Great minds...just posted in the D3 updates page that the preview is up now.

No goals during the 2nd. Shots 9-4 Plattsburgh for a 2 period total of 19-7. The Amherst bench is so short it looks like they have players on ice and then switch for the players off ice. Very helter-skelter play; Lloyd loves the big ice at Kenyon and is madly all over the place; Stuart made a couple of big stops late in the period to keep the game tied.

Impressive offensive explosion by the Cardinals in the 3rd. The 4th goal was particularly pretty with a perfect pass from deep down right wing to the top of the crease for the redirect. Seemed to take the wind out of the Lord Jeff sails. Late word Salerno did not break anything.

I was wondering whehter maybe they were correcting their previous mistake. I didn't notice if they put the clock back to the time of the goal before that faceoff. I would be curious to know exactly what happened there. It wouldn't be like Kevin Houle to not know the rule either so they must have been able to satify him with an explanation.

Great afternoon of action at Kenyon! Middlebury came back from a 2 goal deficit to win 4-3 in OT. The Panthers jumped out to an early lead when Greer scooped up a loose puck inside the right wing blueline and fed cross ice to Katie Sullivan coming off the Midd bench; she had space and moved in on Elmira goalie Lauren Sullivan; she made the initial save but Greer stuffed the rebound home from the top of the crease. Midd was controlling play much of the 1st until Elmira struck with a late period goal; Gaskin controlled in her zone, got the puck to Johnson who fed Lamoureaux; she broke down left wing and rifled one from the left dot, beating Midd goalie Pinsnet (a lefty goalie, catches with her right hand) up gloveside. Elmira extended the lead early in the 2nd when Hogan (who leads DIII scorers with 10 goals) launched a rocket from the right wing, beating Pinsent top shelf; assists went to Gaskin and Ryan. The Soaring Eagles then cashed in a powerplay goal to make it 3-1; Weston passed to Ryan, who fed Wilgosh; she moved to the top of the right circle and her low shot deflected off a Midd defender and flipped up and over Pinsent for the score. The Panthers answered with a powerplay goal minutes later when K Sullivan got the puck from deep in the left corner to Ugalde on the left half boards; she fed Marrison at left point and her low drive made it through traffic and under Elmira goalie L Sullivan. The 3rd saw L Sullivan strong in net as Midd was unable to capitalize on three successive powerplay. Then came a twist strangely similar to the major called on Midd's Greer in last season's NCAA game against Plattsburgh. The Panthers were in transition up the boards in front of their bench, a Midd player turned and was working the puck up the boards and was hit from behind; the officials conferenced and made the 5 finger sign to both benches. Ugalde worked down the right wing, got a pass inside her D to K Sullivan who had space and carried in for a shot that was saved by L Sullivan and went right to Greer on the goalie's stickside at the top of the crease for the tap in to tie 3-3. The Panthers had a chance to win as time ran down when Joyce had a clean break in from the blueline; she had space to deke and go to her backhand looking for the gloveside twine only to have L Sullivan not go for the fake and make a left pad save to send the contest to OT. The gamewinner was a powerplay goal. A Midd player (I asked and was told it might have been Fluke) worked deep in the right corner and passed the puck into a scrum at the goal mouth. Woodward worked the puck loose to Bielawski at the right post and she scored.
And, they do it again tomorrow! Some buzz about the Plattsburgh-Middlebury match up in the 2nd game after the Cardinals ended the Panther season last spring on this very Kenyon ice with their stunning 4-2 NCAA win! Should be worth watching (and may just be worth this week's #1 poll position).

Cardinal women pull away in third

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Once the Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team took the lead in the third period Saturday, the Cardinals were relentless.
Plattsburgh scored five goals, two by Teal Gove, in the final 11 minutes of the contest and pulled away to an 8-3 victory over Amherst College in the opening round of the Panther/Cardinal Classic, hosted by Middlebury College.
In today’s second round of play, Amherst takes on Elmira College at 1 p.m., followed by Plattsburgh and Middlebury at 4 p.m.
In Saturday’s second game, the host Panthers scored late in the third period and then got one in overtime for a 4-3 victory over the Soaring Eagles.
The top-ranked Cardinals (6-0-1) and eighth-ranked Lord Jeffs (1-2-0) were tied at 3-all entering the third period.
But Emma Rutherford took a pass from Allison Era and put Plattsburgh ahead to stay at the 9:05 mark and Jenny Kistner’s goal 43 seconds later at 9:48 gave the Cardinals a 5-3 advantage.
Gove then took over and scored goals at 11:10 and 15:13, the first coming on the power play, to make it 7-3. Gove’s first goal allowed her to become the eighth player in program history to reach the 100-point mark.
The Cardinals closed out the scoring with 32 seconds remaining on Chelsea VanGlahn’s power-play goal.
“We came out and had a good second half of the third period,” said Plattsburgh coach Kevin Houle. “We scored a beautiful goal to take the lead and then got a power-play goal. We were able to get on a roll and all five goals were nice ones.
“I guess when it rains, it pours. We were able to take advantage of our opportunities.”
A wild start to the game had the two teams combine for six goals in the first eight minutes of the contest.
Kenzie Menzak, Kistner and Era tallied for the Cardinals, who held leads of 2-0 and 3-1.
Eileen Harris, Geneva Lloyd and Emily Flom countered for Amherst.
“We played real good in the first period,” said Houle. “We were able to get out to an early 2-0 lead.
“They scored three goals in the period and two of them were pretty fluky. We did make some mistakes. But I felt we controlled the play and they had the puck in our end only three or four times.”
Plattsburgh then held a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal in the second period, but neither team was able to score.
“We played a little too much as individuals and not as a team in the second period,” said Houle. “It was pretty hectic. Still, we were a little unfortunate not to have the lead.
“But, definitely, we still felt we had control of the game, even though a goal for them would have given them a 4-3 lead. Then we came out and carried the play in the third period like we did in the first.”
The Cardinals finished with a one-sided 31-13 edge in shots and Sydney Aveson recorded the victory in net with 10 saves. Kerri Stuart made 23 stops for Amherst.
“I thought we played well,” said Houle. “We did a good job on the penalty kill.”

Elmira opening up late on Amherst. Lord Jeffs look like they've run out of gas for the second straight night. Hogan with a pretty bar down snipe made it 4-1. Weston with a nice tip in goal in front of the net from Curk to make it 5-1. Wilgosh with a blast through traffic for 3rd Elmira goal.
Elmira wins it 6-1. Two straight games Amherst gives up five in the third.
Plattsburgh and Middlebury set to go at 4pm!

No Sinead Murphy anymore and only 16 skaters just doesn't have enough left in the tank to skate with the top teams for 60 minutes. Just look like they've ran out of gas last two nights.
