Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

If Eddie has any doubts or either has any injury problems he'll go get another transfer during winter break.

To be fair, most of the transfers that have come in the past few years wanted to transfer to Oswego, Coach Gosek hasn't had to go get them really.

If you are on the roster someplace else, the transferee has to make the initial contact. Coach can't go shopping on a DI or DIII roster. Possibly an ACHA roster, but that seems unlikely.

Yeah, that is correct. With conversations I've had with a few members of the Oswego team, most past, a few present, most of the transfers pursued Oswego after initial contact, Coach Gosek didn't have to do a lot of leg work. Also, it's amazing how connected all the guys from the different junior leagues are. If a former OJHL player talks with one of his old teammates about transferring from his D-I school, it doesn't take very long for word to get around.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Oswego was definitely clicking vs Brockport by looking at those highlights

On offense they were very impressive as usual, Reagan really made some great saves to keep Brockport in it for a while. On defense Oswego was average at best and Jones had to make some pretty good stops to keep Brockport off the board. If the Eagles had any real scoring talent the game would have been a track meet rather than a blowout.

One of the major positives to the game for me was everything Oswego looked like they were getting run around and going to give up a goal they went down to the other end and scored one. They never really let Brockport feel like they had a chance to win, which is important when playing so called lesser team.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

How else would any coach know a player was interested in transfering???

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

D1 coach's also will contact D3 coaches about players they have that may be looking to transfer or the player could be from that area and know of the program and others (ie Owen Kelly knew about Oswego cause he was from Plattsburgh) so that player can make the contact first.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Maybe my standards are too high but I thought last nights game was very poorly played by both teams. It wasn't the kind of battle I was expecting from the two teams picked to finish first and second in the SUNYAC. Everyone seemed to be bogged down all night and there wasn't a whole lot of crisp play on either end.

Oswego's first goal came on a bomb from Whitelaw after an awful Genny turnover. Genny's first goal was also an awful turnover. On Oswego's third goal Genny never picked up Mather coming out of the box and Boots hit him with a nice pass. Goalies were decent on both sides and both sides had some guys that played well but they also had some that were so-so and some that were just awful. I thought the Freshman Gertsakis was Oswego's best defenseman all night long making some real solid plays on both ends.

For tonight I would like to see Eli Kim-Swallow and Nick Rivait in the lineup and Jones in goal and a little more effort by the home team would be nice as well. They kind of got away with another lackluster performance last night and I don't want that to become a pattern like it did last season.
gertsakis got smoked on the first goal I believe was totally out of position, you can see it on the reply....not a big deal for a frshmn, he was impressive with the puck, moved it well and joined the play a couple of times, needs help in the defensive zone coverage, but that will come with time and when he gets used to the speed of this game.....didnt see Saturday's game how was Rivat, and Jones??

Jones played well, he had good movement, saw the puck well and on those rare occassions Brockport got a good scoring opportunity he was there. Unfortunate his shutout was blown in the last 2 minutes but it was a good play by the Brockport player who got position on the Oswego player.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Not sure how we would do it but would love to see more of the new recruits, I guess they will just have to wait their turn.....I think all have played besides Kim-Swallow??

In all honesty no one on the ice did a particularly good job on that first goal by Genny. It was an awful turnover by Brown and Gertsakis and Carr left Vit the entire middle of the ice.

Rivait was unimpressive in the Brockport game. He made some plays and did get better as the game went but he made some real bad plays in the first half of the game. Jones was good but his rebound control left a bit to be desired. As long as the defense plays like it's capable it doesn't matter which goalie they have in they will be fine.

Ok well I am sure Rivait needs some time to get up to speed, it is harder to adjust to the speed on defense, as 1 mistake and your toast, where as a forward makes a mistake and one hardly notices...... good to hear Jones did well....I guess it will be Beck and Smrke rehabing together:(....ps wasnt bashing Gerk, freshman dman its GONNA happen,I think he just got caught flatfooted, I did like the way he handled the puck and joined the play, looks to be fleet-a-foot:cool:

How has Josepher been lately?

I haven't really been able to follow this thread much lately and excuse me if it's been talked about already.

I noticed he's racking up the points now. 1 goal and 7 assists and 8 points for a d-man in 6 games is pretty good. But, how has his defense and skating been for people who have seen the Lakers play more than just on one webcast like myself.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Zach has brought the Div 1 mentality to have any of his teamates back. He is a strong kid and will go far with the laker's.
I to would like to see Eli Kim Swallow in the line up soon

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Zach gets the play started from his own end better than anyone Oswego has had in a few years. He has been solid at both ends of the ice and has had no trouble developing chemistry with the rest of the team. With McConney improving so much combined with Josepher's smooth transition this defense could be real good if VanBoxmeer and Carr get back to the level they are capable of.

Nice. Oswego hasn't had a guy like that since maybe Joe Carrabs? He was a stud in the early part of this decade.

Who needs a stud when you can have a Spartan?;):D Josepher was rusty-looking out of the gate in Elmira (but then again who wasn't in the opening minutes?), but he's polishing up nicely. Plenty of hitting and good touch with the puck - a decent pickup of experience for the defense, in spite of its flaws yet. Those passes towards the middle in traffic is enough to make hair stand on end.

I'd like to think Jones's rebounding against Brockport was more about show and a lack of concern, given the team they were playing. Is it common for a goaltender to smack so many pucks out of midair with his hockey stick?

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Oh no we have been awarded the unwanted #1 ranking in the USCHO poll. I would rather that they are #1 at the end of the season.

Yep they do it all the time in practice. Quickest way to get a rebound away from the net before the other team hits it out of the air into the net.
