Pairwise Bracketology Part Deux: Playing with RHamilton's Tool

Re: Pairwise Bracketology Part Deux: Playing with RHamilton's Tool

Poor Niagara yes... but in this case I would respectfully suggest that this is a case where the PWR is not selecting the best possible field.

And, I would respectfully suggest that if Michigan wins tomorrow, they are NOT the 15th best team in this field.

Re: Pairwise Bracketology Part Deux: Playing with RHamilton's Tool

I am showing Union 12th in all 4 scenarios. Is that what you all have as well?

EDIT: Should Wisconsin win, the "ideal 5/12; 6/11; 7/10; 8/9" portion of the bracket, with adjustments made for avoiding all WCHA matchups is:
NoDak/Niagara; UNH/Mankato; 5th seed/Union (that would be BC or Miami); Other/DU (that would be Notre Dame or BC).

Obviously, the UNH/Mank game goes to Manchester. The 5th seed 'should' go to Toledo. NoDak could be 8th (Providence) or 6th (Rapids) here. If Miami s the 5 seed, they will go to Toledo. Otherwise, what will the committee do for attendance??

OK - First of 2 posts. This one is if Notre Dame wins:
#1s : QU, Minny, Lowell, NoDame
#2s: Miami, BC, UNH, NoDak
#3s: DU (9t), Nia (9t), Mank (11t), Union (11t)
#4s: SCSU, Wis (14t), Yale (14t), Canisius (16)

Which yields:
Providence: QU (1), NoDak (8), Nia (9t avoid DU), Can (16)
Rapids: Minny (2), BC (6), Mank, Yale (avoid Wis)
Manchester: Lowell (3), UNH (7), DU (9t), Wisc (14)
Toledo: NoDame (4), Miami (5), Union (11t), SCSU (13)

The only change the committee might make to this is to move the NoDak/Nia game to Rapids, and BC/Mank to Providence to try to get some people to Providence.

I am sorry I had Mankato and DU backwards in my earlier posts. I was thinking 7/11 paired, rather than 7/10.

Re: Pairwise Bracketology Part Deux: Playing with RHamilton's Tool

2nd post - if Michigan wins:

#1s : QU, Minny, Lowell, Miami
#2s: BC, NoDak (6t), UNH (6t), NoDame
#3s: DU, Nia, Mank (11t), Union (11t)
#4s: SCSU, Wis (14t), Mich, Canisius (16)

Providence: QU (1), NoDame (8), DU (9), Can (16)
Rapids: Minny (2), NoDak (6t), Nia (10), Mich (host)
Manchester: Lowell (3), UNH (7), Mank (11t), Wis (14t)
Toledo: Miami (4), BC (5), Union (12), SCSU (13)

Here, the committee could put BC in Providence and NoDame in Toledo with one swap, but that would be a 1/5 and 4/8 pairing without a host school involved, and seems doubtful (who knows?). Union could swap with Niagara, to try to help Toledo, I suppose.

If Notre Dame wins, I have

Code:
[B]Providence Manchester Toledo Grand Rapids[/B]
Quinnipiac Lowell Notre Dame Minnesota
Boston C New Hamp Miami North Dakota
Mankato Denver Union Niagara
Canisius Wisconsin St Cloud Yale

Michigan wins
Code:
[B]Providence Manchester Toledo Grand Rapids[/B]
Quinnipiac Lowell Miami Minnesota
Boston C New Hamp Notre Dame North Dakota
Union Mankato Denver Niagara
Canisius Wisconsin St Cloud Michigan

Re: Pairwise Bracketology Part Deux: Playing with RHamilton's Tool

Talk about a crappy hand MN would be dealt having to play the hottest team in D1 hockey and then the Whioux to move on. Good luck.

Same game pairings as mine, Priceless. The difference is you chose attendance draw over pure bracket integrity, right?

Right!! So, pull for Notre Dame tomorrow. And, you know, what difference does it really make? Maybe Michigan and NoDak would bring out of the Gophers what BC and NoDame did this winter.....

I believe priceless, I ran a contingency run w Lowell winning... Lowell was a #1 seed 100% of the time via monte caro,

of course right now im in adams morgan dc drunk out of my mind... but again, the last run i had was uml as a #1 seed w 100%

Yeah, I think bracket integrity is shot anyway, so they may as well try to maximize attendance. The committee could invoke the "flight is a flight" logic and move North Dakota-Niagara to Toledo and Notre Dame-Denver to Grand Rapids (eliminates a flight) to try to boost attendance in Grand Rapids (in the second scenario, obviously)

Re: Pairwise Bracketology Part Deux: Playing with RHamilton's Tool

What is the fly/drive mileage cutoff? Or a bit more simply, is Wisconsin close enough to Toledo (just 400 miles) where it would be a drive, and they would consider flipping them with SCSU who would be flying regardless if they get Toledo or Manchester?

As a BC fan I must let you know my other team is Niagara. Don't count your chickens yet. You know what BC has done to them.

If Notre Dame wins, I have

Code:
[B]Providence Manchester Toledo Grand Rapids[/B]
Quinnipiac Lowell Notre Dame Minnesota
Boston C New Hamp Miami North Dakota
Mankato Denver Union Niagara
Canisius Wisconsin St Cloud Yale

Michigan wins
Code:
[B]Providence Manchester Toledo Grand Rapids[/B]
Quinnipiac Lowell Miami Minnesota
Boston C New Hamp Notre Dame North Dakota
Union Mankato Denver Niagara
Canisius Wisconsin St Cloud Michigan

In the Michigan wins scenario I think it would be: , 8 Notre Dame/9 Denver,10 Niagara/7 UNH, 5 BC/11 Mankato,6 North Dakota/12 Union instead.

Re: Pairwise Bracketology Part Deux: Playing with RHamilton's Tool

I see many of the "experts" are thinking bracket integrity wins out (BC goes west/UND or ND come east). Will be interesting to see what the committee does.

Re: Pairwise Bracketology Part Deux: Playing with RHamilton's Tool

I like how the Regionals become the conference finals we all wanted to see: WCHA in GR, CCHA in Toledo, HE in Manchester and ECAC/AHA in Providence. I could see some shuffling with the 3-seeds (Mankato in Toledo, DU in Providence (a flight is a flight) and Union in Manchester) but I think you've pretty much nailed it. Which means the committee will do something entirely different!

Re: Pairwise Bracketology Part Deux: Playing with RHamilton's Tool

I've seen us projected in three of the for regionals, not in Toledo at all.

Poor Gophers, always dealt such a difficult hand around playoff time.

I haven't seen a scenario where Bucky is in your regional...
