Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

we already have 3 good goalies, though we will lose one next year. Their goalie isn't the greatest... they could use a goalie.

He wasn't talking about a goalie, if you go the the Plattsburgh Thread there is a D-Man that was committed to play for Maine but due to some issues decided not to. He said he was looking at Oswego and Plattsburgh St. for NCAA and has interest from Major Junior Teams.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves, it's only
been 2 games so far and Hare still needs to prove himself. Niagra may have been D1 but it wasn't really the top of the D1 prgrams.

You're certainly right about that. Hare with only 3 career starts, one of which was that 5-1 laugher at pathfinder. But the thing with hare was, it wasnt like he wasnt playing at niagara, the kid was getting about 33 percent of the minutes. He's certainly looked good in that opening weekend after the two elmira games, and we'll see how that trend can hold up this weekend. Not only has he looked good, but you gotta also admit your goaltending situation in general is better than it was in november/december last year before hare arrived. The Utica game up there was almost a nightmare when Dan Jones dislocated his shoulder, the forward dressed in goalie pads on the bench almost got to play.

On another interesting note with Andrew Hare, take a look at the shoes Hare was trying to fill with the purple eagles. the year before he arrived at niagara, the eagles had a certain star netminder named Juliano Paligero, who ended up being nominated for the Hobey Baker. What makes this weekend just that much more intriguing is that Paligero will be behind the bench with Gary Heenan for UC. It's amazing how some of this stuff is all connected....

Hey thats some good stuff, I wonder if this Paligero guy will be heckling Hare :D, and/or giving away a few of his trouble spots?? either way this will be a close 1

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

did not get to listen to the game, but viewed the boxscore,5 ppg's and only 1 even up goal, any reason why??Not good that will not happen tonight vs Utica as I doubt we will score 5 on the PP...Hare shutout, any idea how he played besides the shutout part, was he busy at all??? did also see that we ONLY had 4 pens, very nice thats where we need to be...

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

man i was at the game last night and oswegos powerplay was unreal. They certainly looked like a division one powerplay last night.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

They had only one even strength goal because there was absolutely no room to do anything five on five because Cortland got a stick on a ton of shots due to their tiny ice surface. They packed everyone in down low and Oswego's d-men had a tough time getting it through the crowd in front. When they had room they dominated and completely controlled the game, especially in the second.

Hare made a couple of decent saves, one during a late PK to preserve the shutout was his best. He really controlled the defensive zone all night and limited the number of shots with his rebound control.

The power play was excellent all game long and could have had a couple of more goals if not for some nice saves by Kuhlman. It took a while to get the first goal but once they did it was all over.

Highlight of the night was a group of little Cortland fans heckling the scratched Oswego players after it was already 5-0. Not sure why they waited so long but it was funny stuff none the less.

Beckwith says he will see a doctor on Monday about his knee and he feels like he should be back soon.

A few of us had commented about the rink looking smaller at Cortland yesterday - turns out it is by a bit. The Red Dragons play some solid defense, but the Lakers' conditioning and consistent attack wore them out eventually. Cort took themselves out with all those penalties, and Oswego rang in the New Year in kind.

I missed the hecklers going at the players - probably had nothing real substantial to say, breaking for the exits and an early session at the bars. They did seem to appreciate one of our players though - Boots received many vocal ovations, which was well earned by his 2 goals and his gymnastics display by leaping over Domenico while advancing up ice(most impressive:cool:).

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

They weren't breaking for the bars they were little kids, elementary school kids. It was funny because they came right up to them and started booing and heckling them. When the Oswego players laughed they go, come on we're not afraid of you. When some of the players started to head downstairs as the game wound down the kids said yeah that's right with their chests puffed out. It really was quite hilarious.

Highlights from Cortland:

I'm taking the night off due to loss of voice tonight

Wow, no offense to Cortland, but they look awful from that video.

The Cortland ice is smaller, and it's terrible to play on. Lots of ruts, pretty soft, and isn't maintained very well.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I think it goes without saying that this team still has a lot to work on. One main problem is the lack of discipline. You cannot take the amount of penalties that they continue to make. I counted two times the Lakers were on the wrong end of a 5x3. You will not win when that is happening and you commit nearly 10 penalties. Yes officiating in this game was very poor, and uneven at times, but I think as a whole it was fairly called by the officials. They did miss about 3 potential boarding calls at the end of the 3rd. Boots and Whitelaw got absolutely demolished in the boards. Mather was half into the UC bench also after a nasty hit halfway through the 3rd.

The worst call of the night was the trip on Moodie that set up a UC goal. He whiffed on a shot attempt and his stick caught the skate of the UC player and that kid should get an Academy Award. I was right there when that happened and had a VERY good angle.

It didn't seem like the boys had the same intensity as the Elmira games and looked lost out there at times. Boots is not very aggressive and waits for the puck to come to him. Even with his two goals last night, I really think he needs to step it up. Passing was definitely off today and there dump in's into the offensive zone were brutal at times on the PP. Seemed like the puck would scoot out the zone too often and then we would have to set up again. One other thing I noticed was that some of the guys who shall go unamed spent more time complaining to the officials about non-calls then worrying about looking up the ice or skating. That really irritates me to no end. Oh well, I'm sure I will post more thoughts and I know that it is early, but this is tough loss no matter how you look at it.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

thnks for the review, it did seem from LISTENING to the game that the lakers were getting out worked and out hit, that said I thought gosek would go with a big guy like singleton in the line-up, but what do I know...the penalties have been talked about for yrs it seems like, we take to many and it messes the flow of the game for the lakers, 2 5 x3 is no good no matter how ya look at it...anybody know more about the goal or NO goal that utica got???....reffing was suspect at best it seemed as/the announcers...like I said these things are going to happen you have to get over them...NOT a big deal , shows the team how it is to lose...Ok Genny coming into our barn....ps once again.rankings shmanking as long as I'm rich...they mean squat now...

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I thought the same too on Singleton that this would be a game he would get into. We always know that Utica plays extremely physical and having big bodies out there like Matt could only help. But, Utica seemed to be running circles around our guys for most of the game. I thought we had great team speed, but maybe I was wrong for thinking that? Utica definitely outworked and outhustled most of our team. As for the "non-goal", I was on the opposite end of the ice so didn't have a good look at it, but after the 2nd I was done in the bowels of the Aud and saw Eddie in a really animated conversation as he was coming off the ice with the ref's.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I actually was able to make the game Saturday and yes Oswego did look somewhat sloppy on Defense and were somewhat out hit, but not to beat a dead-horse but some of the calls in the game were very iffy. The tripping call in the second especially, I had a great angle as well and when he whiffed the shot his stick accidentally came down and the UC guy just got caught up in the stick. I understand that the refs probably had a bad angle but one was standing right next to them and still called it.

One other call got my attention, and I think coach Gosek was upset too, towards the end of the second when Oswego started to pick up a little momentum and was peppering the goalie pretty well, it looked like one of the Utica guys sent the puck in to the crowd intentionally, which killed the Oswego momentum, It should have been a penalty and the Lakers would have had the power play with the momentum ending the period. Did anyone else who saw it think that?

All in all it was a rough night for the Lakers but they will be back home for some big games and they just need to concentrate on Genny and Brockport, it wasn't a conference loss so not to much damage done. They should be right there in the end like always and will get a shot at redemption when UC comes to the Campus Center.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I assume you mean Utica, and sadly no, we don't. We were already short staffed thanks to my laryngitis, so we didn't have someone to come shoot video. http://www.wktv.com/ has a clip with Utica's last 2 goals. (and you still can't tell if Hertz's went in, lol)
