You don't get to 3 straight National Semifinals without doing some (a lot) of things right.
I would bet dollars to donuts that Oswego went over all week how to attack the 1-3-1. They just did not execute when it counted. It happens, and when it does, as a coach it's really frustrating.
no thanks on the #1,but best of luck vs the cadets, whitelaw is big no doubt but as I wrote you guys were missing many as well, its part of the game as the ice, refs, and posts..ps Cadieux stood on his head a few times down the end,and MAY? have helped to steal one???With Emery, if you're not willing to lay out and block shots, you won't be around long. Great gameplan by coaching staff. I think it had more to do with the missing personnel. Nick Jensen was a trooper switching back to defense for the first time. I notice a significant dropoff in Oswego's PP without Whitelaw. Cadieux is a goalie we EXPECT to win some games for us.
It puts the Cards back in the SUNYAC hunt anyway. But Genny isn't going away. Maybe we can beat Norwich and put you guys right back at #1 !!
Also, I am sure I am the only one but I think Gilbert should start against Utica on Friday. Not because of anything Hare has done wrong but I think you need to see what he can do. I realize the potential is there for a transfer to come in or some freshman stud next year but I don't think it is wise to put your faith in that with the way Oswego has had trouble bringing in goalies. Utica is a very good team and it is not league game so you don't have to worry about the standings. Give him a short leash and put Hare in if he falters early.
Will Whitelaw be back for Friday's game against Utica? (Hope I'm not offending anyone by asking)![]()
I think it is a game time decision? Don't know if he has been in full practice or just skating around with team? Or, they make him heal, and come back in January?
Several HUGH things were appearent in last nights game. Emory out coached Ed. Ed did nothing to break the 1-3-1 in the first period. Not that he hasn't saw if for what the 12 years or so. Emory had his players ready to go. Not to for the Lakers if they could have won they would be in the cat bird seat for the SUNYAC's Now they must beat Platty in Platty to keep that assuming they win all the rest of the SUNY Games. Hare looked terrible in the first. Most importantly there seemed to me no leadership on the ice a HUGH hole now is appearent with Whitlaw out. One big plus for the Lakers they looked great on the PPK. Platty has a good PP unit and is usually very effecient.
The Cards goalie was extremely impressive and I haven't seen a college goalie that cool with so many shots like he took in the third ever. The Cards were diffently the better team last night.
Oswego'89
I knew I would get the same old bs about the hot hand and the goalie that gives them the best chance to win. First, Hare isn't really the hot hand, he is good no doubt but if Oswego plays committed team defense and capitalizes on offense I could probably get a W for them. Besides how does anyone know if Gilbert gives them a chance to win? He played one period of the USA game and was excellent and I want to see what he does in a game that counts. It's not like they would be throwing some club team scrub in there the kid has good credentials. I am sure Hare will start because Eddie loves the status quo but I have always been a fan of coaches that like to mix it up a little.
If they worrying about their track record of SUNYAC failures then they are doomed to repeat them. You spend the season preparing yourself to win the big ones sometimes that means preparing for all possibilities. If Hare were to get hurt then you would be relying on a shaky Jones and an untested Gilbert. Not wanting to screw with chemistry is how teams can become stagnant and complacent which is why Plattsburgh wins so often, Bob doesn't let his teams stagnate, after games like he would make some changes and even if they don't work that night, they usually pay dividends later.
I like that word SHELLACKING, but dont think it will happens, hopefully a win, but thanksSome thoughts - Some underdogs have a defeatist attitude others rise to the occasion. Seldom do I consider either Plattsburgh or Oswego as underdogs in relation to each other, but this years Oswego's senior laden team is one to be reckoned with. I'm hoping to see Oswego with only 2 more losses - February 16 & March 2. Being undefeated is nice, but it is monkey on your back, and it helps the underdogs rise to the occasion - they can play as if they have nothing to lose. I am glad for the huge DIII fan base Utica has and what Utica brings to DIII hockey, but I am looking forward to Oswego putting a nice shellacking on them.
