Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

nobody is shouting "1918" at USA hockey.

That's not what it was about. It was about the inferiority complex we (as fans) had whenever the Yankees were involved, and always seeing THEM win when it could have/should have been the Sox. It's frustrating to see a team who clearly IS a superior team to the one you root for win on a fluky goal.

In all honesty, the closest thing I can equate it to was when Boone hit that HR in extras off Wakefield. Same "Did that really just happen"?-feel to it. Same over-the-top celebration. Same feeling that all that hard work went for nothing. Sure, in the long run, this can be reflected upon as a trigger-point for USA Hockey re-inventing itself.

But for today, I'm just a little sad that our Big Brother beat us again. :(

I can't believe NBC really did this... Well, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

Ok, I like the interviews and all, but why bother showing the singing if you're not gonna stay with it? This is horrible.

Not that I'm all into Alanis or anything, I'm just looking at it from a coverage perspective.

I admit her first album was decent for a pop record, but she fell off after that, considerably.

But really, this is terrible.

I seriously can't believe they cut the program in half and dumped that trashy show in between. I couldn't watch it.

I couldn't even watch the ads. To me it screamed "here's some random people with a beef, and here's some non-A-list comedians to show their stuff!"

Inexcusable.

hopefully that's the last NBC broadcast of the olympics ever (knowing full well the folly of this statement).

Wasn't it NBC with the "Triplecast" years ago?

Frankly, I bet some people could come up with the dough every 4 years, work with all the cable/dish companies, and get the Olympic Channel(s) on the various overflow/blank channels. And I bet it would be successful. No PPV or extra charge, just rely on advertisers and sponsors.

I can't say I watched anything BUT the Olympics these last two weeks, minus a college game or two, in general.

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

I've had my eyeballs glued to the set and my computer screen for the online replays I missed of the olympics. NBC doesn't do anything special.

Ok, i don't know who this chick signing is but I'll take one please.

Ah. Greed.

Twice.

Not even close to possible.

NBC paid $1 billion for the rights to these Olympics, and are going to take a bath financially on it. You're not going to find enough people willing to put down that kind of money on such a poor investment. When you're talking about billions, you've moved well past eccentric idiot territory.

Plus, the next two Olympics are in Europe, which means odd times for live events, and thus no ratings. Not to mention people threw a **** fit when the first USA/Canada game was on MSNBC because apparently nobody had cable/could find the game.(Personally, I thought it wasn't 1995 anymore, but whatever, it was an issue) Imagine if you start putting events on channel 216 or 389 or whatever. Getting advertisers and sponsors for legit programming is enough of a challenge, let alone for a boondoggle like that.

You have to wonder if the Olympics will ever change in some way, because it's become a bloated financial mess for most every that gets involved.

Very valid points. I guess I'm just a dreamer. I had no idea about the financials, since I never looked into it.

This is a truly historical event, and even though money drives it nowadays, it still comes down to playing for pride for your country, and that includes the fans cheering for their country.

I thought that it could still sell.

And that makes me sad.

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

Seriously I stayed quiet on this, but the constant whining about NBC was on the level of "the Gophers always get the late game in the Final Five". Every event I wanted to watch I saw, all the events were listed to what channel they would go to (and they were all easy to find...if you cant find MSNBC or USA or CNBC on your channel guide give up you have already lost) and during a lot of the hockey games there WERE NO FRIGGIN COMMERCIALS! NBC lost hundreds of millions on this and still put on a ****ed good product and yet everyone and their mother had to friggin cry like Cindy Crosby because Parise forbid they didn't get to possibly watch China face West North Thailand in curling in HD!!!11!!

Look, there are about a billion ways to find out what happened in the Olympics...if you don't like, don't watch it. But if you are gonna watch it, take the stick out of your butt and try and enjoy yourself instead of sounding like a 3 year old that needs a time out! :p :D ;)

The only complaint I had was interrupting the closing ceremonies for some half-arsed tv show, and tape delaying the rest of the closing ceremonies.

Otherwise, c'est la vie.

Re: Part VI of the XXI Winter Olympiad: USA!! USA!! USA!!

One thing I was surprised with is that they actually gave out an MVP award...didn't expect that/know it was part of the tourney.

Serves your right for watching that wankfest...the opening and closing ceremonies are the the biggest waste of time this side of going to North Dakota ;)
