Paris Under Attack....the hell?

Re: Paris Under Attack....the hell?

I'm not sure that profiling based upon sex and age is a slope we want to start down, any more than profiling on race, religion or national origin.

The problem with profiling is not its accuracy. Strangely enough most of these events described as terrorist acts end up having been committed by young men with a middle eastern appearance. Any APB for the guys that ripped off your 401(k) better start with "white male, dressed in business suit, glued to cellphone," just like the search for a sexual predator typically begins, "white male, poor social skills, loner, but may live with parents."

Again, the problem isn't accuracy. These descriptions, 99% of the time will turn out very accurate. The problem is the collateral damage. We let the government run wild with these profiles and there are any number of posters here who are going to spend some time speaking with the police.
Yeah, most of us (including me) will be immediate suspects in any sexual predator case.

Re: Paris Under Attack....the hell?

Reminder that in Viet Nam it was the women, children and old people who blew up folks as they entered the villages.

Having trouble with refusing everyone. Not sure how to accept them safely. Glad I am only an armchair quarterback because there is no right answer except discrediting the crazies who are recruiting and planning. Killing them won't work as well as discrediting them.

Re: Paris Under Attack....the hell?

I do think it's important to consider that the VAST majority of refugees not only are entirely non-violent, but also are running from the very same monsters we are trying to fight. They are on our side.
This does not get nearly enough attention. It very well could be part of ISIS's strategy in Paris was to shut off the emigration valve so the people they're trying to have dominion over are forced to stay and be dominated. On the other hand, they're having a hard enough time controlling the region even with the refugees leaving, so I can't imagine that they really want even *more* enemies who are even more desperate to be hanging around. They probably haven't really thought it through beyond "west bombs us, we bomb them."

Not to mentjon that recruiting from among them is GREAT resource for counter-terrorism. Mormon Mike from Montana means well, but he doesn't know jack sh-t about the situation on the ground and he's not going to be very useful for infiltrating ISIS. Akbar from Aleppo, on the other hand...
Also a good point. We absolutely need more native speakers (and thinkers) on our side.

Perhaps we're at the point where they cannot be accepted safely, and you have to turn them away.

Muslims are very dangerous. Look at Hamtramck MI, where they just elected a majority of Muslims, and not even a week after election, they're already trying to cleanse the town of those that don't pray five times a day or don't subscribe to Sharia law. Refugees are trojan horses. Want some perspective on what can and will happen? Just check out the story of the game "Papers, Please", because as much as it may be fictitious now, I guarantee you it will become reality.

All religions are dangerous in this way. Could be trying to get rid of gays, or whatever else from their communities. You are simply more intolerant of Muslim than other groups. So you'll find any reason to keep them out.

Wow. I realize that for you this is just a game of making stupid-azz statements to elicit response, Flagg, but that ranks down there a ways.

First off, I doubt flaggy can properly pronounce Hamtramck, let alone find it on a map (I only can because my wife is from the Detroit area).

Secondly, I'd like to know what they've done that has been so controversial. A Google search only brings up the usual right wing derp-o-sphere sites, and even they are only claiming that their mere election signals the end of the world. They aren't mentioning anything done since the actual election.

Meh. France lets in a refugee from Syria and ends up with 129 dead. That's nothing. Oklahoma let in a refugee from upstate New York and ended up with 168 dead.

We can't find this stuff because we don't go to the news sources he does.

Obviously they were part of the Jade Helm 15 plot and are putting people in Wal-Mart death camps. Frauddy still hasnt admitted he had his head up his *** on that one.

Religions are not dangerous. Loonie extremists are. Its frankly somewhere between counterproductive and dangerous to not know this when trying to address terror.

Profiling is not an issue here. The FBI is intimately familiar with the best ways of snagging these guys. Terrorists signal their intentions and communicate them. This is how France can track this guy down.

Profiling only becomes a potential danger when trying to address crime which is isolated and broadbased (such as general crime in the US) and it is being addressed by a large decentralized organization like the US' police force.

Religions are not dangerous.
Separate from the terrorism conversation I find religion to be dangerous. That can show up in much smaller ways than the nth degree of blowing people up. It's a breeding ground for intolerance.

Re: Paris Under Attack....the hell?

Saw this on Facebook this morning.

Why those 5 states? Why announce it ahead of time? To get everyone riled up and focused on those 5 states and then target others because everyone is thinking other locations?

I'm flying home from Orlando tonight. I'm sure security at the airport will be pretty heavy.

ETA: I just noticed that article is from May of this year. Hmmmm.

2 things about that article.

1. It's the Washington Times, a.k.a. the Moonie Paper. It's hot garbage.
2. It's dated May 6, 2015, so if there ever was a 6-month terror campaign, it's over.

"ISIS says it has 71 'trained soldiers' already in the United States and claims 23 have signed up for missions like Sunday." Apparently the other 48 have discovered daily fantasy sports since arriving in country.

Flag, some Oregon herp-a-derp official going on a Facebook rant about Sharia coming to Hamtramck, doesn't make your bullsh*t true. :D

Well, that and internet porn....

I think you grossly understated how many are non-violent and running away.

Re: Paris Under Attack....the hell?

In principle, I agree. But if you look at what the South is doing a la gay marriage, I'd say that's pretty dangerous. They're trying to rewrite the Constitution with their own version of Sharia Law.

Re: Paris Under Attack....the hell?

Religion can be an amplifier. If you're a good person religion can multiple your goodness many times. Likewise if you're a bad person. What religion basically says is human standards are not important in the face of the Almighty. That's great if you're fighting slavery. Not so great if you're trying to force everyone back to the 17th century (Christian fanatics) or the 7th (Muslim fanatics).
