegedly the Pats' target.

Goddell just got lustily booed.

Re: Pats' Offseason: At Least The Jets Lost . . . ?

Three more picks before NE goes at No. 17 (assuming they stay there). Still available:

Quinn
Jordan
Kerrigan
Amukamara
Wilkerson
Bowers
Ingram
Castonzo
Pouncey

Re: Pats' Offseason: At Least The Jets Lost . . . ?

Quinn, Pouncey, and Kerrigan went off the board at 14-16. In a surprise, New England picks Nate Solder, T, Colorado, at No. 17.

1 (17) Nate Solder, T Colorado
1 (28)
2 (33)
2 (60)

Re: Pats' Offseason: At Least The Jets Lost . . . ?

I gave up trying to predict NE drafts years ago. Hopefully this kid helps keep Brady on his feet for a few more years.

Re: Pats' Offseason: At Least The Jets Lost . . . ?

Something to watch: We're now at the point in the first round where NE could trade up from 28 by giving up 28 and their third-rounder (their third, not Minny's third), according to the draft value chart.

Re: Pats' Offseason: At Least The Jets Lost . . . ?

New England trades No. 28 to New Orleans for No. 56 and NO's first-rounder next year. (The Saints pick Ingram.)

Barring further movement, here's where the Pats are going into day 2 (they have five picks tomorrow night):

1 (17) Nate Solder, T Colorado
2 (33)
2 (56)
2 (60)
3 (74)
3 (92)
4 (125)
5 (159)
6 (193)

Next year NE has its first five picks, plus NO's first-rounder (no sixth- or seventh-rounder in 2012).

Can't throw any quick slants to that guy's side, Brady won't be able to see/throw over him. On a positive note, Pats will win the annual Pats vs. firefighters bball game.

Which one of those guys can actually sack a QB, I figured they'd go for a D lineman before a O lineman

Bowers led in Sacks last season, but there is a report that he needs more surgery this offseason. A big risk. I also saw that Cinci REALLY wants Dalton and they are sitting at #36 currently. Look for Cinci to call New England to work something out.

Re: Pats' Offseason: At Least The Jets Lost . . . ?

Mike Lombardi saying Oakland and NE may be working on a trade for 33.

Agreed Walrus, it would be nice not to let the QB stand back there all day . . .

Re: Pats' Offseason: At Least The Jets Lost . . . ?

Funny, this is the pick everyone KNEW they would trade, and they actually make it! :)

NE takes CB Ras-I Dowling from Virginia at 33.

1 (17) Nate Solder, T Colorado
2 (33) Ras-I Dowling, CB Virginia

They're up again in four picks.

NE trades 60 to Houston for 73 and 138. Not sure I get that one.

Re: Pats' Offseason: At Least The Jets Lost . . . ?

So two rounds in, they haven't drafted a front-seven defender. Very strange. They must love what they saw from Cunningham . . . ?

Re: Pats' Offseason: At Least The Jets Lost . . . ?

Jason, was the 3 and 5 this year?

Yes, that's what they announced, anyway.

I could see them moving into next year since even after the NO trade they only have six picks, but adding more late-rounders this year doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me unless in-season rosters expand to 65.

Re: Pats' Offseason: At Least The Jets Lost . . . ?

NE takes RB Stevan Ridley of LSU at 73. Odd.

1 (17) Nate Solder, T Colorado
2 (33) Ras-I Dowling, CB Virginia
2 (56) Shane Vereen, RB California
