Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Not seeing Beckwith on the bench to start the second Im not sure he was pulled by choice. Beckwith kept that game from being 3 or 4 to 0 eary in that first.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I think that would be the correct assumption, if Beckwith was pulled to jumpstart the team then he would be on the bench. I think it is something more then a change of pace correction.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

First home game in the books with a W. Not real all that impressed overall. There were several bright spots. The Whitelaw line is going to be the best line. Moody has vastly improved since last year and Whitelaw is just a sparkplug. To me, those two with Rodriguez is going to do great things. Josepher played a solid game. The PK was solid all night. Hare was steady. He looked like he tweeked something about 5 mins before Elmira scored their second goal. The Lakers have nice lines to keep throwing out there. On the bad is there are still to many trips to the box. It looked like the strips haven't done a game since last year for it was terribly called. They called alot of penalties which took any flow from the game. Tough decission for Coach to keep the hot goalie Hare or return to Beckwith when and if he returns. Gotta feel bad for Beckwith for every year he has had something bad happen to him.
I guess all games at a SUNY rink will have 4 strips on the ice. I read here that only in conference games would have 4 strips present, oh well.
I don't know what to make of Elmira. I can only remember them looking this bad was a couple of years ago when they were at the CC and got waxed only to return home and beat Oswego 2-1 I think.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Elmira looked totally unprepared for this weekends games which is completely out of character for that program. Oswego did not play like a team that should have won 6-2 but what is important to me is they capitalized on their chances a lot better than they did last season. McDonald was terrible in net and did not look one bit like an All-American from last season. The goals Oswego got on him were decent but his rebound control was awful. Ryan deMelo looked decent after he came and there was nothing he could do on either goal on him. Vaillancourt, Sanders and Acorn looked decent for Elmira but everyone is was just logging minutes and heading to the bench.

For Oswego, McConney looked like a completely different player than in his first two seasons as a Laker. He scored two goals and in my opinion was the best player on the ice tonight. Hare was excellent, making some real good saves when Elmira had some chances and he had no chance on either goal. Moodies goal was a beauty and the Rodrigues, Whitelaw, Moodie will be the go to line I think but Mather, Boots and Muise will be dangerous if they can get rolling which I think they will. I predicted Leimbrock to have a break out year last year and he was not good at all but so far he is showing signs of being a solid offensive force.

The officiating was meh but I have come to expect nothing different so it really doesn't come as a shock. Oswego took a few dumb penalties but a couple of the later game calls were weak.

All in all it was an early season game and both teams had some moments of brilliance and some mistakes but Elmira was a lot more rusty than Oswego.

Highlights from Friday... Saturday on the way

Excellent work guys.

Last two goals were prime examples of Elmira beig outworked. Last goal especially where two Elmira players let an Oswego player skate right by them to free the oz player up for the easy tap in goal.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Not much to say that the others havnt said yet, not much flow to the games due to a ton of penalties, which Oz will have to cut down on if they want to go to the big dance!!!! what I noticed sat night, good,Hare very well positioned at all times, paul beware, whitelaw rod and moodie looked like mid season form, moddies goal was very nice coupled with the one I just watched on the video from fri he has great hands, and I dont mean like George Costanza had on Seinfeld..2 goals by Mcconnehy, nice throw the puck at the net, penalty kill was good, but the men have to keep their heads on a swivel at all times even up as well..all around hustle was great..bad,penalties nuff said, faceoffs, noticed even if we won seemed out of wack, must win more,a couple of cross ice passes in our d zone got intercepted,a good Platty team will hurt you with that...ugly my wife in the morning:D...reffing, but that is what it is and we have to deal with it...next of the red dragons and the pioneers in a hostile joint...lets not look past cortland its their first game and will be jacked up...

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Did you guys not get the 3 & 4 OSU goals? I will see how mine turned out and post them. I also got a good look at that cheap hit from behind on (28?) .

I have the hit on McConney, but the rest of the 2nd period after that has some error so I can't post them... if you wanna put up the 3rd and 4th Oz goals, go ahead.

I'll see what I can do. Then you can add the voice over. It was great listening, just stunk it was a 20 lag from the live thanks to the good ole inter net lag. I was on the other side so it will be a different angle.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Will you guys be sending a crew to Utica on saturday?

Our radio crew is at every game, home and away.

We plan on having video as well, but it won't be live if that's what you're asking - just highlights following each game.

Wasn't really, just needed a post to quote on that, and quoted the video...

we're gonna have a packed booth for that one then, i'll be on the PBP for Utica that night.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

What more can be said than this may be Hare's net to defend now, if he keeps the glove hand hot next weekend? Those goals at the CC by Elmira were close quarters and quite gritty, and he seemed pretty impressive otherwise. The crowd on hand was very appreciative too - lots of new fans to mold, and they seemed pretty vocal too. Will see if that holds true after the parents have gone home and as the GennyBrock series approaches. I'll say it again though...we need MORE chants.

Utica will be a fantastic measuring stick, with a pitfall in Cortland the night prior. Hearing from the knowledgeable fans in Elmira, the Eagles have a strong do-or-die club this year, and this likely was just "another" slow start - I'm banking on more from them as the season goes on. For the Lakers and their junior core though, way to go on shaking the rusty start and firing it up.

Psst - bakdraft...it says Ohio State for Boots, man - trust me. But its all according to plan - our road tripping crew is already taking to calling Josepher "Spartan". Think of all the 300 references...:D

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I see that Hare picked up SUNYAC goaltender of the week award. Nice get for him, even though there were only a handful of SUNYAC teams in action over the weekend. I still haven't seen or heard anything on Beckwith. You have to think that if he didn't even come out of the locker room after the 1st period Friday, then not being on the bench on Saturday that he was either hurt or sick.

Who's got tha scoop?

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

By the way, not to beat a dead horse, but I can't really add anything about the weekend that anyone else didn't already say. Outside of the penalties, they played very well Saturday. They pretty much outgunned Elmira in just about every way. I was VERY impressed with their PK. Their defense seems to be improved over last season. And I was glad to see Hare have a couple of good games. He showed some talent out there this weekend.

That said, you can have a good PK...but you won't win a whole lot of games committing 10 penalties. I think Eddie will be working on that in practice this week.
