Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US
Returned last night from Vancouver. Good times. Saw Sweden - Finland men's ice hockey (excellent game), both women's semifinal ice hockey games (USA - Swe, Can - Fin), and finally women's curling (which in one match the USA lost to China).
Watched the USA men ice hockey beat the Canadians on the large screen in Robertson park. Now that was fun! Although it was a bit nerve racking wearing my USA jersey leaving the park and heading to Canada Place for the Swe - Fin game. I have never been heckled so much in my life. Canadians are poor losers.
Sweden - Finland game was a very good game. I'm not sure why people are thinking the Swedes are going to be an easy out.
The USA - Sweden women's game was another fun one to watch. My wife and I picked up tickets for half price about 5 minutes before the puck dropped. GOt to love scalpers!
USA was easily the better team but still an entertaining game. The Canadian crowd was very anti-USA after their men choked the night before. Luckily my wife and I were in a heavily populated USA section.
Canada - Finland game next was good too. Canada had a fairly easy time with the Fins. But they looked a bit nervous. I wondered if they felt some additional pressure after the men's loss the night before.
Between the two games, I think the USA team is playing better and will give the Canadians all they can handle tonight.
Curling is very cool to watch live. Much better than on TV. Although the TV shot of the house from overhead is nice, but I will give that up to be able to see all of the match and not miss the first couple of stones from each team due to the numerous TV commercials. The venue for the matches is awesome. 5000 people stuffed into a nice small confined place where you feel right on top of the ice is great.
My only complaint of the Olympics is the lack of transportation and signage. 20,000 people waiting to get into and out of the Canada Place was a nightmare. They just did not have enough Skytrains running during peak times. Also if could be a pain to find proper entrances at some venues. There was not a lots of signs directing people and the blue coat direction people were scarce.
Pic to follow later as soon as I finish sorting through them all.
