I hope to print this thread out for Jesse tomorrow and get it to the student who is bringing the banner to Minneapolis so he'll have it after his surgery....Thanks for all the support from around the country. I am sure this will mean a great deal to both Jesse and his family to know that he is in your thoughts...

Re: Pass on your best wishes to Jesse Martin here

Terry and Jaquie Martin, you've raised a young man with character and compassion beyond his years. Jesse has faced adversity before and come through like a champion. You should be proud of him. Thank you for giving him courage and dedication to his goals. Our hearts and minds are with you and Jesse in this difficult time.

Keep the faith!

Re: Pass on your best wishes to Jesse Martin here

I have been in touch with the CC athletic deparment this week, and as of today, it has been confirmed that after the DU lineup is introduced Saturday night at World Arena, there will be a short statement read about Jesse before they proceed with the introduction of the CC players. I was told that CC did not want to do anything too drawn out because of the emotional toll it could take on DU before the game, and that they wanted to make sure DU was okay with whatever they did. The DU staff has seen the statement and it has been approved and well received. So EVERYONE be in or at your seats before the lineups are introduced. All of the CC and DU fans at this game need to come together and applaud Jesse because some things are far bigger than a hockey rivalry.

Thanks for anything you might have had to do with this, JS Tigers.

This is a very cool gesture.

We fans may dump on our rivals from time to time, but when you strip away the animosity, there is an awful lot of respect between the teams, administrations and the fans.

I am reminded of a cool commercial that the IOC did a few years ago which captures this spirt of respect between Olympic adversaries, but I think the idea and the words behind it are also very applicable to our 60 year rivalry....

You are my adversary, but you are not my enemy.

For your resistance gives me strength.

Your will gives me courage.

Your spirit ennobles me.

And though I aim to defeat you, should I succeed, I will not humiliate you.

Instead, I will honor you.

For without you, I am a lesser man.

Great post, Swami, and I totally agree about our rivalry. In my contact with CC this week, I was told that the departments are very close and that everybody at CC is hurting for Jesse.

I contacted CC on Monday to ask if they or WE could do something for Jesse and I received a response very quickly. They were already talking about it within the department and wanted to do something, but also wanted to coordinate with DU before finalizing anything. So I definitely don't deserve any credit for this. I am just the messenger and was told that I could share the information.

The Jesse Martin banner is on its way to Minneapolis. Thanks to DU alum Miller Baird ('72) and his wife Debbie for all the work and effort they put into getting the banner and having it signed. Also a big thank you to Angel Field in organizing the banner signing on the DU side. She was the one responsible for getting the team to sign it and get the tables, etc. for Miller and his crew to use. You find some photos of the banner here.

According to Mike Chambers of the Denver Post.

The Pioneers came into Friday expecting Martin to be recovering from surgery in a Minneapolis hospital to stabilize his neck. However, Martin on Friday was instead transferred to a hospital in nearby St. Paul, Minn., and surgery was postponed until Monday, and another surgical team has been assembled.

Re: Pass on your best wishes to Jesse Martin here

Good luck with your surgery Jesse!
Hang in there and get well soon!
